I think he's the right style of player to go for but it shouldn't be him

Agreed, there's been enough about him that you can see why bringing him in made sense, but not enough of it often enough to say that it really worked as we would have wanted. In many ways him being on loan worked out well as we can say thanks but no thanks and move on in summer.

And to say to players "Look, we want you to be a better version of him. You can see how it worked with Thierry Small and we can make it work for you"

Sign new starters with current starters becoming squad players should generally be the way.
    You're replacing Lloyd Jones???!!!

If we have an opportunity to sign someone better and within budget, why not? Imagine how good our defence would be if we had an upgrade on Lloydy playing in it next season.

Admittedly, it is extremely unlikely we'll be able to afford and attract someone better than Lloyd Jones (next season at least) but no one should be totally safe in their position and, if it happened, it'd be up to Lloydy to fight for his place, which might make him into an even better player.

The point is, to progress year on year, you need to try sell/release the weakest players in your squad, sign players that are as good or better than your best players, and demote the "better" players that you've signed upgrades for to squad roles.

Upgrading Lloyd jones wouldn't be a priority as he's probably alpha dog in the team right now, but that doesn't mean you rule out the possibility of doing it if the chance to do so arises.

What we don't need to do is take a temporary loanee like Fevrier, who is a mediocre squad player. and sign him so he becomes a permanent mediocre squad player.

Can’t fault his effort for us, possibly not quite good enough at the level, but not let himself down and done a few nice bits. Will get a warm applause from me when he goes back.

Not good enough for where we want to go but can’t fault his effort or attitude so will wish him the best when he does go

I think he has done a job. probably the job he was brought in for.

I think as suggested, it has been an informative loan spell. Nathan has long stated that he wants players in for the long term project, however, there were a few hit and miss permanent signings last summer, and had they been loans, I doubt we'd have spent the big money on them, or tied them down to deals.

Clearly if a player has a good loan at Championship level, then there is a risk that his value goes higher still and he gets pinched by a club with more money than us (signing on fee / wages), which is most other clubs in the Championship finance table.

It'll be interesting to see what plan Nathan has for the squad this summer.

Not as quick as I thought he would be, and I suspect that'll be the reason we'll pass on him

Apter could have done what he has done , I.e come on when we are losing for the last few minutes .

Remember it was Apter who wanted to go out on loan to get more game time, and not come on for the last few minutes of games.

Fevrier has also come on when we’ve been winning or drawing games to help see them out. He’s better than Apter is defensively

The main thing though is Fevrier is happy to be a sub at championship level, Apter obviously wasn’t so keeping him around would have probably had a negative effect

Even as a second choice/squad player we can do better, and we need to.

He probably is as quick as you thought, it's just everyone he's up against in this division* is generally also a bit quicker so he doesn't look that quick relatively speaking.

(*obviously I'm not including our own midfield in this!)

In terms of his character and effort I can see why but if this is standard of footballer we’re aiming for we’d be in big trouble next year, this was a player not even wanted by a team in a division below us

He was probably a square peg in a round hole where he was and I think he could be a lot better than people are  giving him credit for, he just needs a bit more game time. A goal wouldn't hurt either.

But what we really need is a round peg that actually fits the round hole. He's done decent service as a makeshift temporary fix, but giving out permanent contracts on the basis "he'll do alright" is not going to make us a genuine Championship side.
