This bloke ain't keeping again in Tests. Might not even play again1
-
I have seen nothing but hype around Rew but know very little about him.Is he actually any good?0
-
Don't think he'll be back as a keeper.Laddick01 said:I have seen nothing but hype around Rew but know very little about him.Is he actually any good?
Batting I'm not going to judge from one innings.0 -
What this Test has shown is that Robinson and Atkinson are better bowlers than Fisher and Baker.
Rew is not good enough to keep wicket at Test level .
I expect Robinson, Atkinson, Smith and Stokes to all return for the next Test.6 -
The way Root handled his bowlers in the 1st innings showed to me why he lost (resigned, whatever) the captaincy back when.. i.e. terribly1
-
Williamson gave way because he didn't want to stand in the way of Nicholls who has now, in turn, rewarded the Kiwi's with a ton.0
-
Feels like a game at the end of Roots captaincy. Struggling to bowl teams out having conceeded a first innings deficit after most of our top order failed.
Something nice about the familiar.0 -
The thing about Test cricket is that, even the worst days on the field are brilliant to experience from the stands

Did the first two days up here not sure I’ve ever drunk so much trying to stay hydrated 🥴6 -

Stokes: Rooty, can you make sure England are really sh*t this week, to make sure I come back as captain for the 3rd Test?
Root: A pleasure skip!4 -
I presume Rew suffers with arthritis, with his slow movement and inability to close his fingers and thumbs.2
-
360-8. Fisher chipped in with a couple of wickets1
-
362 all out.
Good day so far, apart from the early drop catch.
Should take the game into tomorrow but cant see us getting much past 300, let alone into the 400's.0 -
Been watching the Kent game, but see the top 3 went cheaply. Root and Brook will have to score the runs if we are to get anywhere near the total0
-
They won’t get them but both are playing incredibly entertaining cricketkillerandflash said:Been watching the Kent game, but see the top 3 went cheaply. Root and Brook will have to score the runs if we are to get anywhere near the total0 -
Magnificent half century for Brook from 33 balls1
-
Meanwhile Stokes is out for 95 for Durham. Only Div 2 but good to see him get runs1
-
Poor old Rew ..he's had a stinker of a game...if he gets another chance I'd see him as a 3 ..whilst his bowling has been a bonus I am still uncomfortable about Bethells selection bearing in mind his previous lack of cricket0

I also sacrificed myself to the cause of hydration on Friday. Had 5 pints by 3 pm and still didn't feel the need for a visit..is that the Sylvester Clarke stand ?oohaahmortimer said:

I had 5 pints by 12.30 day one, over excited , day two I reckon it was nearer 3pm when the 5 pints were hit
The Lock Balcony I was in both days3 -
In the same way I have been critical of Archer being allowed to use the central contract system, the same criticism applies to Bethell. Zero red ball games prior to this series and the results have been in this series 6, 14, 9 and 0.
Players like Bethell would do well to remember that England put them on the world stage. Without that it might have taken a lot longer to get a contract at the IPL. He averaged 18.11 in this year's competition which will, actually, reduce his value unless he does more on the world stage. And the greatest stage of all is international cricket. There is also now a bit of a backlash in India with Sunny Gavaskar saying that the IPL shouldn't be making millionaires of ordinary cricketers. Principally because they have any number of batters capable of averaging 18.11 who aren't Indian internationals.
I have no problem whatsoever with players wanting to turn their backs on England for money. But they will have to source themselves that underpin and insurance that a central contract gave them. In the case of someone who is injury prone, like Archer, they might find the premiums horrendous, always assuming someone is willing to insure them.
No Indian contracted player is allowed to play white ball cricket elsewhere. If the ECB seriously regard The Hundred as their equivalent then that, the Vitality Blast and the Metro should be their only white ball tournaments.
So, pay more players a much smaller "retainer" (say £100,000), allow them to be paid per match by their county and then offer them far more for making an England squad and then the team. Then we'll find out those who really want to play for England and elevate their own game in doing so as opposed to those who will do so when it suits them.

Stokes and Atkinson withdrawn from their Championship fixtures. They’ll be back for the next test clearly2
-
Good to see that Matt Henry's cricketing education in Kent wasn't wasted on him.5
-
Another pathetic batting performance. Please god can we get rid of Jacob Bethell.Simply not good enough.Il get pelters here but bring back Ollie Pope.Much better BATSMAN than Bethell.Im sick and tired of white ball specialists playing test cricket. We"re suppose to be building for the Ashes next year. This team has no chance whatsoever. Also no specialist spinner.. Rehan Ahmed is a proper spinner and can bat aswell as his ton proved yesterday but for some reason th.ey keep picking Bashir.
Well played New Zealand.Deserved to win this test and will win the next one if England dont improve.

We can only be thankful that Matt Henry got injured during the First Test otherwise the Series would already be lost.1

Hope you aren't there today. 5 pints by the end of the game might be a bit of a challenge!oohaahmortimer said:I had 5 pints by 12.30 day one, over excited , day two I reckon it was nearer 3pm when the 5 pints were hit

Matt Henry is showing you how to bowl on this pitch. Superb display of bowling. Target the stumps or just outside the off stump with some in swing. I would like to see Rehan Ahmed picked for the next game with the return of Stokes, Atkinson, Smith and Robinson, if fit. I would pick Cox instead of Bethell.1
