Playing devils advocate a little bit here. We all know we currently have the nubers we need across the pitch (except arguably RW) Is it possible that we have enouhg "powder" for one player of quality who will take us up a level but arent dead set in which area of the pitch it comes. So possibly it could be that if JRS falls through we go back for Holsgrove. The only thing that changes is who we look to ship out. We can say if we dont get JRS then Apter as 4th choice winger is good enough and Holsgrove will take our midfield up another level so lets move on Doc and JRC.

    Just random speculation tbh.
You don't fly to England because a deal that's clearly going to go through might not go through

A player might fail the medical.
A medical technically isn’t to determine if a player is fit, it’s to determine how much insurance you pay

    Agreed.

I really think we do not need JRS. His record is not that great/overrated  and we have Godden, Leaburn, Grant, MBick and TC. Better to strengthen elsewhere.

    Charlton - League 1: 15 goals in 43 games

Sheff United: 7 goals in 34 games

Obscure Turkish team: 4 goals in 11 games

    Stoke: 2 goals in 15

    Overhyped IMHO

I very rarely comment... but what a silly post.
Made worse by the fact that he made an identical post on 19 August and loads of people pointed out that JWS is a winger and not a striker.
    who is JWS?
JWS is our plan B if we don’t get JRS. Hopefully an upgrade on JRC. I’m told plays similar to JFC. Just hope he doesn’t see it as one last payday like JFH.
Also heard we’re in for KFC as a finger licking back up

    Well...

It looks like Silvinho has signed for the Spuds in time to be included in the squad...

    And Rak-Sakyi hasn't...

    Sack the Board!
And you know that how? TC signed a contract over a week ago but we only found out today. JRS could have signed at midday, we wouldn’t know about it yet.

Those saying JRS is overhyped are, in my opinion, missing the non-footballing factors that have affected his loans. Being far from home, system, roles he was asked to play, starting vs bench etc.

Coming to us just feels like the right move for him. We are playing better football and the perfect system for him. Close to home and with lots of close friends in the squad. Manager who will get the best out of him, club making progress. Timing and everything about it just feels bang on.

Just because someone has got a different view doesn’t make them a troll.

It’s all about opinions and it’s good that people feel comfortable and confident enough to express that even if it differs from the consensus view.

Challenge it, debate it, but we shouldn’t be trying to suppress it.  That’s not how forums work effectively.

Havent a clue if JRS has got minutes into him in pre season or not.......... cant see him being involved tomorrow, but depending on fitness, could he be on the bench on Saturday?

EDIT - Can see he has featured in pre season games for Palace, so would think he will be on the bench for Preston.

Played a couple of their early ones when they didn't have all their players back from the World Cup , not really featured recently as far as I can tell. Probably good for a bench cameo Saturday.

Unless the deal was done by midday, we won't see him play until the weekend i believe

You missed JBG. We never did sign JCH, but maybe we’ll sign JWP one day. JCR never did break through and make the impact that JRS did in his first spell.

NJ “Last year, as was zzz, we had probably the second lowest budget. With the teams that have come up now and the investment that is goinzg on, we won’t be too dissimilar to that [again].

GC “We want to move the wage bill up towards the third quartile. Whether we will be bottom of the third quartile or top of the fourth quartile, I don’t know. We were second or third lowest wage bill last season.”

    Which is it??
I only have a vague memory of this but don’t EFL clubs anonymously submit their player budgets so they can work out where they sit compared to the rest of the league? If I’ve not completely imagined that then perhaps GC made those comments before the results are back or is holding back.
Both of those quotes were made this week regarding our budget
That's it! Keep searching for something to beat the club up with...

Why are so many so called 'supporters' constantly looking for something to moan about? Isn't this the opposite of 'supporting'? As in 'undermining'?

Maybe we should form an 'Official Charlton Athletic Underminers Group'. Golfie could be honorary life president...
Seems like you are looking for something to moan about, this time other moaners.
Well I'm fed up with you moaning about people who moan about moaners...

Don’t expect JRS to be in the squad tomorrow, based on what I was told this morning.

Done his ACL, only reason we can do a deal

Would expect him to take Apters place on the bench for Preston, with Rob potentially heading out on loan between now and then and certainly by the window closing.

    Don’t even joke!!!😳
  • I’d take a 5pm JRS announcement today even if it meant he couldn’t play tomorrow.
Give him a bit longer to get up to speed in time for Preston at home on Saturday.
