Winter-January 2026 Transfer Window Rumours ...

The window is not shut yet… let’s see where the squad is at when it is.
Couple of potential dominoes to keep an eye on:
- Micah Mbick. If he does go, how much of the money do we get up front? Can we reinvest this immediately?- Loans v Permanents. You can only have five loans in a match day squad. So far we have: Chambers, Clarke and Fevrier, with Coady imminent. I can’t imagine us wanting to go above five.Cawley suggests we will be busy until the deadline.2 -
So far hasn’t happened.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Think that’s generalising a bit , people want signings as Nathan says that are categorically better than we have, so far that hasn’t happened.fenaddick said:Everyone: “Make some signings, any signings”
Everyone 3 hours later: “No not those ones”Dykes is an upgrade on Olaofe.Fevrier for Apter - we haven't seen Fevrier yet so we can't judge.Clarke for Bree - after a good start Bree wasn't that good for us and a lot were calling for him to be sent back. We haven't seen enough of Clarke to judge.Chambers for Edwards - he's played 45 minutes, looked ok and is definitely a better option than a guy who is out injured for the rest of the season.fenaddick said:Everyone: “Make some signings, any signings”

I think the reason annoyed me last night was we've had weeks of people saying "I don't care who it is, get in anyone can play LWB". Then it was "Why can't the LWB play the full 90 minutes and why are they a youngster, we should have got someone in from L1". Then this week it was "We have no pace or creativity in the side" so we sign someone with pace who has TS like inconsistent creativity and that isn't right.Braziliance said:
Not targeted at you specifically here Fen mate, as plenty of people do this ridiculous style of post, and it won't be the last time I see it, but it is by far and away the most irritating and irrelevant type of post on here.fenaddick said:Everyone: “Make some signings, any signings”

It is perfectly rational for fans to want signings in, and when the signings don't spark much excitement, share their views on that. It is a discussion forum after all.
To me it's glaringly obvious what this window is all about, and I am not expecting any real exciting signings. If I was a betting man, they'll try and plaster the squad as best they can, with as little they can, and if we manage to defy the odds and stay up, I reckon they'll try and move us on. It's always been about sustainability and surviving within our means, the lack of ambition shows it, all that's been done so far is the very bare minimum for a Championship side.
The fact Jim Rodwell is still employed by the club is a mystery to me as well, gives me hope I can talk my way into a cushty, highly paid job one day just by talking bollocks.
I get that people want Championship experience (where their legs haven't gone already) but we never had the budget for that really. Dykes and Clarke do fit that bill and look good, if we could get a midfielder with decent Championship minutes under his belt that would be great too. I guess I'm just saying I think people's expectations are too high and that is clouding their judgement.
I agree about Rodwell and I find it concerning how involved he seems to be, I'm hoping it's bravado and he purely negotiates7 -
Being able to attack and defend both wings will create more chancesMarcusH26 said:I guess ultimately my biggest concern is the complete lack of creativity we've got. I know it's a common comment on here about Nathan doesn't do flair players or out and out creators but if I was in Kelman or Goddens shoes I'd be worried about where the chance creation is going to come from.
I'd rather find someone that can pick a pass and move us forward than someone that's got all the analytics stats for distance covered but no real quality on the ball.3 -
In Dykes and Clarke we DID get Championship experience though. Two players signed from Championship clubs, who've been fit all season, so able to quickly play full 90s.fenaddick said:

Left wing back is THE crisis position. This isn't a position where we were looking to sign a rotation/backup player, we need someone to come in and play the rest of the season, starting every game ideally. Therefore it's perfectly reasonable to expect someone more experienced and senior than Chambers.2 -

Should have just kept Small and offered him part of the money spent on Apter as a signing on fee8

Gillesphey and Chambers together are not the answer to our defensive problems, they will make it worse. This must be fixed, and unless the club are very confident about Bell we need another left sided defender.killerandflash said:

Yes, it has been completely frustrating football for the last 4 months, but everyone on here is acting like we are rock bottom of the table and guaranteed to go down.We need to change up something to get 6 wins out of of the 18 games and then reconvene in the summer.
We are dropping like a stone points wise, we are terrible to watch at football, have a team full of bang average league 1 quality players, and we don't spend the kind of money that attracts quality championship players.
Based on our fixtures list, our form and results recently, and looking at our transfer window so far, I would say it's likely we drop into the relegation zone within the next 3 games, unless our relegation rivals also happen to keep being just as poor.
If you didn't think staying up is a massive achievement before a ball was kicked, then you are a bit disillusioned about Charlton as a football club currently. We are bad, sorry.
Hopefully some quality signings today, and not a goalkeeper from non-league & a bit part player in the league below. Some real quality 👍🏻1 -

The surprise for me was that we didn’t try and get Deji Elerwere off Bromley rather than Coady.
Hes now at Lincoln and shouldn’t have been let go in the first place.
they obviously think he can play league 1 and above.1 -

No idea if this Kenyan guy we're linked to is true but I hope it is. Mobility in the back 3 is badly needed and will add a bit of added mystery to our dealings so far0

I think Fevrier will definitely play mostly on the right. It’s definitely his best side and I can’t believe we’d sign him to play on the left a level up. Hopefully we are still in the market for a left sided defenderScoham said:RWB Ramsay Clarke
RCB Burke Kenyan CB?
CCB Jones Coady
LCB Bell Gillesphey
LWB Chambers Fevrier (Edwards out for the season)
Is this what we’re going for? Depth in every position, no more Ramsay and Bell being CBs as well as WB cover.
It would mean a more attacking left hand side, which doesn’t necessarily work well for TC if he goes back to the hybrid winger/striker role, as he’s better on the left side.
I hope we end up with Fevrier starting games and the having him and TC on either flank. And then in tougher games Clarke or Ramsay probably start at wing back0 -

Attackers don't adjust well from league 1 and 2 at all anymore to this level. I severely underestimated this league, not as much as our recruitment team though.
I'd be more optimistic if he was firing for Stockport and starting, but a club willing to loan out a player in a promotion push doesn't fill me with much confidence.
He looks a talented player, but I don't think he will be ready for this level. Happy to be wrong.2 -

It’s all made to sound so easy isn’t it? Sign a left wing back. Sign a striker. Sign a creative midfielder. Oh and they must be proven championship quality and match fit and ready to play 90 minutes this Saturday and not prone to injury and available at a price we can afford and they must also decide to come to us rather than any other club in England or across Europe that’s trying to sign them. Fantasy football is fun.18

Totally understand your reservations but hoping he’s a bit like Makama at Norwich, he’d never hit double figures in L1 but is already there in the Championship. It is possible and sometimes it’s the surprising playersBraziliance said:

Just looking at the championship top 10 goal scorers this season. Thomas-Asante jumped from league 2, and Makama and Burrell jumped from league 1 as recently as this summer. Just because we’ve not done it well doesn’t mean it can’t be done well. Our top goal scorer was also signed from league 1 this summerBraziliance said:

Kelman and Leaburn might do it with better service, they’ve shown the ability at times, but we’re so poor in possession it’s no surprise those three players have scored more.NabySarr said:

no I’m the secret third option, realistic about who we can attract, how we have to spread our budget and hoping the signings we make this window can make us better than a sum of our parts. The third choice goal keeper is an irrelevance, they are highly unlikely to make it on the pitchAthletico Charlton said:
