This obsession with Vinicius Jr is crazy.

    They're not joining, move on.
Poor banter. In all seriousness we would all love for JRS to join but we simply can’t afford him unless we sold TC for big money which won’t be happening now

With the greatest respect you’re likely in a career people can do for 30/40 years footballers get 15/20 at best and they don’t make that much as youngsters.

Average length of a player in the EFL's career is 8 years. That is not often 8 years at whatever is their highest level. That will normally include years in lower EFL divisions on their way up and on their way down.

Rak Sakyi will have been earning an absolute minimum £10K pw for 4 years already at Palace and is 23 and clearly talented.
Unless he gets an injury or chooses to give up he has an absolute minimum 7 years ahead of him earning good money.

Even if that was £10K pw (it will obviously be more) that would take his earnings to £5.5M gross.  More than many earn in a life time.

The point here though surely is that a football career can be ended in a second with a bad tackle or a twisted knee.

  • I think a lot of fans are excited about Rak Sakyi because with the new formation being more offensive and the players we have brought in so far, Edward’s coming back, Jones signing, a positive buzz is around the club. Signing Rak Sakyi completes a very positive summer and the missing piece. I hope it’s true but I fear we can’t compete with Burnley or the bigger sides, his average season at Stoke might put some teams off hopefully.

There is rumoured interest in Docherty. If, as seems likely, we won’t renew his contract next season then getting a fee now might be the best option. Especially if we now have to spend on a keeper which wasn’t expected.
The arguments for and against shifting Docherty out have been made ad nauseam, but I do not think getting a fee for him should influence the decision. It will only be nominal (100,000 pounds, if anything) and I would have thought giving him a free would help any interested club to meet his wage demands. That would be a better recognition of his service than the saccharine comments posted here.
I do not wish to sound rude or sarcastic but Charlton Athletic are a business and not a charity.

You can be as rude or sarcastic as you like. It's Charlton Life.

My post was in response to those saying we should keep such sub-standard players on, and have to refuse potentially better players to keep a slot for them, because they are cheerful in the dressing-room or sign kids' autograph books. They are the fans who want it run as a charity, not I.

I was saying it would be worth forgoing a modest transfer fee to get their wages off the books in an amicable manner, and free a slot for someone more valuable, such as a right-sided player or a midfield all-rounder to cover when Chalobah almost inevitably has to take a break.
  • I wonder if Solly March would be willing to join. Played under Nathan jones and scored when he was caretaker manager at Brighton

  • Okonkwo not in the Wrexham squad tonight

Imagine TC, Grant and JRS behind Godden
You would need to keep the ball in our opponent's half, because God help us if the ball enters ours, with three midfielders who cannot defend.

He's their third choice keeper so not that surprising. Before the Kaminski meltdown he would have been their equivalent of Brooks

Why would the club not have announced LJ new contract as soon as the media was done?
Because it’s a good news story to push out day before first home game
Exactly, that one was tied up a little while ago but there’s no pressure to announce a contract extension until it suits the club, spreading out good news helps placate fans in a transfer window.

Not exactly accurate that, guys made of 100 efl appearances.

Hugely insulting to compare him to Tiernan Brooks

It’s not the only one that’s been done and not announced btw…

Good player but his legs are made of breadsticks. We don’t need another sick note.

I'm certain it's TC based on NJs comments on Saturday
  • Away kit will be Ramsay and TC both front and centre, confirming both their new deals in the process.

You have clearly never played the game at any level. Such an absurd comment. We would literally be in League One if it wasn’t for Sonny Carey!

What? He is their equivalent of Brooks, in that he's not going to be named in the squad unless one of the first two is injured/ill/unavailable. I am genuinely worried by some people's reading comprehension.

  • Can definitely see it being us wanting to go down the loan route for him.
