Will Still would be a terrible appointment given their situation
I see a few saying they’ll be happy with a draw/take a point. It wouldn’t be the end of the world, but for those that do, who do they view as the games we need/should be winning if it’s not this one3 -

Bite your hand off for a dull 0-01

The rose tinted glasses wearers will say when it's almost too late & needing to win 3 out of our last 3 games.cabbles said:Will Still would be a terrible appointment given their situation

Any home game is winnable for us. According to the bookies we’ve got more chance of beating Wrexham on Saturday than we do winning tonight. We’ve only won 3 away games all season, not easy for us to win anywhere away at this levelcabbles said:Will Still would be a terrible appointment given their situation

Draw tonight is a good result. Still plenty of games left for us to win if we don’t win tonight5 -
Hope all goes well for Wednesday @ForeverAddickted...
As far as the game goes, feel we should be in great spirit after Saturday's good point at St Mary's, and for that reason I am going for a hard fought three points, maybe by the odd goal 0-1 or 1-2, we really can't afford to lose tonight against a team regarded as a prime candidate for the drop...and we're wearing RED, so COYR.1 -
Talking of MUST WIN. I've noticed Braziliance has disappeared. Able to read an eclectic set of views atm!4

Don’t feel confident about this one, mind, I never do when Charlton are playing!
Those who think we may score 2 or 3, I admire your optimism, considering it’s hard enough for Charlton to score 1!
If anyone needs me between KO and Full Time, I’ll be behind the sofa.
Ps. Hope the op goes well.4 -
I think we are going to lose this one. 2-01

I never really know how games will go with us but we're very resilient away from home. I don't think anyone would have picked our away wins to be Sheff Utd, Ipswich and Leicester at the start of the season and we've managed to come away with something from Birmingham, Bristol City, Derby, Hull and Southampton where I think a lot of people thought we wouldn't. It would be really great to win this and go 9 points clear of West Brom (though they'd then sack their manager and possibly improve massively) but it's so, so important we don't lose. A win would see us needing to beat Sheff Weds and then probably need about 2-6 points at an absolute maximum to be safe. Losing would put them within 3 points so I will take a draw if that's what looks like being on offer5

When in a relegation battle, in my opinion :SoundAsa£ said:It simply depends on how much reality one puts upon the phrase “must win game”…..it’s a term fans of all sports will use to describe a very important game.
If we lose tonight yes it will be a hefty blow but by no means implies that we will be relegated.
It’s just a way of expressing it’s importance by using the phrase but in most cases by no means wholly accurate.
'Must win' = lose and relegation is virtually a nailed on certainty. Win and your still in the shit but have a chance.
'6 pointer' = lose and you've not only shot yourself in the foot but you've given a direct rival a lift up. Win and you've really taken the pressure off.
I'd put tonight down as a 6 pointer, as the game against Pompey was. When Lennie Lawrence was manager, the second half of a season had lots of 6 pointers and the last 5 were must win games. We're far from comfortable but hardly on a tightrope yet.

So if we lose to West Brom, but Sheffield Wednesday beat West Brom the Massives can still stay up?swords_alive said:Interesting argument. Perhaps you're all relying on the league table as some kind of fixed reality when in fact it's just a social construct being misinterpreted. What we actually need to be concerned with is getting a better result at West brom than other (current) relegation rivals;
So, Oxford and blacburn both lost there.
Portsmouth and Leicester drew.
So it would be a massive 3 points if we got them. And it's almost a free hit as no-one else got more than a point there anyway. Feels better looking at it more objectively doesn't it.
Seeing as the league table is irrelevant.2 -

How will we know the way things really are without him telling us though?

I'm not always onboard with the light trolling of swords_alive but I've got to admit that 'the league table is just a social construct' is a good bit.swords_alive said:Interesting argument. I wish I had a sofa to hide behind, but I've already gifted it to the museumTheHerminator said:The Baggies being bang out of from makes me more nervous for some reason than if we were playing a side who had middling form recently.
I don't know why, but I suspect it's my potentially incorrect assumption??? that we seem to turn up more in games we're not expected to get anything from. NJ sides don't do well when favourites do they?
Oh I don't know. Hiding behind the sofa this evening breathing in to a paper bag0 -
I'm not going to get bogged down in the semantics of defining a 'must win', but it is obvious that this is one of our best opportunities for a win for the rest of the season even though it is away from home.
The added bonus of winning is that it would bring us three points closer to avoiding the biweekly debates over what a 'must win' game is for the next few months... here's hoping.1 -
Don’t see a problem with someone having they’re own views, everyone else does on here, certain people just tend to pile on to a particular poster.if you don’t like a certain poster don’t read the post. I could mention half a dozen people disagree with me with the lol of derision, that’s before they’ve even read my post!!😂_uptheaddicks said:Talking of MUST WIN. Why would you two both make a dig at someone on the Match Thread when he’s not even posted on it?TheHerminator said:_uptheaddicks said:Talking of MUST WIN. I've noticed Braziliance has disappeared. Able to read an eclectic set of views atm!

Has anyone found a country with a stream yet?
If so, please advise0 -
Given we've won nearly half our home games (7/16) and won three from 15 away, I'm looking at Norwich, Preston, Bristol City and Hull all as very winnable and no reason we can't beat either Wrexham or Birmingham.cabbles said:Will Still would be a terrible appointment given their situation

Looking doubtful so far for a VPN tonight, been doing some checking and can't find a country to fly to yet...that is unless someone out there has heard different of course...🤔0
-
Go for the needed wins asap.
Will obviously make it much easier for ourselves.0 -
I watched the Baggies play Cov on Saturday, they came out of the traps quickly and had the majority of the first five minutes until Coventry scored.
Any confidence they had quickly dissolved and they were barely a threat after that.
A repeat would be nice tonight.
