Yes, he may win a few more headers than ML, but his goal return over the last couple of seasons has been pretty poor in the Championship (46 games, 3 goals, 0 assists), I know probably most off the bench.
Maybe on loan and ML could learn a bit from him until the end of the season, but I'd probably prefer to go for a younger target man on loan from a PL club.
The player I would have loved to sign in the summer, is our ex player Michael Smith, who instead signed for Preston. 34 now, and not a prolific scorer, but he's very good at his job.It’s similar in a way to goalkeepers and centre backs where experience is more important. I don’t think so either. He puts out his highlight reels after every good game for a reason. He wants scouts from big teams to notice him (and there’s nothing wrong with that). Hopefully we keep him past this window and cash in during the summer when there’s more interest from a wider range of teams. I would be delighted if he did, but I think he has ambitions of a higher level, with his age and abilities, I suspect he will wait until the summer, where he won't be shy of options, and his agent will know that as well.
We would need to stay up to keep him I imagine, and even then, other clubs will line up with a bigger offer.
If the club manage to get him to extend in January then fair bloody play, I just can't see it.0 -
Kanu has the same number of non-penalty goals as Cheek does in league 2, and has played less games. Yup I don’t think we would have to worry about Lloyd unless we were to get relegated if we stay in the championship he stays I think he genuinely loves the club and the stability after having a shaky career. As good as he is there’s a lot of young cb talent in the league rn that is more enticing to clubs because of their ceiling and value. If he ever ended up a free agent I think that would be a different story.Braziliance said:

I can't see us selling unless the offer is insane.

It will take a sizeable wage increase, which won't match with our squad wages, and even then that's if we stay up. Plenty of other Champ teams can offer him a great salary without batting an eye.
Paddy is spot on, and it's the exact approach we should have had with Small, you won't sign better for the wages it would cost, so get stuck in.
I don't think we will sell him this January, as I can't see Jones having it, but I think the summer could be an issue.

If Dykes happens then NJ has his head above the parapet. Few strikers score goals because he plays 3-5-2 with no wing backs who can cross, and he is potentially bringing in a non-goalscoring forward.
Why did he buy Apter, a winger if he wanted 3-5-2? And TC? Bell is the only decent left footed defender so it should be four at the back. But we go with square pegs in round holes, and wonder why we lose.6 -
If anyone knows a target man forward who is experienced within our transfer/wage budget would work in a Nathan Jones system and is a proven goalscorer I’d love to hear but unfortunately never ticking all the boxes Dykes covers pretty much everything except a proven goalscorer and with him playing that should help others score more than they currently have0

Dykes plays a certain role and I see one of his major one’s for us (if he signed) as being unlocking Kelman.
As one of 3 or 4 signings….. wouldn’t be a bad start.
Combine with a centre back, left wing back, and midfielder? Not bad.2 -
