Our support may make the difference on whether or not we stay up
When the season's predictions were made nearly all of our fans thought we would be bottom half.
Most of us thought we would be in a scrap with 6 or 7 teams to stay up.
So we are positioned where most of us thought we would be.
Ok, we may improve and end up in a comfortable position, but it's not looking the most likely outcome.
The biggest key to survival will most likely be picking up points at home and to do that we need to stick together and get behind the team, not just in the good times, but also when things aren't going our way.
We know what we need to do, so let's continue to do it.

After Monday night's game we will have played half of the season, of which 10 games will have been played at home and 13 away.
So, conversely, 13 of our remaining games will be at The Valley. This fact could be huge.17 -
It’s a nice thought, but I doubt it.1

I am totally convinced (and always have been )that the support of the crowd is massively underated.I live in east london and have a number of west ham fans as friends. In the 80s and 90s I have seen west ham get relegated a couple of times and on both occasions their crowd turned against them early in tbe season. The biggest advantage we have is low expectations .We are not a great team nor do we play attractive but there is a togetherness for the first time for a decade between, team manager and owners.west ham hate their owners ,hate their team (except jared bowen )and hate their stadium.we will stay up.they will go fown8

Well, I pledge to do my bit whether it actually makes a difference or not. Of course, the rub is, all the other teams have fans too, so it'll all balance out in the end.3

Don’t worry. NJ will now rest the majority of our first team for Chelsea to concentrate on the league 😉🤔2

I thought our support was very vitriolic from where I was sat yesterday. Leaburn seemed to be copping most of it but towards the end every player was being called a c*** or a wanker.
Not sure that's the type of support you are looking for.2 -
Precisely and if the fans turn on the team at home we're in big trouble.golfaddick said:I thought our support was very vitriolic from where I was sat yesterday. Leaburn seemed to be copping most of it but towards the end every player was being called a c*** or a wanker.

We need to be getting behind them especially when we're struggling.9 -
I am not expecting Godden to be nearly as effective as he was last year. If and when he gets back I’m expecting something like 1 in 5.PhilFor54 said:

We lost 5-1 to Southampton and were chanting Nathan Jones Red Army what else do you want?!Things went a tad quiet at Norwich (after they scored), but apart from that tw** on X who created an account to trash on every Charlton Manager since JJ (go on X now it is now Nathan Jones out, but their handle is @bengardnerout), but we are still behind Nathan. This is not last season you know (though by this time last season we had beaten Northampton and Cambridge United, so this was the period of the turn around)2 -
That’s prolific for us compared to the strikers who’ve been playing so farCallumcafc said:

The crowd has zero influence2
-
I think the crowd does have influence. Boo and shout at the players and some disappear into themselves and it just harms their confidence even more. Look at TC under Appleton, I won't ever forget Orient away, the crowd / his body language, it was grim watching and one of my worst Charlton experiences.

I don’t go on twitter but it’s probably one of the obsessed weirdo’s on vital Millwall like moody - best ignored - it’s the support we give at matches that matters and can make a differenceJustFloydRoad said:Covered End said:When the season's predictions were made nearly all of our fans thought we would be bottom half.

Of course it does - watched first half of the Millwall game against Ipswich - place was like a morgue - similar to our opening 20 mins or whatever against pompey - that was the first time we - as fans - haven’t turned up this season and can’t happen againAthletico Charlton said:I think the crowd does have influence. This will sound mad but it's easier to get behind the team in a 5-1 when we're picked apart than a 1-0 when we're lacklustre. There was no lack of effort against Southampton and the crowd were showing they could see that and were vocal about it, there was also an improved second half performance.JustFloydRoad said:Covered End said:When the season's predictions were made nearly all of our fans thought we would be bottom half.

That point we got at Birmingham I genuinely think the team were feeding off our support - 1 down it was looking bleak but as fans we went up a gear and the team attacking towards us fed off of it and it started to feel more like a home game - where do we score most of our goals at home ? Attacking the covered end second half - the whole game plan is built around it2

I'll copy and paste what I said on another thread that references Orient away and Tyreece;Athletico Charlton said:I think the crowd does have influence. Look at TC under Appleton, I won't ever forget Orient away, the crowd / his body language, it was grim watching and one of my worst Charlton experiences.
My profile pic is me and my pal with Kanu and Anderson at the POTY do in 2024. They were both very engaging company and delightful young men.
I asked Daniel if he recalled the "de de de de, fucking useless" chant our own fans directed at Tyreece at Orient on Boxing Day when he miscontrolled a pass. He said he did and said how it affected Tyreece.
We can all draw our own conclusions as to whether players have to be mentally tougher or if fans need to be unwavering in their support. To me it seems obvious Tyreece needs our support at all times and if Nathan Jones is a big fan of his work then that'll do for me.5 -
Digging out Tyreece Campbell is one of the saddest features of some of our support.10

One of the things TC's weaknesses as a footballer is letting the crowd affect his performance. No disrespect, but if he ever got his dream move to Arsenal, I doubt the fans would be any better there.0 -
