Dykes is a donkey. He would be better off on Blackpool beach.7

Dykes ? .. non no no non no, we need more a Sam Smith type but after his performance this week, he's staying in North Wales
The ancient Michael Cheek will do for me, he is near the end (surely) of his career and would bust a gut for us in the Championship, a 'height' which I doubt he ever thought he'd achieve
Pay whatever Bromley want
Sell on fee possibility' ?, potentially, his goals could be worth many times any 'residual value'10 -
Exactly, no point signing a PL loan target man, playing against senior defenders is totally different to playing against U21s, Leaburn would be better than them.killerandflash said:
Do decent young target men actually exist (leaving aside freaks like the young Haaland)? Like the main centre back, you need strength and nous, and few young players have that. Bullying experienced Championship centre backs with your strength, winning free kicks with your cuteness, bringing other players into the game, is a specialist skill.dmccart32 said:
And remember, we did see that very "friendly" embrace between NJ and Dykes a couple of weeks back at St Andrews.fenaddick said:Dykes rumour in here, has been mentioned a few times on this thread but first time an actual journalist (although no idea how reliable) has mentioned it

Yes, he may win a few more headers than ML, but his goal return over the last couple of seasons has been pretty poor in the Championship (46 games, 3 goals, 0 assists), I know probably most off the bench.
Maybe on loan and ML could learn a bit from him until the end of the season, but I'd probably prefer to go for a younger target man on loan from a PL club.
The player I would have loved to sign in the summer, is our ex player Michael Smith, who instead signed for Preston. 34 now, and not a prolific scorer, but he's very good at his job. It’s similar in a way to goalkeepers and centre backs where experience is more important. Target men often develop later and peak towards 28-31, and that’s why Leaburn is so highly rated by many because he’s got years and years to develop into a very good one3 -
I don’t think so either. He puts out his highlight reels after every good game for a reason. He wants scouts from big teams to notice him (and there’s nothing wrong with that). Hopefully we keep him past this window and cash in during the summer when there’s more interest from a wider range of teams. I would be sad to lose him but he’s been a great servant for the club so all the best to him if he wants to test himself at a higher level.Braziliance said:I don't think Ramsay will extend his contract.
I would be delighted if he did, but I think he has ambitions of a higher level, with his age and abilities, I suspect he will wait until the summer, where he won't be shy of options, and his agent will know that as well.
We would need to stay up to keep him I imagine, and even then, other clubs will line up with a bigger offer.
If the club manage to get him to extend in January then fair bloody play, I just can't see it.0 -
Kanu has the same number of non-penalty goals as Cheek does in league 2, and has played less games. Might as well recall Kanu if you are shopping in league 2 for a striker (which we absolutely won’t be)Lincsaddick said:Dykes ? .. non no no non no, we need more a Sam Smith type but after his performance this week, he's staying in North Wales

Yup I don’t think we would have to worry about Lloyd unless we were to get relegated if we stay in the championship he stays I think he genuinely loves the club and the stability after having a shaky career. As good as he is there’s a lot of young cb talent in the league rn that is more enticing to clubs because of their ceiling and value. If he ever ended up a free agent I think that would be a different story.Braziliance said:
With respect to Lloyd Jones though, as he is my favourite and imo our most important player, his value isn't the same as Ramsay.fenaddick said:
They should be trying. And if the players back themselves then the club can let them have a release clause in the contract that activates on relegation, I assume Jones had a similar one for if we didn't go up at the end of last season. Indeed I doubt the club are even trying at the moment.
Jones wouldn't and won't get the kind of offers Kayne will cause of his age and ceiling.
Ramsay will be one of the hottest free agents in the summer in this league, I genuinely reckon every team in the league will want him, even as a back up option.
In my mind I have accepted he has already gone, similar to Thierry.0 -
And as hold up striker who scores goals, Mbick is better than both.NabySarr said:

Yeah I’ve seen enough. Charlie Kelman and Lyndon Dykes both follow each other on Instagram 😎5

Wouldn't be impressed with Dykes, but lets not start pretending / worrying that its a done dealPlenty of time for Cawley to arrive at the back post yet4

Unproven and two levels up, that’s a lot of trust.Gisappointed said:

Might have to be the front post, if Bree is the one deliveringForeverAddickted said:Wouldn't be impressed with Dykes, but lets not start pretending / worrying that its a done dealPlenty of time for Cawley to arrive at the back post yet

Cawley at the back post may score more than Dykes5

Charlton into dykes?
Hmmmm.2 -
How many games would Kelman and Dykes have played together for QPR? If we were putting 2and2 together along with the little chat after the Brum game, it’s unfortunately more than likely got legs.0

Not trying to be negative, but from what I have gathered, it is very unlikely. I am about as confident as him extending his contract as I was Small.J BLOCK said:
If Ramsey says he won't sign a new contract, which is definitely an option, i'm confident we would cash in on him next summer.Braziliance said:
Oh, perfect then. Looks like he is staying for the rest of the season and if we stay up we will have him for one more year.fenaddick said:
Ramsays contract runs until next summer so won't be a free agentBraziliance said:

I can't see us selling unless the offer is insane.
Unlucky Ramsay mate.
It will take a sizeable wage increase, which won't match with our squad wages, and even then that's if we stay up. Plenty of other Champ teams can offer him a great salary without batting an eye.
Paddy is spot on, and it's the exact approach we should have had with Small, you won't sign better for the wages it would cost, so get stuck in.
I don't think we will sell him this January, as I can't see Jones having it, but I think the summer could be an issue.

I think their partnership produced zilch goals.ForeverAddickted said:

Promising.

So not really enough to suggest we are putting together a proven partnership. The idea really isn’t making me think I’m going to get the custard out, but if it happens I will give the fella a chance.ForeverAddickted said:

Am I the only one that thinks Dykes could be a useful signing. Defo could be a handful in the last 20 mins of games (winning and losing).9

If Dykes happens then NJ has his head above the parapet. Few strikers score goals because he plays 3-5-2 with no wing backs who can cross, and he is potentially bringing in a non-goalscoring forward.
Why did he buy Apter, a winger if he wanted 3-5-2? And TC? Bell is the only decent left footed defender so it should be four at the back. But we go with square pegs in round holes, and wonder why we lose.6 -
If anyone knows a target man forward who is experienced within our transfer/wage budget would work in a Nathan Jones system and is a proven goalscorer I’d love to hear but unfortunately never ticking all the boxes Dykes covers pretty much everything except a proven goalscorer and with him playing that should help others score more than they currently have0

Can’t see Ramsey signing a new contract with us.1

If that was the case then no transfers would ever get done as club A is waiting for club B who are waiting for club C, who in turn are waiting for clubs D & E......AberystwythAddick said:
Transfers don’t work like that. It’s not just a case of I want this player here is offer and then sign the contract. Most clubs will want to get replacements in before letting people out the door.Gisappointed said:I am annoyed that everyone knew we needed a LWB three months ago, or perhaps earlier when Edwards was injured. Is it too hard to put together a list and have someone on board at the beginning of January rather when the window slams shut.
That's potentially five league games and a prestigious cup match where we are likely to play an inverted winger at LWB who can't cross with his left foot towards our 6'6" centre forward.
Without seeing the list I'd rather our 3rd choice now, rather than our 1st choice on 31st.
Or FFS play 4-4-2 to suit the players we have in the building.0 -
I'd rather recall Kanu. Been playing regularly & finding the net. Unlike Dykes.CB1 said:Football league world now also saying we are plotting a move for Dykes. I know they aren’t reliable sometimes but there is no smoke without fire.1 -

Totally different type of player.golfaddick said:

Dykes plays a certain role and I see one of his major one’s for us (if he signed) as being unlocking Kelman.
As one of 3 or 4 signings….. wouldn’t be a bad start.
Combine with a centre back, left wing back, and midfielder? Not bad.2 -
Dykes would be the Chuks battering ram type replacement to cause some chaos and give Leaburn someone to learn from1
