Completely outclassed in every department. Something has to change. We are not good to watch, do not create anything so don’t score, and can’t keep clean sheets. Jones is so stubborn but unless we change our formation and approach, we are sunk. I don’t think jones will go for this but unless he finds something he’s now getting closer to the door

I’m slowly coming round to the fact NJ has been let down today by that shower on the pitch.

Doesn’t excuse all the other stuff - but where’s the accountability from the players for what we saw there?

Absolute cowards the lot of them

First half I thought we were ok but we still didn’t really look like scoring and were making many mistakes at the back.

Second half was one of the worst performances I can remember, just utterly hopeless. The Godden sub was already planned before the goal and I sort of see it as useful to give him minutes given the game is gone at that point anyway. But 4-0 is really demoralising compared to 2-0.

Bar maybe TC (who still doesn’t have enough composure for me) we don’t have anywhere near the kind of quality that the sides were coming up against do. So for that reason I’m not quite ‘Jones out’ yet because I’m not convinced anyone else would do that much better. But I can see why some are. The constant changing of shape is synonymous with tactical ineptitude. We have no identity and maybe that makes sense given our identity last year was very much suited to league 1.

We need some quality reinforcements but it’s obvious they’re not going to arrive and I’m very worried about relegation now.

As an aside, I was quite impressed with the experience at the den. Good concourse area with food options, quick to get a drink and got back to LB quickly after the game. Very sad to say but they’re miles ahead of us in every area at the moment.

And I'm not even having this bollocks that Chambers was supposedly our "first choice" to sign. No way.
If course not, but if not willing to raid their own pockets for the dosh required that is all you can get.

I have just cursed my old man for making me support Charlton. This result is going to take a while to get over. I keep saying to myself it's only football but that doesn't help.

Same thing my son says to me. I tell him to blame his grandad because he took me when I was only 6 or 7 years old. Funny thing is, my old man worked at Elliotts in Deptford......where workers went to Millwall or Charlton. In a parallel universe I would be supporting the Blue side of SE London.

    Embarrassing shambles.

Jones seems to have no plan B and won’t give up on trying to make plan A work even though it hasn’t for months.

Ive been a jones fan for a long time, but today is the first time im starting to question his ability to keep us up
We went plan B in the second half after the triple subs and it ended up being worse!

Well I think most Charlton Fans have been very patient and understanding with NJ weekly analysis of how each disaster occurred etc.
he is a good first division manager and unless we replace him that is where we will all end up 👎👎
no tactical competence or leadership just utter rubbish 👎👎👎👎

Genuinely one of the most embarrassing and gutless performances you'll ever see from any side in a derby. Pair that with a manager who doesn't seem to have any clue what he's doing with initial set up or subs, and it's a recipe for disaster.

No leaders, no composure, no quality.

This lot love fucking glazing themselves over social media for beating 9 men 1-0, my advice would be they either apologise or stay very fucking quiet for the next few weeks.

  • Team selection was shockingly poor.

No excuse for playing Anderson over Coventry.

So he says he motivates them and coaches them and it's on him, I wonder if he's put 2 and 2 together and realised that ever since he's seemingly frozen the club captain out, the side has lost a lot of it's form, desire and togetherness
But Docherty was shite in most games I have seen.
Doesn't matter if he's shite, it's clearly the way he's handled it. Docherty is the heartbeat of the squad, look at all the videos they do in preseason, behind the scenes in training, the random videos where they ask players who would be the best Traitor etc, he's integral to the morale of the squad, and you piss him off and ostracise him, it's gonna have an impact on the other players
So remove him as captain! He is simply not good enough.

Or are you saying the other 18 can’t perform without him?

Not saying Jones has not lost the dressing room, but Docherty’s absence is not why we are shite.

Our squad is weak and NJ is an average manager.

Missing the point, it's about man management, not about who's actually the captain

Difficult to know where to start. The obvious is we are simply not good enough as a team/squad and we will only survive going down by some fortune. Our players lack the quality and the physical strength this division requires. We were holding our own until Southampton but that game, then Stoke, ripped the heart out of everything and we have not recovered since. I like Jones mostly but his selection baffles. Has he played the same team twice? Last year's run was won on stable selection. I question how, with Apter and others on hand, he can play the Liverpool loan boy after a couple of days in the most heated of local derbies? What would he think the boy could have got re any tactics or awareness of his team-mates? A £5 million striker he says has top quality yet he doesn't even start... again. No Coventry but puts in Rankin-Costello who has only had one half decent game since he arrived. There simply no logic to the teams he is putting out. Ramsey has been so bad of late it's untrue (strange because he showed great promise last year) so where is the young lad Gough who played well the other day (who would know our 'tactics'). This is out club, we are supporters and that doesn't mean we support just for wins, we had a great time last year, but it is clear we are simply not equipped with the players or manager (at the moment) to live as a Championship team. Hopefully, that moment can pass and we can get some semblance of our early form back. But I think that will need some stability in team selection. COYR!

    Chambers looked good.
But wtf do you spend weeks knowing you need a lwb then sign an unfit one?
    Madness

yeah not sure what the Chambers bashing is for.  He made a couple of fluffs, but for a player bought in just a few days ago, and supposedly without much match fitness, he did pretty good.  Passing was (mostly) decent, didn't seem afraid to stick a foot in and, most importantly, freed Campbell up to see the first half performance that he put in, which was excellent.

I think some people are unaware that he has been injured since last April & has only played 2 reserve matches this season.....both for around 60 mins just to check his fitness.

He was never going to come in & play 90 mins......and probably wont for a number of games.

He was always going to play just 45 -60 mins. And then someone (TC) would have to take over.

I agree we played ok but let Azeez run across him who then should have scored. We definitely need another left sided defender otherwise we'll just see TC at LWB all through Feb.

    NO MORE UNFIT LOAN PLAYERS.

    SPEND SOME FUCKING MONEY.

THIS SQUAD WILL NOT STAY UP.

Is that clear enough ladies & gentlemen? It really is that simple.
No point. People will just tell you to be patient & it’s atebetter getting the right player in for the last 15 matches than someone from jan 1st.

Mate, seriously have a fucking day off

19/20 season after 28 games we were in 19th position and had just made the following loan signings: Andre Green, Aiden McGeady, Matt Smith and David Davis. We all know how that ended up!

25/26 season after 28 games we are in 18th position and have signed another couple of unremarkable loan signings!

    Do we ever learn?

I called 4-0 pre match and really they deserved more. There's zero Championship quality in our squad and when I say quality I mean real game changers. Add Jones odd starting line ups and tactical alterations (why move TC to LWB?) we look in real trouble..

No need to comment on that performance as most have already summed it up on here already.

This is going to sound ridiculous but I actually think we needed that result today to show NJ how some of these players are not up to scratch. I think of late we have been marginally losing whilst being outplayed which has papered over the cracks for NJ thinking all we need is players to come back. We have 2 first team players out injured it’s not like when we were last here with Bowyer and half our team were missing.

I think sacking him would be suicidal as any replacement would either be an inexperienced punt or Gary Rowett who plays that same way as Jones so won’t be helpful for our situation.

    Few pointers for me:

Kaminski - Needs to come off his line more for crosses and control his area
Clarke - One of the players who can hold his head high
Ramsey - Performing his way out of a contract
Jones - Let down by the rest of his defence
    Macca - Get rid
Chambers - Thought he did well tbf
Anderson - If he wasn’t an academy graduate we would’ve seen him gone long ago
JRC - Gone off form since being wrongly pulled from the team
Carey - One trick pony can’t seem to pass the ball at the right time
    Dykes - No support
Campbell - Decent game when up front but needs to stop falling over

Fullah - Not ready but shows glimpses of quality
Kelman - Looks lazy and disinterested
Burke - Just looking for a payslip
    Coventry - Didn’t notice him
Godden - Just coming back from long term injury

Need a response against Leicester now to make up for that performance.
  • I’ve seen us relegated a fair few times since my first game in 1959, and this team has the look of a side that will join that list. I cannot find anything positive about that display today and I genuinely feel we will end up second bottom, as, Wednesday aside, all those teams around us have more going for them than do we.
As for the manager, he seems as clueless as his players.
Watching Charlton at the moment is joyless.

Time for Jones to go.  To play like we did in that second half against your local rivals.  It’s also painfully clear he’s out of ideas, and it looks like the players aren’t interested in playing for him based on how pedestrian we were in the second half.

I’ve held an optimistic/keep the faith line all season, but on today’s showing he’s done.  If we keep setting up in the same conservative manner every week we’ll likely go down anyway, so I don’t see it as a gamble to give the reigns to someone else for the remainder and freshen it up, they may just respond.

I will say it looks like we just don’t have the quality to score goals regardless, but we have to try something different for the remainder otherwise this is the tip of the iceberg.  Based on how we’ve got more and more feeble going forward over the season, I don’t think I’d want him in charge again if we went down anyway

Hope he and the players come out and apologise for that, insult to all the fans who made the effort to go.
Excellent ! who you got in mind for the job then ?

That is the problem, our continually buying players who are injury prone or due to injury have not played any competitive football in months or years.

Not sure this Charlton team have what it takes to stay up. Deficiencies all over the pitch. Manager who every season goes through a period of wearing blinkers. Unless this week brings in some genuine quality then I think we’ll be back down with the dead men next season.
What blinkers did he have on last season Shooters ?

Fair play to Jones in his post match interview, held his hands up and quite rightly apologised for that 'performance' and said it was on him. Didnt pull any punches for a change anyway. On the plus side i dont know any millwank fans, every cloud🤔
Fair play. At least he has apologised
Thats ok then. I hear the Captain of the Titanic also apologised.

Within the next couple of weeks we’ll be in the relegation zone, we won’t emerge from it.
