It's interesting how L1 loan wingers have helped us and Portsmouth get over the line!

I think it's worth noting that if Fullah had played as much and performed as well as Fevrier, we'd be raving about him, talking about a £10m player and all that. Don't let your preconceived notions get in the way!

There is a 3/4 year difference between them, that’s not a preconceived notion but a massive factor in value

I'd like us to sign him

Am I  right that he has scored the last 2 goals we've scored up the Covered End (Pompey and yesterday)?

We don't want 'squad players' when the current starters are likely to be the ones that need to be squad players.
And which current contracted player becomes the squad player at RWB?
    Asiimwe
The squad player for L1 relegation battlers Wimbledon? Be serious. I'd love Asiimwe to be a squad player for us but he's nowhere near ready for that
The 21 year old that has just had 34 games in League One and started the majority of those games.

If you want to look at things like that; Fevrier was a bench player in League One.
He’s been fit the entirety of the season so the fact Jackson hasn’t used him from the bench in 11 of those games and I get players need a rest every once in a while but add those 8 bench appearances that’s 19/45 games where he’s not been in the starting XI.

In the last 30 L1 games he’s only played 6 games past 75 mins as well. That’s for a bottom team in L1.

Like Asiimwe but it shouldn’t even be a question him being in the squad next season ideally needs another loan higher up the L1 table.

I asked Jacko about Asiiimwe the other week and he said he’s done ok but lacks consistency
Bloke in work goes to the odd Wimbledon game as he lives local.

He liked the look of Asiimwe at the start of the season. But his assessment now is "slow and can't defend".

He’s a battler, not a bottler. He has a go and he keeps on going. He is also determined and persistent with his tackling. More importantly, like we had last season with Small on one wing and TC on the other wing, with TC he brings width to our game and makes a more fluid attack possible. Defending against those two stretching the width of our game stops the opposition attack pushing up, which in turn as we well know from experience pulls their midfield back and basically slows down the frequency of our goal being peppered with shots. I suspect Nathan already knew that when he brought him in. All he needed was a bit more game time. I’d sign him if it is an option

What I do like is when it doesn't come off his head doesn't drop and he keeps at it. He may or may not make it as a consistent Championship player, I very much doubt he'll go much higher than that but he does seem to have the character that Jones values.

Think he's worth signing to play in a 4-2-3-1 or to provide wingback cover on the bench, either way I could see a place for him in either system we might play. Well worth looking to make permanent if we can.

That wasn't the point being made and actually defends something that doesn't need defending. Like a Harry Clarke header before HT!

Blimey yeah you are correct. Over 2 months between home goals scored at that end of the pitch.

    During that spell

    0-1 v Wrexham
1-0 v Birmingham (Kelman 74’ but they turned us around)
    0-1 v Norwich
    1-2 v Bristol City (Dykes 30’)
    1-2 v Preston (Rankin-Costello 18’)
    1-2 v Ipswich (Docherty 1’)

The only other time we’ve scored at both ends of the Valley in the league this season was against Blackburn in September.

I think he would be a nice reserve given his versatility but it all comes down to what our budget is and how much will Stockport be asking for.  400k - probably going rate for a decent reserve in the championship, might be worth but probably not any more than that.

If we offered 400k for Stockport’s 6th/7th choice attacker they’re going to think we’re even bigger muppets than when we spent 1.5M for Tanto.

Considering he's done ok for us in the league above, would Stockport even want to sell him?

They also might come up through the play offs, in which case would probably want to keep him.

    Fair question?

James Bree went from not being wanted to being a regular player in the rampant Saints side who are pushing for Promotion and went so close to beating City at Wembley.

We don't have a lot of Flair players ! and I would do everything to get Haydon Fevrier in our squad for next season.

He really wouldn't be a reserve, he would be a game changer from the bench, plus has a great attitude. Yes, you would get the odd bad corner or hitting the corner flag with a shot but blimey his winning goal on Saturday totally changed the Narrative and mood of CL and the Valley crowd.

At 23 and as long as he is allowed to express himself he could be a vital part of the 16 players who can impact a match.

    It's a yes from me.

    Refreshingly positive player

The way he battled on in tackles and attacked on Saturday was reminiscent of Johnny Robinson like determination

It's a great bit of scouting to pull someone off of Stockport's bench who comes and does a decent job for us.

Between that, a couple of smart loans and digging Sichenje out of the Slovakian league there's reason to hope we've got a decent scouting system in place again.

Reticent to give them too much credit there, it definitely sounded like he was a bit of a makeweight so that Stockport could afford Tanto

Honestly think our January window must have been one of the best in the EFL. January windows are very difficult to do well in but we signed 6 players and you could say all have been successes. Without that window being so good we’d have gone down

mixture of both a good find, and I believe hard work with him on the training ground. No surprise he has got better as the season has progressed. Passes the no w⚓ test as well.
Worth a punt if the price is right, I think he fits in well with the group.

A great goal and performance at the weekend. I was mostly nonplussed by him until the last couple of games. It's been nice to see a player willing to take a risk and be positive with the ball. Most importantly (for me), the versatility he offers is a huge positive.

I think we need a player matching his profile. I think he has shown enough to suggest he can perform at this level and at 23 there's every chance he can improve. He's not the finished article but is a player I'd be willing to take a punt on - especially if the work rate and effort he showed sticks around (and wasn't just to try and get a move).

Identifying players who can play multiple roles is so important; a lot of successful teams (across sports) will have 'utility' players who are comfortable playing different positions. It helps with squad building (i.e. saves you a slot), but also allows you to play a more flexible style, and gives you in-game tactical optionality.

To add further, his goal today showed he fancies taking hold of situations. I've also rewatched Kelman's goal and he belts forward to support. He does all the right things, even if he has an odd running style!
Massive difference when Kelman gets balls in the channels that Gary Nelson used to thrive on.

Given the fact he is only 23 and will improve and can play across quite a lot of positions, I think a swap deal with tanto is a no brainer of we can get it done. If we didn't know he was on loan from Stockport and he had performed like he did for the last couple of games, everyone would be clambering saying we should sign him of he is available for 1.5mil (what we paid for Tanto)

Only issue with a Tanto swap deal is according to Stockport fans he’s been dreadful and they don’t actually want him back permanently.

And if we offered a swap we’re either saying Fevrier is a 1.5M player which I can’t see happening or admitting we think our value of Tanto has dropped massively and also doesn’t provide us with funds if there is someone Jones wants instead of Fevrier
