Signs of improvement over the last few games eclipsed by poor results.
The crowd could be key. I think the team needs unconditional support today, especially if we goal down. Turn on them and it could get very messy.

We'll have to find a way to stay in the game, ride our luck for a bit. As others have said, it's just another league match. My expectations are low - we're in awful form and we're playing the league leaders. But hope is high, I've seen enough football down the years to know anything is possible. How we deal with setbacks during the game will be key for me - heads can't drop for a moment.

We must be a perfect opponent for Sakamoto, how we keep him quiet I don't know. He's been their standout player from the bits of their games I've seen.
He’s a quality player. Was brilliant for them last season too.

    • Charlton Athletic have won only two of their last 11 home league games against Coventry City (D6 L3), last hosting the Sky Blues in October 2018 in League One and losing 2-1.
    • Coventry City have won each of their last three league meetings with Charlton Athletic, already their longest ever winning streak against the Addicks in the Football League.
    • Charlton Athletic have lost five of their last six home league games played on New Year's Day (W1), with the exception coming when beating Walsall 2-1 in League One in 2019.
    • Coventry City are unbeaten in their first game of the calendar year in each of the last 12 years (W9 D3), with only Manchester City (W13) on a longer such run in England’s top four tiers.
    • Coventry have won five of their last six away league matches in London (D1), winning both under Frank Lampard (1-0 and 4-0 both against Millwall in 2024-25 and 2025-26).

I watched the Coventry v Ipswich game on SKY. They have a few problems themselves. They were wide open on their right and Ipswich took full advantage. Jack Clarke rinsed their Right Back Milan Van Ewick, who can’t defend one-against-one on his outside. This is the game for TC to come of age. Hopefully Nathan will set us up for TC to isolate Van Ewick and then get the ball to him at every opportunity.
Let's Hope Van Ewick is in position with TC also in position for this to become decisive to the outcome.

Well this is a tough one to start the year. But then our record against them at home is not so bad and the pressure is all on them. Being top you are always there to be shot at. I think none of us can still believe what happened at Portsmouth. I just hope our returning injured players can play another 2 games. Difficult one to predict, a good performance bur Coventry sneak it, 1-0.

What happened to anderson? Sick ? Injured?

I think we will take this 2-1
    being sold?????

According to info in the match thread, he traveled Monday to Portsmouth. Docherty seen down the sea front prior to the match, whether he was with Roussillon and Anderson is unconfirmed. Can be sure Jones was furious. Roussillon no doubt got the blame as ring leader, and only Docherty made the squad. Anderson's whereabouts remains a mystery. Some suggesting transfer listed.  Behind the scenes is a bigger mess than on the pitch currently.

    0-2 to Coventry.
Sorry but where has this bollocks come from? Some twitter crap no doubt. Same as Rousillon eating a tub of Quality Street on the Norwich coach. This stuff gets repeated and some gullible people believe it. I don’t doubt that maybe Docherty and others were seen having a walk by the seafront. So what? It’s commonplace, or was back in the day, to see opposition players wandering down Bexleyheath Broadway or down Gravel Hill on the morning of a match, I’ve seem them a number of times. So if Doc and others were out having a stroll, stretching their legs, taking in some air why would Jones be furious?
    Just joining the dots. E.g. from Page 7 of the match thread;
"Just need to make sure if we sub Doc on to give him enough time to get up from the beach with the crabs…"
Plus Jones would rightly be annoyed if players broke a pre-match routine. Roussillion has form too. Need i remind you, seen smirking at other players warming up at a recent home game.

    We’re Charlton!
I can’t remember how often we’ve lose to teams in the bottom half and then gone and beaten the league leaders!
    2-1 to the mighty Reds!

I like them. Last 10 home league games v today’s opponents have seen 6 of those end in a draw.

Would take that today considering our poor run of results since the West Brom home game

0-4 today as Coventry will want to atone for their defeat the other day. They are just too quick, good and have class all over the park.

We are weak all over and will be overrun in midfield.

Need some new loans or signings or we could end up back in L1.

Sorry for the negativity, but the last 2 defeats have been poor and losing against 2 poor sides is why i have little faith we will do anything today.

So it’s only Coventry that want to atone for recent results?, why does that give them the god given right to win 4-0 just because they want to?

Have you ever been 'by the seafront' in Portsmouth. It's a desolate wasteland 😂
    Watching the hovercraft.

Pretty much the main attraction in Portsmouth.
There is no way professional footballers go walkies before a match. They will all have travelled together and followed the same ore natch itinerary. But what has happened to Anderson???
As I said a few years back you'd often see opposition players wandering around Bexleyheath early on a Saturday morning, stretching their legs etc otherwise they'd just be holed up in the hotel.

So that quote is just from someone posting on the match thread. As said just bollocks. And you are assuming they broke a pre match routine. Do you have any evidence to back up that they did? No, thought so. Posting such nonsense is believed by others and passed on as being true and suddenly it's 'there is trouble in the camp'. We don't need that now. We need everyone pulling together to ensure we stay up. I'd give it a rest if I were you.

Mason-Clark would be the player that would really scare me for them. Tore us apart for Posh a couple of seasons back and is in red hot form.

They are much better than us, so have the capability to do us more damage than we might do to them.

Hope I am proved wrong at 4:55 pm.

If we want to raise our game for the rest of the season then playing the league leaders today and Chelsea Saturday week is a pretty good place to start. As the saying goes, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. The January window is now open, the time for sentimentality and hoping someone might one day raise their game to what is needed every minute they are on the pitch is officially over. If a player can’t raise their game for both of these two matches then they probably should be telling their agent to find them a L1 or L2 club to play for because the Championship is not the place for them

Hopefully this game is less of a car crash than Lulu's cover of The Man Who Sold the World on last night's Hootenanny.
