MATCH PREVIEW: West Bromwich Albion vs. Charlton Athletic - Tuesday 24th February 2026 - 7:45pm KO

West Bromwich Albion vs. Charlton Athletic
Tuesday 24th February 2026 - 7:45pm Kick-Off
Referee: Samuel Allison

Introduction
Charlton bounced back from the midweek defeat at the hands of Portsmouth with a bit of a defensive masterclass on the weekend - Despite the gulf in both ability and valuation, Southampton would only manage to breach the Addicks defence on the sole occasion; Sonny Carey with the equaliser to put the Addicks one point closer to safety, and keep the gap between us and the bottom three, at seven points.

The Opposition
Name: West Bromwich Albion (21st) - Manager: Erik Ramsay
Ground: The Hawthorns
Previous League Result: West Brom 0-2 Coventry

The Addicks complete the double header on the road this coming Tuesday night, with a trip to the Midlands, with struggling West Bromwich Albion awaiting our arrival.

After all its not been the best of seasons for the Baggies, they travelled to SE7 in November having picked up just a solitary point from the previous three games, even that came from a 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday, so the cracks were already beginning to appear, and Ryan Mason's reputation as Manager wasn't helped when Sonny Carey blasted home a 95th minute winner. Albion though persisted with Mason until the New Year, they picked up 10-pts after their trip to the Valley and at that time, sat in 18th with 31-pts.

Erik Ramsay was the man chosen to take over, he'd clearly impressed enough as Minnesota United Manager in the MLS, and came with similar coaching pedigree to Kieran McKenna at Ipswich, having spent time as part of the Man Utd coaching staff under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - The Championship is perhaps the toughest League in the world, and the worst place to jump in, is with a club already struggling... West Brom have picked up just three draws under his guidance, and have scored just three goals, in two matches... Its not surprising to hear that Ramsay might not last much longer in the Black Country.

In terms of head2head and Charlton have 18-wins to West Brom's 17-wins - Our last win at the Hawthorns came three fixtures ago in 2005, with Danny Murphy scoring a brace... The last time we did the double over the Baggies was in 2002/03, with both games ending 1-0 to the Addicks, goals coming from Kevin Lisbie and Shaun Bartlett on those occasions.

Charlton Team News
Kenyans were over joyed ahead of the Southampton game when they saw that Collins Sichenje was finally given his debut for the Addicks, the Centre-Back has had to bide his time since joining from Serbian outfit: X, and whilst he had some difficult moments, understandable against one of the best attackers in the Division, it was a solid debut. His involvement saw Kayne Ramsay deployed at Right Wing-Back, with Harry Clarke dropping to the bench.

Given the nature of the performance at St. Mary's you could easily see an unchanged eleven this coming Tuesday

Kaminski
Sichenje - Jones - Bell
Ramsay - Coady - Docherty - Chambers
Carey
Campbell - Dykes

Substitutes: Mannion - Clarke - Gillesphey - Costello - Berry - Coventry - Kelman - Leaburn - Fevrier

Just putting it out there now, but don't immediately expect a Match Preview from me for the Wrexham game
I've got Surgery to remove a Hernia on Wednesday, so will all depend on how I'm feeling come Thursday / Friday
I'll pick this up if you want @ForeverAddickted. Won't be the same level of quality I'm sure but I should be able to put something somewhat cohesive together.

Makes sense, was wondering why he has such a big following on there

    Excellent preview as always FA
Hope all goes well on Wednesday.
WBA are in a right mess at the moment and for me they will be the third team to go down alongside Wednesday and Oxford.
3 points tomorrow night and we give ourselves quite a bit of breathing space as we get closer to the 50 points target.
    3 1 Charlton.

Think it's a repeat of the stakes (hopefully not of the performance) vs Portsmouth, a please don't lose but a point probably OK. We aren't always the 'best versions of ourselves' when we play teams around us who might sit a bit deeper too, but I'm still expecting a strong showing given how poor West Brom's form is and that Jones will hopefully still have them working to right the wrongs of last week's game.

Agree we are likely to be mostly unchanged. Not sure TC keeps his place, he was only OK on Saturday and has generally been better off the bench. Right side of defence is a tough one - I think Clarke offers more of a threat going forward than Ramsay so would like to see him come back in. Don't have hugely strong feelings about who that leaves at RCB - Ramsay, Sichenje or even Burke back from injury.

Cheers mate, takes a weight off my shoulders actually knowing that I won't need to worry about it
  • Wednesday are relegated and assuming Oxford join them all we need to do is maintain the status quo with teams below us. Essential that we don’t lose this one. A win would be fantastic of course but we can’t afford to let WBA gain ground on us and revitalise their season. Don’t lose.

Our ability to produce absolute pony performances, has tempered my expectations with this one.

If NJ and the lads can conjure up any consistancy, then I am hopeful for a point and the slow crawl to safety continues in a Charlton stylee!

    1-1

I'm hopeful that we're playing West Brom at the right time and our match will be the last poor performance of a miserable period, and that Ramsay will be swiftly sacked come 1030pm Tuesday.

It will be interesting to see how much Saturday took out of the players. Sichenje was cramping up and a short recovery time would lead me to think he will drop out for Clarke, with Ramsay shifting back to RCB. If we weren't playing Wrexham on Saturday I would've thought that Coady may be due a rest, but it probably doesn't make sense to do so with that being enforced at the weekend.

I can see the appeal of going with Leaburn and Dykes. Partly based off Leaburn's cameo at the weekend, but also West Brom's limited options at CB. If they have to go with Charlie Taylor in the middle this could be a good aerial target for us, but reports suggest they may bring Nat Phillips back. However, that partnership was so bad first half v Pompey that I would stick with TC alongside Dykes. Especially since it seems that West Brom have been having issues on their right hand side of late, it could be a good chance for TC. Leaburn to be an option around the hour mark.

So, for me, Clarke in for Sichenje with the rest unchanged barring any unknown injuries or fatigue-related issues.

As with every single one of our games the first goal is crucial. If we can get it and create unrest in the stadium then I back us to see it out. At least we have displayed at the weekend that we have the ability to drag ourselves back into games, even with limited opportunities.

    West Brom 0-2 Charlton

as others have said its a must not lose, we had one of these last week and turned out to be a shambles, think we got away with 1 Saturday and a similar performance will result in a west brom win.

therefor hopefully we turn up and go at them from the off get an early goal and then kick on from there.

    Charlton to win 2-1
  • West Brom will be targeting this as a must win. The manager, players and fans will know it. Albion have not been in good form but although not last chance saloon it will be a massive game for them. Question is, can they lift themselves or will they be very nervous. Crowd will be up for it and if Charlton start well it could easily turn. We really need to be right on it this game.
  • It's a big week for West Brom with Charlton and Oxford as their next two opponents. If they beat us, they will be back in the pack and fancying their chance of getting something at Oxford. Three points and we will look much more comfortable. I just hope we start well and get a goal ahead, as it makes the chances of coming home with at least a point much greater. Fingers crossed.

    Another ‘Six Pointer’!

Massive Opportunity to give ourselves a little bit more breathing space with tougher fixtures around the corner.

All you've got to do is mention Ryan Reynolds and the other chap who no-one remembers, Hollywood, 27 promotions in 13 season or some guff like that and you'll be sorted.

It's all you'd get anywhere else. No-one else would bother mentioning that their manager was in charge of us when we went down to the Third Division for the first time in over a generation ...

Every time I think we will win, we do the opposite.

Pleading the 5th on this game.

All I hope is we play and defend like Saturday.
