Nothing I’ve seen so far makes me think that Sichenje is cut out for the riggers of Championship football. I really do hope he goes on to prove me wrong .NabySarr said:
Yes we do defend our box a lot more than other teams, and Jones is one of the best in the championship at that.Callumcafc said:
Understanding that it’s not as simple but are we not the small fish in the Championship that Cambridge were in League One?NabySarr said:
It very much depends on style though. Jones would be absolutely fine in a 4 for a team that defends deeper.Callumcafc said:Pretty certain feedback from Cambridge fans was that LJ in a 2 was better than LJ in a 3.
I’m not going to hold pre season rustiness against him. Let’s see how it goes if we line up with a back four against Derby. His performances over the last two years have earned him the right to have a proper crack at it at Championship level. The way we play though is a lot more aggressive without the ball than Cambridge, so he’s more likely to be caught out with a ball down the side of him than he would be in a 4 at Cambridge
I think generally he will be fine in a 4, especially as I can’t see our right back being too attacking whether it’s Ramsay or McNamara so the risk will be reducedWhether we want to press or not, we will be expected to defend our box far more often than some other teams this season, by nature of being a smaller fish and having less of the ball.We still will want to be very aggressive without the ball at times, leaving big spaces behind our back line. I think we went away from that in the second half of last season, but we will definitely want to return to that now
It’s a shame Sichenje hasn’t really had a pre-season, I’d be more confident with him at right back if we are missing Ramsay. That recovery pace is a big miss0 -
Which has already crumbling bricks . Let’s hope we can do a good restoration jobShootersHillGuru said:

Does anybody know how the squad registration works? Do we have to register 25 players before this Saturday or when the transfer window closes?
Once registered how easy is to swap individual players in or out?2 -
No one said anything about rigours. It is the riggers Bedsaddick is worried about. Nasty creatures.ShootersHillGuru said:

Once registered how easy is to swap individual players in or out?Players have to be registered before the derby game but it’s a flexible registration period till the end of the window. So we can register 25 players now and then swap them in and out but after the window we have to register a set 25 which can’t change10 -
24 hours after the window closes we have to name our 25 over 21 YO players.Southbank said:Does anybody know how the squad registration works? Do we have to register 25 players before this Saturday or when the transfer window closes?

Don't think you can swap, other than in emergencies, until January.5 -
It's based on when I've seen him play. Fair enough if Wrexham fans have concerns but I wouldn't take that as gospel. If you asked some Charlton fans they would say that TC is "lazy and league 1 at best" and Leaburn "never wins a header".LTKapal said:crookester said:Interesting to read the comments that Okonkwo isn't what we need. He sounds like the perfect NJ project to me - already an improvement on what we have, aerially dominant, young for a keeper so plenty of room for improvement and from a good background, coming from Arsenal's academy.Have you read anything about him? One of the main concerns of Wrexham fans is his lack of aerial dominance and concentration under pressure. I’m highly sceptical on improvement on what we have, I’d equate him to About the same as ours (upper L1 is his level ) and more to the point the rumour is he’s asked for more money do you really think we’d offer more money than Wrexham wages wise.1 -
Im not saying you’re wrong or right I’m aware he had a good game against us especially the last meeting but football fans are prone to bigging up players who perform well against their own team and often look past the players performance over the whole season or seasons as a whole, that is where my caution is personally.crookester said:

Wouldn’t want Okonkwu personally. Got too many mistakes in him from when I’ve seen him play.11

Not played a league game and people are already talking about dropping our double winning player of the year.
I love this gaff.21 -

Here he is, ValleyGary! I make you right here though. We're already up against it so let's just drop our best defender. Mental.ValleyGary said:Not played a league game and people are already talking about dropping our double winning player of the year.

He's a centre half. Of course he can play there. Wasn't a problem for Michael Morrison, Patrick Bauer or Jason Pearce. So I don't see why Lloyd couldn't.AberystwythAddick said:

I wonder what the strategy is, I think we as fans maybe thought we might spend £3m+ on a midfielder, but I wonder whether NJ has looked the market and if Holsgrove (or whoever our preferred target was/is) did knock us back, then maybe he'd rather chance it with Chalobah and risky loan to fill the midfield roles rather than go down the route of signing £2m+ L1 midfielder. Lets face it we are not going to get a recognised Champ midfielder for £3m or even a decent European one (even if they are from a farmers league). Celtic are in the process of signing a midfielder from a Germany side for £4.5m + £2.5m of add-ons...yes that is Champions League football. But more on a commercial level I just don't think we'll be there for a few years.
We need to rely of selling some assets, like extend TC for another couple of years, if he does well, sell him for £5m. A bit like Watford have done with Irankunda.
Same might be said for the RW role, we have a player or two in mind, if unsuccessful, maybe just go with RW on loan.
I think NJ might chance it until Jan and revisit the loan market again. Its a gamble for sure as you can not guarantee a Coady, Dykes to a lesser extent Chambers and Clarke (but they were much needed reinforcements). Dykes was playing for a once in a lifetime World Cup place, so that skews it a little in terms of his enthusiasm.2 -

I love this gaff.Jones works better in a Three.
In a two his attributes and skill set are not used as effectively. That doesn’t mean he should be dropped, it just means he’s weaker in a two than a threeName other defends does nothing for your argument when you’re talking about a specific player.3 -

I do wonder if something under consideration is Coadying a CB (eg Sichenje or Koumetio) if we end up short in midfield at any pointNabySarr said:
Sichenje looks like he can play in a 2 but I also think his attributes are much better in a 3. One of his main strengths is how aggressive he is stepping out to win the ball, you can do that a lot more in a 3 than you can a 2Marriott110 said:Lloyd will and has absolutely earned his right to start in a 2,3,4,5,6,7 at the back, however we set up, but I think as others have said this change to a 4 does not play to his strengths as much as we did in a back 5 and I can't help but think we brought in Sichenje for a reason and not to be backup, and Koumeito and Collins on paper compliment eachother very well also
I do wonder if when we signed Sichenje the back 3 was still our long term plan, but since then after how things went at the end of last season, Jones has decided we needed to change1 -
It would be possible but then we are probably putting a lot of faith in Bell and Burke staying fit and available for depth at the back which isn't ideal.hermann said:

Or it was just a better team that he played in in a three.AberystwythAddick said:

Well we're not going to be playing in a 3 are we? So who would you'd rather have there then if he's not good enough to be in a 2 as your football knowledge clearly eclipses mineAberystwythAddick said:

Jones plays. But Nathan Jones won’t stick with 433 for the sake of it if we lose the first few gamesDDOUBLEE said:

Or the board have decided they don’t want to invest that much and NJ has to wheel and deal.dmccart32 said:I wonder what the strategy is, I think we as fans maybe thought we might spend £3m+ on a midfielder, but I wonder whether NJ has looked the market and if Holsgrove (or whoever our preferred target was/is) did knock us back, then maybe he'd rather chance it with Chalobah and risky loan to fill the midfield roles rather than go down the route of signing £2m+ L1 midfielder. Maybe Jones had cottoned on to the fact we need formation options and will switch depending on Home v. Away or to match up to opponent formation…seems silly to have only one rigid formation…5

Lloyd Jones isn't getting any younger bit as has been said, he has been our player of the season for two seasons running.1
