Not sure how realistic this one would be, but I’d absolutely be asking the question about Omari Kellyman on a season loan from Chelsea. Move across London, championship football, Chelsea loanees tend to do well in their development with Charlton.
After Gallagher, I would be very wary of taking a loaned from Chelsea. We could end up relying on him for our system, and he get's recalled.

There ard better clubs to get loans from. The Chelsea loan system is just a business to them.
True although 3 of the loans from Chelsea were excellent .

    Juan Castillo though 😆😆
  • Palace, as much as I hate them, have always treated us very well with loanees.

Williams, Iniss, and particularly JRS. Who they could have recalled in January, and sent him out to a Championship club. But they didn't.

I don’t think Williams or Innis were loanees. Only JRS

We were in a complete mess back then, incomparable to now.

I think he might land higher up the championship, I think Birmingham has been mentioned. If he drops down to the lower half of the league then I think Cardiff are probably favourites

Would definitely fit what we need though

Neither of those two were loans, however they did release both of them early from their contracts to allow them to sign for us permanently which they didn’t need to do.

Think Chelsea wanted us to pay a further loan fee which we couldn’t. Confirms the comment above that it’s just a business for them
  • Just as we aren’t the same organisation as then, Chelsea aren’t either. Other than for sales I can’t remember them recalling loanees to change clubs recently

  • Jones is not very good in a two, and I'd be surprised if he is a starter for us when the season ends.
8 lols but it isn't the wildest take, and I am one of Lloyd Jones biggest fans.

Jones best football has come from when he is the central centre back in a 3 and his strengths come from stepping up and winning headers. All his bad games have been against strikers and teams who keep it on the deck and he has ground duels with and they try and turn him. Blackburn away, Southampton at home and Wrexham away all spring to mind for me.

My concern without Ramsay to his right is that if he steps up and it goes wrong, only Koumetio looks to have the recovery pace to make up for it. In the back 5 he had more room for error, in a back 4 it will be less forgiving with his lack of pace.

He is excellent at what he does and genuinely could be one of the best centre backs in this country at winning headers, but it isn't an insane take that he could struggle in a back 4.

Hopefully Nathan has prepared for this and sets us up in a way that won't allow us to get punished if Jones does make his rare mistakes.

Wouldn’t be such an issue if we had a goalkeeper comfortable coming off his line to close down an attacker. Only time I remember Kaminski doing that was against Watford and he was lucky not to give away a pen
  • All this nonsense about Jones can't do it in a 2...

You are aware we've had him longer than NJ? And was already looking the best CB in the club. Unless I'm missing something about Hector...

Harvey and Floyd were better options at CB than Hector

If you remember when he first came in, he had a dreadful game (I forget against who) made a couple of howlers and had to be taken out of the team for a while as his confidence was shot.

At the time it was impossible to see the potential he had and the player he's become.

This is partly why I'm reluctant to write off Apter. Confidence is a massive part of a player's overall skillset, and when he went to Bolton and didn't make an impact his confidence was totally shot.

Jones had the same with us to start with, and went on to be comfortably our best player.

It was more to do with the owners .. Chelsea did not want to do business with a Sheikh so recalled him
Should probably delete that unless you can provide the proof for it.

Yeah I had a bit of a naive view that Kaminski & Mannion were solid enough options for a season of Championship football, very wrong.

We do need a decent goalkeeper, especially with how often we will likely concede chances. Have to hope if Kaminski goes we have a Prem goalie lined up for a loan or willing to spend a fee on one. I have a dream where we extend TCs contract and go and buy Iversen from Preston, make up for them taking Bauer, Small and trying to take TC 😂

You are missing something. He really wasn’t great when he came in
He came out the team after dropping a clanger that led to an equaliser away at Blackpool whilst Curtis was in charge and just before NJ joined. He barely looked half the player he now is under his management.

  • Perhaps the formation change is looking to a life post LJ?

Correct. He flourished in a 3, and no wonder, he is custom made for being at the centre of a 3 with 2 pacey CBs either side.

If i remember correctly, he was beaten in the POTY stakes by Terrel Thomas in the year before he got good!

To be fair to him he has stepped up his game when he’s had to, hopefully he does it again, I think having Kemetio next to him may be a good thing.
Obviously I’m no tactician but I honestly don’t understand why players can’t play in different formations, it’s not rocket science or is it?

    Just asking.

He very much CAN play in different formations but hes just not as good. The things he does well work better with him being the middle of three defenders rather than the right of two.
Most players at this level are in the same boat - perfectly able to do different things but with limitations that certain formations expose more than others.

Different players have differing attributes that suit certain roles and positions better.

For example as is above Jones is superb in the air but isn't a runner Kayne is the opposite therefore together their skillsets mesh perfectly and cover each other weaknesses.

For me football has always been about partnerships be that a front two or a full back and winger.

Callum McCowatt, New Zealand World Cup winger.

Different formations effectively means different positions
  • Interesting to read the comments that Okonkwo isn't what we need. He sounds like the perfect NJ project to me - already an improvement on what we have, aerially dominant, young for a keeper so plenty of room for improvement and from a good background, coming from Arsenal's academy.
  • I think transfer window wise, for us , it will be quiet this week.

Can see it hotting up in the last week of the window, with loans in, and out.

Will be surprised if any of our signings are for a transfer fee.
