on a personal level where is he more likely to progress? Near friends and family, at a place where he is loved and playing alongside his best mate.Or in the armpit of Northern England, isolated from loved ones. He may make a bit more money but he’s probably not on the breadline right now.
this is one of those instances you want his representative to put the player first as opposed to the pound signs.
if we can incentivise him and revitalise him, he could very quickly be that £10m bracket again and that’s in everyone’s best interests2 -

The thing is though, absolutely every Championship keeper has at least one of these limitations and most PL ones do too. You will really struggle to find a fan of a team that doesn't have Alisson or David Raya who doesn't criticise one of those things. Goalkeeping in the modern game is partially reflex shot-stopping and partially reflex decision-making which is a completely different skill. It's impossible to always make the right decision coming out of goal or trying to take control of the box because you have so little time to make it. Kaminski gets a lot of grief for his decision-making in the box but Mannion plays a riskier game where he claims catches that relieve pressure but also comes for things that aren't on or drops catches under pressure. Most keepers at this level are poor with their feet as well, the best ones go up a level or are sufficiently poor shot-stoppers that they don't progress despite their technical skills (Gavin Bazunu is an example of this; leads the way with 74.1% successful pass percentage but also leads the way with his goals prevented score of -8.55 and no-one who isn't Russell Martin wants to keep him after dealing with a season of him). Chelsea have a keeper who makes incredible saves but was run out by Brighton because he wasn't good enough on the ball and spends most of his time testing his reflexes himself by giving the ball to the opposition every time he has it.ozaddick said:

He is 3rd choice of a championship club.
Incidentally, last season Mannion's successful pass percentage was 52.6% and his accurate long balls percentage was 39.3%. Kaminski's was 56.1% and 38.4%. Okonkwo's was 53.2% and 36.5%, so it's true there's not a huge difference there, though Mannion's is from a much smaller sample size given he only played 9 games. The season before that Mannion was at 53.1% and 31.5% though you might argue that's in a league where as a keeper you're probably under a little less pressure on the ball due to the quality of attacker, I don't know if that's truly the case. It puts them all roughly in the standard keeper accuracy at this level though. Okonkwo's goals prevented last season is at -2.09. Not super impressive but higher than Kaminski's -6.34. Mannion is at 1.87 but that's mostly padded by one very good Watford game which amounted to 1/9th of all his games in the league. The reality is at this stage in the window Okonkwo is probably the best keeper available; his contract is running out, he's third choice and he's on the market. He slightly underperformed last season but in his first Championship season after being a L2 player two seasons before so there's potential for improvement. I think he's a definite step up on Mannion6 -

It's not just the goals for me, it's the way he opens the game up and can bring the ball up the pitch. Even if he isn't finishing his chances, our lack of control at times in the middle can be saved if you get a player like Jes on the ball.elbiglad said:

Its Ok for Palace to say Burnley have bid £10 million (or whatever) and Charlton have only bid £4 million so you're going to Burnley. However, if JRS tells Palace I want to go to Charlton not Burnley and I am not going to sign for Burnley under any circumstance, there's not much Palace can do to make him move to Burnley. In fact, I'm not sure there is anything they can do.
So, who knows, if he really wants to come to Charlton, Palace maybe forced to accept a substantially smaller bid than is on offer elsewhere.

They can afford to offer more than us of course, but ultimately everyone has a price. There’s no way anyone would pay him £35k a week, even if they can. The point is the wage he can expect to command is in our ball park.SouthLincsAddick said:

I am just holding on to the hope that his preference would probably be London and familiar surroundings. Tyreece rejected triple his salary, so it's not completely bizarre to think Jes would take less (no pun) to be at a more favourable location.

And with 8th place up for grabs now to get in the playoffs doesn’t sound bad for a team with a great playoff record.Big budgets don’t always get promoted. Millwall made the playoffs last season it’s not beyond impossible we could make the playoffs ourselves within three seasons you can bet Jones believes it.0 -
