Progressive passing is infinitely more valuable that just recycling passing and he was one of the highest in the league in Portugal - not bad considering Estoril are not exactly high flying.

A progressive passer that can take a setpiece too could be the absolutely perfect fit behind the front 4. But this could possibly be Jan/next summers " evolution"1 -

I imagine the Portuguese league is slower and less physical than the Championship. You will get more time on the ball to ping it about, whereas here you will get closed down in no time.
Where would he fit in our side? We've started this season with almost two 6s, two sitting midfielders, allowing the front 4 a lot of freedom to break. I can't see Holsgrove replacing one of the sitting midfielders, and I can't see him as a No 10 either, as NJ likes the ability of Carey to get forward and score.
Now we've gone all in with 4231, with a selection of exciting wingers, Coventry, Chalobah and Ouma (with Mwamba in reserve) seem to fit the midfield role perfectly.4 -

Obviously we haven't signed JRS yet and I'm not convinced there's anything in the Holsgrove links at the moment so it would be pretty hypocritical to get overexcited before it happens, but the whole point is that people shouldn't overreact, or even react really, until the window closes. From the start of the window Jones has been saying this is going to be a slower one and we will get the biggest deals done at the end. The free transfers and players on lower wages are the easiest to do; McNamara and Grant on frees, Mesik and Koumetio in from much smaller clubs and then the more complicated ones happen. Alli was a bit more expensive, Chalobah a bit of a gamble given his fitness and likely greenlit off the back of Holsgrove's at least initial lack of interest, and Ouma will have required more negotiation to sort the loan to buy deal out. Okonkwo was a result of Wrexham making a signing and Kaminski crossing into a point of no return. Then it's waiting for Palace to blink on their valuation of JRS and possibly luring Holsgrove over with a good start and more flowing football. Even TC's contract status has moved forward off the back of us being willing to sell but him not wanting to move and showing clear evidence to him that we actually will be playing him in his preferred position. It's not Football Manager where a player is coded to be willing to play for you or not, things are constantly changing and sometimes you have to hold your nerve to get the right players in. If people really weren't happy at the end of July with an entire month of the window left to go then they're insane, it's no different to storming off from the Derby game at half time and complaining that we're going to be relegated with results like that.wmcf123 said:

I'm sure, once a player has been located, there will be a degree of scouting, but it makes scouting overseas a lot cheaper. I assume that Holsgrove's underlying stats looked like what we wanted. But you're only going to know if they pass the 'no d*ckheads' rule if you talk to them...0 -

After watching the video clips of Holsgrove I think he’s obviously got a good football brain but as already said, I’d say it’s a jump up in standard in The Championship. A lot of money and I think we might see Ouma fill that role but with better physicality and pace. I don’t see him coming.3

I don't want to read too much into that but that doesn't sound like a manager that just is signing a RW....
So either JRS or A.N. Other RW was always going to be sought, but NJ would have stuck with Kaminski/Mannion as the keepers until more recent developments, and then Okwonko was bought in.
We also need to get a few more out of the door, and how successful we are there will decide if we make any cheeky last minute moves.
Either way its so refreshing to not be going into the last day with no fullbacks and one half fit striker as we've done before.

He's not a better right back than McNamara or Ramsay.
And no way is he getting in ahead of TC or JRS on either side of the 3. His finishing and crossing is nowhere near JRS ability on the right.
He would likely be where he is now for Preston. On the bench. Thats not trying to be harsh - just an honest take. Maybe it worked out ok for both parties.0 -

For instance I reckon we've had bids for Kanu that are less than we'd hoped and we're both holding out for more and leaving ourselves space to pivot if there's injuries before the window closes. If Godden's injury had been a bad one I reckon any deal for Kanu would have gone out the window and we'd have looked to shift someone else instead2 -

I see Ouma as more of a box to box engine room guy than a sprayer of passes
i I see Holsgrove as an architect but who isn’t necessarily going to smash people in the air.Holsgrove can unlock the door in a tight game. Ouma can batter the door down in a tight game.
Coventry can recycle the ball, win it back and give it to someone who makes stuff happen and throw in the occasional nice pass.
Chalobah can be the wise old head when it’s a tight game and needs someone to take a game by the scruff of the neckwe would have options depending on what sort of game we are playing15 -

I was told Lloydy signed months ago, TC extended before Derby at home even kicked off, and Ramsay has signed a deal already. The person who told me about Ramsay heard it from a very good source.
None of it has been wrong so far, have 0 reason to doubt the Ramsay rumour.
I feel very confident about Charlton Athletic at the moment, and have well and truly been humbled 😂
JRS signing would make it about an 8/10 window for me. If we signed Holsgrove (seems unlikely) looking at at least a 9.
