Never. Ever. EVER play this man at left wing back again. He’s a totally different player in the final third and makes us look much more dangerous. Our third should basically be a no go area for him now10

Quality tonight proper good further up the pitch3

RONNIE HOW DO YOU THINK HE DID TONIGHT?
Ronnie?

simple.play him up top not as wingback0

That’s my boy ❤️4

He wouldn’t have played a single minute there this season if Edwards hadn’t been crocked by Blackburn in September.sam3110 said:Glad we played him up top tonight, he looked up for it and ran with purpose. I hope the left wing back experiment can be buried once and for all
I think that’s easy to forget that this situation ended up happening out of necessity and bad luck rather than some attempt to retrain him as a defender.

Well that defender won't forget Tyreece's name. Brilliant move before the run at goal. Very calm finish too.5

Football fans are fickle as f***. This season has seen fans up in arms with straight up abuse towards Jones, Campbell and Leaburn. Its so poor, honestly.14

To be fair to Ronnie, he's actually given Campbell some praise in the post match threadEugenesAxe said:RONNIE HOW DO YOU THINK HE DID TONIGHT?

Our only flair player who has been wasted at LWB. Gets so much stick from some of our fans who fail to see his quality.
Enjoy watching him play.2 -

He done ok gave him a 7 .. cause he did not have to worry about defending …. the goal was good reading of the situation but his first touch was awful which actually worked in his favour as took the goal well …. but still along way off being a starter and still very much still in the minus box over the FULL season so farEugenesAxe said:RONNIE HOW DO YOU THINK HE DID TONIGHT?

He's not a defender as you well know and playing him as a LWB hasn't done him any favours. He is the one player we have with any flair and I'm unclear why so many of our fans are continually on his back rather than recognising his quality.RonnieMoore said:

It almost feels like some of our fans are willing him to fail. Some of the criticism is bonkers...3 -
“I read that thread and every time Fenaddick posts I find myself nodding in agreement. That poster is the oracle and should be ignored at your peril”shirty5 said:This thread has been talked about on Cawley’s podcast after last night’s game
It was something like that anyway11 -
Incredibly awkward interview with Mendez (purely down to TC’s shyness, no one’s fault) but interesting that NJ and the staff have been helping TC with the mental side of the game and TC specifically mentioned reacting badly to some things. He’s so clearly a confidence player11
-
I saw Doherty try to find him for the fist pumps in front of the covered end, but he seemed to actively walk away and hide from it.
It was a nice touch that he did the tunnel jump instead9 -
He's so shy. It's no wonder that he and JRS got on well because they're both quiet, shy, polite young men. It's a shame that that doesn't always come across well to football fans as I think players like TC, Anderson and some of the other lads we've brought through are a credit to club and much better to have representing Charlton than the likes of Marcus Maddison, Lyle Taylor and Macauley Bonne have been in recent years.fenaddick said:Incredibly awkward interview with Mendez (purely down to TC’s shyness, no one’s fault) but interesting that NJ and the staff have been helping TC with the mental side of the game and TC specifically mentioned reacting badly to some things. It must be an interesting relationship he has with the manager, as shy and self-effacing NJ is very much NOT, and his intensity and perfectionism must be quite challenging for someone like TC.fenaddick said:Incredibly awkward interview with Mendez (purely down to TC’s shyness, no one’s fault) but interesting that NJ and the staff have been helping TC with the mental side of the game and TC specifically mentioned reacting badly to some things. That said I think it's very clear that Jones likes Campbell and rates him very highly as he would not keep picking him if he didn't, as seen by Apter.1 -
I think playing LWB will have done him favours developmentally but we all know it isn't his position. As for the boo boys, they can just F off. It is obvious he gives us something we don't have from anybody else and if you can't see that you are a bit football ignorant. Same with Leaburn and Anderson. Their futures are very bright.5

I think what we see in public and what we don’t see behind closed doors are very different with NJ, he’s an experienced manager and will know how to get the best out of an individual, no doubt there will be intensity, but I’d bet he knows how to calm things aswell.thenewbie said:

Be fair to him he said himself his first touch wasn't great, why mention defending in your critique, have you applied that to Godden too?RonnieMoore said:

I never understand why fans try and put players down when they’re low on confidence. Football fans seem to think a player who has a bad spell deserves personal abuse. Sometimes the tough love can work but other times it’s so damaging.balham red said:Football fans are fickle as f***. I can’t remember what game it was when we conceded right before half time and it was due to TC shirking a header in their box and they broke and scored. Bloke in front of me stood up and just pointed at TC and held it there shouting abuse. TC clearly looked up and saw him and visibily looked a bit humiliated and sad walking off the pitch. Think he was the last one to come off the pitch as well at half timefenaddick said:Incredibly awkward interview with Mendez (purely down to TC’s shyness, no one’s fault) but interesting that NJ and the staff have been helping TC with the mental side of the game and TC specifically mentioned reacting badly to some things. It's worth watching the goal a few times. Their defender didn't slip - he simply got out-thought by TC on instinct. The defender Phillips expected and wanted him to run across him, no doubt to push him which is a good speciality of his.Great instinctive play, TC. Match winner.12

Really pleased for Campbell after I have consistently given him a lot of stick for having No End Product.
I still maintain he offers very little if he plays as a Winger and would like to see his speed used to greater effect with him playing more centrally like last night. He came on and in that position obviously made a real difference. Long may it continue.

This is really sweet, did the same celebration as his brother in the stands

Was TC really the only option even if Jones had to show no tactical flexibility and couldn't switch to a back four?Callumcafc said:

Same in the west upper as well, every week no matter what he does they're on his back all game - even after he scored they still continued for rest of the match yesterday. Given he plays out wide he most likely be hearing a lot of it, so no wonder he holds back more than rest of our squad when it comes to the fans.Steven81 said:Was 4 pikey looking geezers back of the west one with the brilliant white turkey teeth and no hair giving him proper verbals all the time he was on despite the great run, shot and the goal aswell, one little give the ball away losing their shit, proper mugs shut them right up but no doubt they will have some excuse to why he was bad or something, won us the game love him.3
