Just had a look at the players' marks thread, and I don't think I've ever seen so many ones and twos. I do wonder whether @RodneyCharltonTrotta has rather overdone it with drowning his sorrows and is still utterly plastered, or bet big on 4-0, as I'm at a loss to explain his choice to give 10s across the board. However, even more intriguing is what TC and Anderson have done to piss on @RonnieMoore's chips for him to give them both 2s and Ramsay (who scored an own goal, headed the ball straight to the scorer of Millwall's 4th and hardly covered himself in glory in the rest the game) somehow awarded a 5?!1

All this talk of reinforcements and recruitment: I can't help thinking that whether we like it or not, the set of potential candidates that simultaneously meet financial fair play rules, want to play for Charlton and can actually improve the team is not as large as some of us seem to think it is.7

If you try to rationalise anything Ronnie comes out with, you will end up with white tape wrapped around your fingers and continually gnawing at it.aliwibble said:Just had a look at the players' marks thread, and I don't think I've ever seen so many ones and twos. Those people equally need to take a breath. Can you name a specific person who doesn’t care if we go down?DamoNorthStand said:

No, we needed to risk our injury prone ones to produce the cup shock of Chelsea only scoring 5 against uskinveachyaddick said:

Actually liked his post match interview and I think we might actually see a bit of a reaction / change - we have to.
I’m hopeful we can get a couple more bodies in this week.
I also still believe had we had Bell / Edwards for the last few months we’d be a good 10/12 points better off and not worried at all.
Those 2 injuries have killed the whole balance of the side.
There simply has to be a reaction to that display today though

In my view Carter (as the boardroom rep) is too trusting of Rodwell. Not sure Rodwell has yet proved his worth to the clubs fortunes.Too many cut price squad decisions from a fans perspective.11

Is it the same source as the last time he lost the dressing room when that wasn’t true?
The sources on here who have said he has fallen out with Doc and Apter have proven to be very reliable in numerous things. The body language of TC every time he is moved to LB is clear for any fan watching to see.
Has he lost the dressing rooms I don't know, but it's pretty obvious there are some major issues.
The two I have seen are cafcfan who has posted for years and stjohnshill if I recall correctly. Don't know either of them but neither seem like WUMs from their posts.0 -
That was beyond poor today, my day was then further ruined by a 5-1 defeat for my eldest... remind me why do we love this sport?
I'll be honest I'm not a NJ fan, never have been but I don't generally criticise him out of the respect for the job he's done and the progress we've made.
My general feeling has always been the football is so basic (and poor to watch IMO) and would be found out in the Champ, but the bigger issue for me has always been his ego. When we do well it's always what he's done and when we don't its always the players.
Today that performance and Derby looked like a team that have run out of ideas or simply given up, when that happens I can't see how the NJ ego will lift or win back players. Supported by the rumours of falling out with players, constant random changes it's clear all isn't well and he's slowly losing the plot. Those comments post match won't have won over the changing room over.
When you combine performances, results and NJ's performance I think a change has to be made very soon, I just don't see him turning this around, he couldn't at Stoke or Southampton (my son's coach works for Southampton, and he's said many times who strange and unpopular he was there)
A shame really as I'm not one for snap decisions and constant changes but given I can't see us spending £5m in the next 10 days, so we need someone to lift the fog and come in with a style of play that can compete in this league. My pick would be Rowett based on the similar jobs he did at Brum & Oxford.
There's a bigger questions on if the players are good enough but they need to be given some kind of chance, some depth at CB & LB, this team also seriously lacks some size and power in CM, and we are desperately in need of some pace and creativity - someone like a JRS and a style of football that is less predictable than lumping it to the big man and attempting to land on 2nds.
Can we get some quality in, can these owners spend some money? The proven Champ quality we brought in came with injury risk and been proven true with Burke & Bell and the money spent, was on educated gambles on the cream of league one - Tanto, Knibbs, Apter. We now need some proven talent or this will end the in the same way as Bows season (similar pattern, very different circumstances)
It will be a sad way for the NJ reign to end, but I think he's not a Champ manager, he's not tactically up to it and apart from half a season at Luton, he's not got any clear evidence to suggest otherwise. Thanks NJ but time to step aside please.

Surprised by now the call hasn't gone out from our fans for Curbs to come in to "help" NJ. I mean, he was the last manager to beat Millwall.

I had a family engagement at lunchtime (it would have been my father-in-law's birthday today so we went out for a nice lunch, as we always do) so couldn't watch the match live.
Against my better judgement I decided to record the Sky coverage and started watching it at about 5:30. I've then spent the rest of the evening wading through the post-match thread.
None of what has passed before my eyes has been enjoyable.
Just because we know what's going to happen every time we play against the Spanners doesn't make it any easier.
The first half was OK-ish, in a non-threatening kind of way, even though we rode our luck on more than one occasion. The second half was nothing short of a disgrace and there aren't adequate words in the English language to describe just how embarrassing and putrid that was.
I have no idea where we go from here to turn this around but maybe, for starters, we stop fannying around with the ball across the back line. We aren't good enough at it, we aren't quick enough doing it and all we do is give up the ball in dangerous areas.
Goal kicks: get Kaminski (other keepers are available) to launch the ball upfield instead of a 5 yard sideways pass (which takes is back to the previous paragraph).
Midfield: maybe a bit of movement won't go amiss? We're too slow, too static. I can see why Karoy gets a gig at the moment because he seems to be the only one running around across half-back/midfield.
Forwards: redundant at the moment as nothing's getting anywhere near them unless they're coming back to defend. If they were feeding off scraps that would be a banquet compared to the "service" they've had in recent weeks/months.
Our next three home games are all evening kick-offs and living where I do they're bloody awful. In years gone by I'd have thought nothing of attending them, regardless of how we're doing but now? My enthusiam is waning. Why should I spend hours of my day, not to mention the cost, travelling down to watch a bunch of players who can't even manage a successful short pass, before getting home at silly o'clock in the morning? It's getting tiring.
The original date of the Stoke game, 14th Feb, is the 45th anniversary of my first Charlton match and I've seen some dross in that time (OK, a lot of dross). I don't expect my football club to be challenging for major honours or even occupy a place in the top division but being able to do the basics expected of a professional footballer is a given.
Too many aren't doing that right now.11 -
Why are you sorry for your opinion? Is it because deep down you know it's not really the solution, rather a desperate throw of the dice?Treacey1969 said:I'm sorry but NJ has to go. He spoke about his teams high intensity which was missing not only today after the shambolic defeat by Millwall. We lost 1 to 1 battles, players not tracking, the stupidity of the continuation of the short goal kick that ultimately loses us possession in our half, previously throw ons going backwards ending up with our keeper. Lack of risk taking that shows up when players do not anticipate by running off one another. I could go on about certain players and their continued performances which was pitiful and clearly the over indulgence of NJ ex players who jump to his tune doesn't help. We are now going backwards in terms of defensive capabilities but NJ tactics doesn't help on terms of attack. In short we need a change.
Weeks ago West Ham fans were calling for their manager's head. We need a spark to get a result then confidence will return. We haven't got the best players but they've shown they can work as a team and have better results than three other teams.
I hate NJ's football and I think he has a stubbornness and weird kind of falling in and out with some players, but we've seen before that he can be inspirational and charasmatic. Left wing back issues aside, we have to hope for two things: that he can rediscover the good side of his character, and his team react in equal measure.2 -
I knew this season would be a struggle, but I thought we would stay up. I am starting to seriously doubt Jones for the first time. Even after Crawley I believed in him. But things are starting to feel different now. Falling out with multiple players, the performances over a long period, constant player changes, the inept attack and unwillingness to only start 3-5-2.It would probably cost 2-3m to sack Jones. The owners could think it’s better to invest that money on players. Whatever they decide to do, they need to spend in the next 10 days.I just hope they realise how catastrophic relegation would be for their investment and the momentum of the club. I don’t think the fan base could mentally handle going back to league 110

losing to these inbreds has to stop now - rodwell, carter , the dosey american c***s, all of u - put some proper money in or fuck off - we should not be playing second fiddle to that gang of half wits - they've won fuck all, never will win fuck all yet r lording it over us now - this isn't right - sort it out or fuck off.10

I fucking hate them soooo much and don’t get me started on the scum .
That was a chance to pay your mortgage off , 4/5 on them to beat close to one of the lamest teams we’ve had against one of the best they’ve had is an opportunity that might never arrive again .
Genuinely can’t see us winning for a good while, lack of ability , skill and heart and a me me me manager , my teams never do that , well fuck your teams my team is Charlton and your claim of it hurting you more than me will never ever be true .
On to Leicester next week , I’ll be there reluctantly, it’s another put your house on the oppo job and We can talk about the wealth gap and it’s tough to compete against them after the inevitable defeat and just use any old excuse as we fall towards relegation with this run out of luck manager .

I'm at work offshore, and as much as I tried to watch the stream, then just listen to the audio, I had no joy. In hindsight, reading this thread, it was joyous to miss.
I've just watched the 'highlights'. Wow. That was inexcusable. All 4 goals were poor.
I've not rated Kaminski, I think his confidence is absolutely shot after back to back relegations. Well he's heading for his 3rd on the trot, I doubt many players have that on their CV.
With the 1st goal, why he didn't catch that cross is baffling, it's not like it came at him with speed, it was an easy height, but yet again, he pushes it into danger, and we concede.
The penalty is another one that pisses me off, none of our players follow in with any conviction, there are 5 Millwall players following up ahead of our lot. Some of ours were walking into the area.
We've lost conviction, tactical acumen and desire. It's the desire that hurts most.
We've disinterested players, going of that performance. All this leads to NJ and the management/ owner groups. Why haven't they backed him in this window, with at least a fit and proper LWB/LB?
I wonder if NJ's ego, which everyone knows is big and fragile, is getting in the way of things. I wonder if he's upset the apple cart in the boardroom, and this his trickled down to Sparrow's lane and the players. Just my hypothesis of course.
In any case, we are facing another crux, like December last season, where we need to improve, and quickly.

I'm so frustrated - my brain is trying to convince me League One is better for us as a defence mechanism against what is increasingly looking inevitable.
Sod it - let's sack him.
Going down with a whimper and looking SOOOOOO weak defensively is no way to live.
He has clearly upset everyone in the building - we have gone from very good defensively to utter headless chickens.
The captain has called him out, probably at the behest of multiple senior players, and his courage has been rewarded with the end of his Charlton career.
Anderson yesterday was appalling - he was scared, naive and not ready for this type of game.
We need new ideas with these players, the entire system relies on a solid back 5 and we havn't had one for months.
So it's an entirely new set of ideas we need or several million spend to ensure we can play the way Jones wants to.
Gilespey will get spit roasted against 80% of the teams in this division.
Fuck it - maybe league one is better for us and we can stop dreaming, just accept sub 9k crowds and enjoy the odd bigger tie when a championship big wig get's relegated.

Who’s ’taking a risk.’?
So what's the alternative then? a relegation that could cost us 3 or 4 times more, over numerous seasons back in League One.
If a top player was to come into the side, earning a huge salary, are the other players really going to be that upset, if that player is then largely responsible for keeping us up ?
I just don't see the logic. If staying in the Division requires spending large sums, and our owners can afford it, then do what is required.
Another relegation for our club could be catastrophic.

Looking at today’s awful, awful performance it appeared that it could be true..
A number of players were simply going through the motions.
I have been watching Charlton since the late 1960’s, this was as bad a performance as I can remember.I don’t know where Jones goes from here, but after today the writing is on the wall and relegation is probably inevitable.
