”2-0 loss to Charlton at home is about as bad as it gets in terms of one off results I am afraid

The performance was an improvement and the sending off was a massive problem I do admit, but then I say again, Charlton, at home, not exactly the most testing fixture on the fixtures list is it, and we have nothing to show for it.”

    Cheeky gits -

I still remember sending them down years ago -

I think JJ dominated on the left wing.

    2-0 I think.
I feel like Leicester are a team who do us a favour when we need it. I remember in the first Powell season we got our first win off them and then a huge away win when we were looking over our shoulders at relegation again that same season. I think they were our first win the following season as well.
This is true, except for Nathan Prior-

It was an instinctive goal. He’s a professional footballer. They do have the ability to do something like that instinctively. It’s called muscle memory.
  • So, changing the subject a bit, does anyone reckon Dykes goal was a fluke...😂
    Sod Carey and Dykes.
Was the penalty save from Kaminski a fluke?

So, the big question yet to be answered: did Carey mean that first touch? Cos if he did, that's one of the best goals by a Charlton player...ever?
Similar to one of Mendonca’s goals at Wembley.
Mendonca was a different league. He absolutely meant his.

Two wonderful goals from the Ginger Man and Dick Van Dykes in particular.
    Bravo!
All those saying there was nothing wrong with the first “goal“ are absolutely right. Shocking decision by the assistant referee.  Not the ref’s fault as he can’t see what’s happening.
I should forget it seeing as we won the game but the incompetence of the officials is still irritating me. The pen was very soft too. I honestly thought refs would be a step up this season but they are on the whole just as bad. It isn't good enough.

Obviously agree on the goal, absolute joke that was disallowed. Watching it back, it's superb acting from there keeper, who has his arms stretched out while on his back, to look like he was pushed. Ridiculous from officials.

The penalty, if that's us attacking, I'd want a penalty for it too. It's smart play from there player getting that side of Bell as he moved past. The actual penalty was hilarious for such an experienced and expensive player.
  • NJ said it right (and a few previous posters) Leicester are not in good form BUT they have top quality players. Their problem all season, and the reason they are down the table, is that they have a squad filled with individual stars, but they are not playing as a team. They can individually do something very special. Yesterday we played as a team, and we fought for the points. As a squad we are nowhere near most of the championship, but that doesn't always matter.

Club size is irrelevant, just look at Bournemouth and Brentford. Not established premier league sides. The football landscape is changing. Whoever invests wisely can have success, if the luck rolls their way. If we can crawl to the summer, staying in the championship , maybe NJ will encourage the owners to continue to support and trust him.

His interview is so him. It is clear that he lives and breathes the club. As he points out, his whole family is invested in Charlton, such is the effort required to manage at a football club.

I love his passion, and how he hurts when we are hurting. It ensures that whatever happens he has only one priority / agenda / objective, and that is Charlton succeeding, however that can be achieved. Win ugly, win against 10 men, win with journeymen and youngsters, play dull football, slow the game down, but win at all cost
  • What was the Dykes song yesterday btw? Couldn’t make out all the words

If Leaburn isn't fit i'd like to see Kelman start with Dykes vs QPR. Both former players and will hopefully have the bits between their teeth

The sending off showed how important it is have someone on the halfway line at all times.
Agreed. Even more so against 10 (or 9) men. The more players left upfront the less players the attacking team can push forward.

An aside: why don't defending teams at corners have anyone on the posts anymore ?

Watching it live, I thought it was a penalty, and so did the people around me. The anger was at the defending, rather than the officials. The reaction of the Charlton players suggests they thought it was a penalty also.

Of course it isn't one of those "GBH" trips where it's 100% a penalty, but you'd expect that to be given 8 or 9 times out of 10.

Too busy wrestling with the attackers, if we had someone on the post last week, they wouldn't have scored their second.

Jordan Ayew missed a penalty for the first time in his senior club career against Charlton yesterday

    He’s previously scored 19 ✅
    One miss ❌

I reckon Carey tried to control it and it jumped up. He had the awareness to pick it up again quickly and finish superbly, but the pessimist in me thinks he probably didn’t mean to knock it over the defender.

I really don’t want to detract from what is technically a brilliant finish, but if he meant that it’s Messi levels of brilliance I reckon

Gazza against Colin Hendry in Euro 96.
My mate who sadly drowned at 15 had that in his locker every week. His trademark was getting a through ball, flicking it over the defender with the outside of his foot and volleying it goalwards. He used to execute it almost daily in our extended games. Captains with alternate picks.

RIP Bob Rendell. Played for 1st XI (18yo) at 15. I'm sure he'd have been EFL if not Prem. At 12 we played over the park until dark against grown men and he was the best player by a mile.

Watching various highlight packages on YouTube this morning and noticing how Coady after each major incident (goal, foul, sub) is getting in the ear of 3/4 players either geeing up or talking tactics.

Particularly after each goal he’s quick to get to both the scorer and assister to celebrate with them before going off to talk to one othe youngsters.

From yesterday it does seem he has a lot to offer beyond his obvious technical ability on the ball. Could be really valuable in the coming weeks
Had a random memory pop into my head from our last championship season. I think we played QPR at home in an evening game and Pratley scored from a corner?

I remember reading a blog from a QPR fan that described Pratley as deciding he was gonna ref the game from the moment the teams walked out and that the ref was happy to let him do it.

I can see similar comments coming about Coady. Its what you need when you're in a battle and it's actually helpful of it doesn't come from the captain.
Late to the party as always so possibly this has all been covered previously. I'd never even heard of Coady to be honest, let alone seen him play but doing a bit of research I think we've signed exactly what was needed. Some one who's been there (10 England caps) seen it & done it, is a real leader, a talker & will encourage especially the younger players. As others have said, a Jorge Costa, a Pratley & I'll add an Andy Hughes. His legs have gone ? So he's a link to sit between the back 3 & the midfield, could be one of NJs best signings.

Didn't the tv commentator say that the linesman didn't flag & the ref saw an infringement ?

Simply, we had a proper defence for the first time in months. Our problems have been very straightforward. Three good centre backs and two proper wingbacks fixed it. Now also clear that our midfield is a huge problem with none of them capable of making a decent forward pass, partly why we were on the back foot for a lot of the second half
Four more wins will keep us up
At one point towards the end of the game Docherty picked up the ball just outside our penalty area & strode into acres of space. He kept going and going and going and then gave it away which lead to another Leicester attack. He had time to play it out wide but just didn't know what to do with it.
    Have a day off
I really have no idea what you have against me. I made a positive post earlier about how I thought the team did well & then replied to someones post about Dochety.

It's getting to look I little bit like bullying to me, unless I see you pick on the other dozens of posts picking up on something that went on during the match

    Just lay off will you.
    Just ignore him/her.

I agree, whilst I thought it was soft, a lot of refs would give the pen. But I always thought the ref had to see something to give it, Kitchen has showed that to be wrong with our disallowed goal. I hope he and his assistant have to explain themselves.
