Possibly, I’d say more so with Miles, I thinkTC has a fair way to go, but wouldn’t be shocked if he went somewhere else and improved, in fact some charlton fans won’t want read it, but maybe for the benefit of his own career moving on may be to his advantage.Scoham said:
If we go down I won’t be surprised to see players such as TC and Miles stay in the Championship and improve playing in better sides.Sword65pf said:
I’ve been saying all season, it would be a more fair judgement of our strikers if we were creating chances and they were missing shitloads, but it doesn’t happen. Wonder how they would do if playing in the Coventry side?FirenzeAddick said:Its such a sweeping generalisation though to suggest that League One strikers/attackers can't make the step up now. TC moving on regardless of our league I think is a real possibility in the summer. Someone will back themselves to play him as a proper winger and coach the bad habits out of his game.
Leaburn will depend on how he finishes the season , if he's in the side and playing like he has done recently and adding a few goals I think the phone will be ringing. Another reason why I think keeping Mbick is imperitve in the long term because there's the replacement already in the building.11 -
Especially if one is Chambers who is not match fit & could break down at any moment.Sword65pf said:
We can sign more on loan though can’t we?, it just means all of them can’t be in the match day squad, I know defeats the object a bit, but if it’s options needed and not too expensive, would that be considered?.Scoham said:On further signings, we now have 4 loans so it’s likely we’d only see 1 more loan, if any. So beyond that signings would probably be permanent.1 -

The simple fact is that the strikers cant score without service. They have none bar the ball being lumped up the field.Braziliance said:
Not one of our attackers has adjusted well to this league. Can argue all day about playstyles and systems, but the fact of the matter is, our forwards just don't score.TheHerminator said:
Which attackers haven’t adjusted well barring our own Olafe example? Genuinely keen to know.Braziliance said:
No, not anymore.NabySarr said:
So you think this is a good signing then?Braziliance said:You know it's desperate times when Nathan Jones has looked to me for advice on which players to sign

Attackers don't adjust well from league 1 and 2 at all anymore to this level. I severely underestimated this league, not as much as our recruitment team though.
I'd be more optimistic if he was firing for Stockport and starting, but a club willing to loan out a player in a promotion push doesn't fill me with much confidence.
He looks a talented player, but I don't think he will be ready for this level. Happy to be wrong. Our strikers have struggled with a system that doesn’t work. I’m not sure that means they aren’t good enough to play at this level with the exception of Olafe
Take a look at Wrexham & Birmingham, May gone immediately, Stansfield was already Championship calibre, none of Wrexhams League 1 forwards are doing the same at this level, they had to invest.
It is very unlikely now a player can have the same impact in the league above, the levels keep getting wider and wider, just how it is.19 -
Thomas Sandgaard has been a bit too creative with his paperwork.fenaddick said:
I think the reason annoyed me last night was we've had weeks of people saying "I don't care who it is, get in anyone can play LWB". Then it was "Why can't the LWB play the full 90 minutes and why are they a youngster, we should have got someone in from L1". Then this week it was "We have no pace or creativity in the side" so we sign someone with pace who has TS like inconsistent creativity and that isn't right.Braziliance said:
Not targeted at you specifically here Fen mate, as plenty of people do this ridiculous style of post, and it won't be the last time I see it, but it is by far and away the most irritating and irrelevant type of post on here.fenaddick said:Everyone: “Make some signings, any signings”
Everyone 3 hours later: “No not those ones”
It is perfectly rational for fans to want signings in, and when the signings don't spark much excitement, share their views on that. It is a discussion forum after all.
To me it's glaringly obvious what this window is all about, and I am not expecting any real exciting signings. If I was a betting man, they'll try and plaster the squad as best they can, with as little they can, and if we manage to defy the odds and stay up, I reckon they'll try and move us on. It's always been about sustainability and surviving within our means, the lack of ambition shows it, all that's been done so far is the very bare minimum for a Championship side.
The fact Jim Rodwell is still employed by the club is a mystery to me as well, gives me hope I can talk my way into a cushty, highly paid job one day just by talking bollocks.
I get that people want Championship experience (where their legs haven't gone already) but we never had the budget for that really. Dykes and Clarke do fit that bill and look good, if we could get a midfielder with decent Championship minutes under his belt that would be great too. I guess I'm just saying I think people's expectations are too high and that is clouding their judgement.
I agree about Rodwell and I find it concerning how involved he seems to be, I'm hoping it's bravado and he purely negotiates3 -
Glad that Cawley has rubbished the Jones moving away link.
Hope he doesnt rubbish that we are trying to move Gillesphey on!4 -

I guess it wasn't binding.1 -
I think reactions to signings are in general a bit silly either way to be honest. Everyone on here is clamouring for signings. Some people want big money signings with names they know and get upset when they don't get that, some don't like players coming up from lower divisions. Some put a little bit too much faith in a name they recognise or someone they saw do well against Charlton previously. In the end though, it's all about how they do in a Charlton shirt. In Fevrier we've signed someone who at least fits what we did successfully last season and at the start of this season. If he wasn't fitting in somewhere else even down a division it doesn't necessarily matter. Small couldn't get a game for St Mirren but then look at him now. Blackpool fans were devastated to lose Apter and didn't care about losing Carey. Only one of them has shown themselves to be a Championship player. Stockport fans love Tanto but Luton fans told us Bell was finished. It seems like 9 times out of 10 our big money, biggest name signings are the ones who disappoint and the lesser known often free players are the ones who make the difference. Fevrier might be a Roussillon or he might be a Small or CBT. Carey, Jones, Bell, Edwards, Ramsay, all free or low fee signings from clubs below us but they're our core. I'll wait to become whelmed or underwhelmed after the new signings have played a few games23

It may already have been said in the 191 pages of this discussion so apologies if it has but I feel what we are really missing more than anything is an enforcer in central midfield. A Kinsella, Viera, Keane, Ince sort of player who wins the midfield battles holds it together and gets everyone going.7

Portsmouth being linked with Alese from Sunderland. Be a big frustration if they manage to bring in good LCB in Alese along with Ebou Adams midfield. Both should be players we were looking at bringing in for key positions
Maybe we will address both of those areas in the next few days but I’d be surprised if we bring in better players than those 211 -

If we go down I think TC, Leaburn and L. Jones are the only players in our squad not on loan/short term deals who would get championship moves in the summer.Scoham said:

Doubt it will happen premiership players don't join relegation scrapping teams with small budgets on loan I think : ))NabySarr said:Portsmouth being linked with Alese from Sunderland. How have Portsmouth got a better pull than Charlton? It can only be down to money, and I doubt they have that over us either.Steven81 said:

I suppose that a small crumb of comfort would be that Blackburn, West Brom and Norwich don't appear to have been overly active so far so even if Pompey do make a few good signings we're not in a straight us vs them shoot out for survival.NabySarr said:Portsmouth being linked with Alese from Sunderland. It certainly will be interesting to see if our more "shotgun" numbers approach works better over their chosen few, I guess.

Would be surprised if Blackburn did much. It's enough for the Venkys to keep the lights on there , they won't go and invest heavily in the squad.thenewbie said:

The only thing with someone like Alese is Sunderland will want guarantees on minutes , realistically whoever we bring in is going to be cover for Bell . He probably goes and starts for Pompey over Conor Oglvie.0
