No, because it’s not just about his representation. Clubs won’t talk about issues with medicals if they can avoid it, because it damages the player’s prospects of a move elsewhere, which is unfair. Journos won’t often go there because clubs won’t talk publicly about the personal situation of players they don’t sign.Henry Irving said:OK, wild uninformed speculation here but could the club be trying to pressurise JRS and/or his agent by letting this news get out?
Nathan’s comments last night were a sledgehammer attempt to place the blame elsewhere (albeit he was clearly upset by the injuries). It wasn’t very credible, albeit well intended. This is why clubs don’t like “about to sign” stories. There can be more than one stumbling block with a deal. In this case it’s neither club to blame and hard to know how JRS has got himself in a mess over his representation. But it’s not the full story.19 -
Interesting update. If there’s something messy about representation it’s hard to see him quickly moving elsewhereAirman Brown said:

So it’s not a medical issue or it is a medical issue???Airman Brown said:

So reading between the lines (because this is a very well written and only semi-cryptic post):Airman Brown said:

1. JRS' representation was part of the problem, but not the entire problem
2. Something may have come up on the medical, although that part is not going to necessarily leak given that neither club would want it to
AB, let me know if I'm off base here. Not trying to misrepresent anything.3 -
I guess we’ll be able to judge the salience of that if he gets a permanent move in this window. I’m saying there is an issue which emerged at Charlton and was a factor in the deal being aborted. It’s a big investment for us, and let’s face it we not done brilliantly with fees in recent windows. I don’t know if it could have been done without that issue but Charlton pulled out.Bolderhumphreyreid said:

Hi SwisSwisdom said:
FIFA are trying to change the rules but clubs all over Europe have opposed their proposed rules so it's all in chaos and dispute. Has been for a few years.Redrobo said:As I said earlier, players not clubs should pay agents.
I've met numerous agents and not liked a single one of them. I qualified as one a couple of years ago but I'm just not a wanker about it and prefer players to be comfortable and settled as that's when you'll get the best out of them. Sadly the vast majority of players I spoke to and dealt with are completely unrealistic about the real world and just leave it to their agent. Also sadly the vast majority of clubs also take the piss with their demands. So players rarely get the best deal FOR THEM its usually the best for the agent or the club.
I'd say the JRS deal might not be dead completely and we are just saying "It's all agreed with the exception of the agent presumably moving the goalposts" our pulling out is probably an ultimatum to show we won't be taken for a ride.
Not sure who Jes' agent is now as it changed since his last contract - Not insurmountable and Jon Fortune's Two Touch agency might swoop in and save the day as the club seem to like working with him and he has his foot firmly inside the door at the club
Knowing what you do on agent / player contracts, and me knowing that I know bugger all, might I ask;
Can a player change agent at any time, i.e to facilitate any deal being done with a particular club, or is the player contracted to them, just like being contracted to a club, i.e for a season, 12 months, 24 months etc?1 -

To my knowledge I have only ever met one football agent, a famous one at that and it was a lengthy meeting.MuttleyCAFC said:Most agents have one role, that is to make as much money for their client as possible. On occasions, that might not always be what is best for them but it is the biggest motivation of most players too.
He was quite explicit about his role and one of the major tasks was taking the blame for things that a footballer wanted to happen but didn't want the world to blame him for. While I was in the office he took an extremely abusive telephone call from a famous football manager and told me it related to a very well-known player that wanted away from his club but didn't want it to look like that was the situation.
He also told me that he had to act as nanny to a lot of players and effectively run their day-to-day lives and mentioned another famous player who effectively had a vast amount of money just sitting in his regular building society account because he had no idea of what to do with it.
Football agents get a bad press, often well-deserved but the bottom line is if you want to kill someone hire a professional assassin who is going to do what you ask them to: football players probably have no need for Mr Nice Guy.6 -

Typically they sign for 2 years and can't usually break it unless there is “just cause” so if the agents is technically doing stuff by the book it’s hard for the player to wriggle free - he can but then becomes liable for any potential loss of earnings.
its messy and players typically don’t want to pay large legal fees to get to access to a new agent so they tend to stick it out for the two years.3 -
An agent also can’t speak to a player if he is contracted to an agent until there are a few months remaining. Although they often do anyway because, as I say, most agents are slimy srseholes3

I really wanted us to sign JRS, but the club shouldn't be held to ransom for ANY player.7
-
Fully agree. I’m gutted today but the club has to be put above any individual. It sounds like they did everything they could to get this over the lineGravesend_Addick said:I really wanted us to sign JRS, but the club shouldn't be held to ransom for ANY player.2 -
If the agent / agents legal mess is this much of an issue, how is he going to get any other move between now and Tuesday?
Surely it has left him, us and Palace high and dry if that were the case.
What I dont want to see is it falls down for us, someone else comes in and says 'thanks very much' and he is brilliant for them.

Am I misunderstanding, or is the problem that the agent has moved the goalposts late on to get themselves more money?DamoNorthStand said:If the agent / agents legal mess is this much of an issue, how is he going to get any other move between now and Tuesday?

But we all know that’s exactly what’s going to happen unless the issues with his agent are sorted pronto.DamoNorthStand said:If the agent / agents legal mess is this much of an issue, how is he going to get any other move between now and Tuesday?

All depends on what the conflict/disagreement is. If it's because the agent has turned around and said "you need to pay me a 250k fee on top" and we've said bollocks to that, a less scrupulous outfit may just cough it up no questions askedDamoNorthStand said:If the agent / agents legal mess is this much of an issue, how is he going to get any other move between now and Tuesday?

I’ve almost thought it was too much too true, that we’d sign Jes.
Did wonder if he’d end up going to a Burnley, or a club with much bigger budget than us.
As others have said it could be all part of bluff where one party has walked away, would still like it to happen.2 -

its messy and players typically don’t want to pay large legal fees to get to access to a new agent so they tend to stick it out for the two years.Under the FIFA Football Agent Regulations (FFAR), there is no minimum duration specified for a representation agreement between a player and an agent. FIFA only enforces a strict maximum duration of two years for these contracts. Therefore, players are entirely free to negotiate shorter timelines based on their immediate professional needs. On that basis a footballer could engage an agent for a specific transfer negotiation, or indeed could engage for example a solicitor to act on their behalf on a fee basis. There is no obligation for a footballer to engage a licensed agent at all and they may represent themselves or perhaps have a family member/trusted friend do so.1 -

The bottom line is, we will be signing a right winger come deadline day!! 😁0

If that less scrupulous outfit pays it, he turns it on, and they finish above us maybe its worth it to them?
Would all depend who we end up with in comparison.
So much to become clear over the next 3-4 days.2 -
To be honest I'd have been happy with JRS but we don't have a good record with players second time around. I'd be very happy with McCowatt.10

Last bit from me on JRS - Yes the agent was an issue, as Cawley reported, but the concerns from the medical I mentioned earlier were 100% genuine and also a big factor. Cawley obviously can’t report private medical information, which is why he only mentioned the agent in his article.
Airman Brown is spot on with everything he’s said.
One of the RW we liked, looks like he’s off to Stoke on loan.48 -
So, if I infer correctly, Airman is saying there is an issue with the agent but it was an issue from the medical that has led to the club pulling out of the JRS deal?
EDIT just see SJH's post.
"Oh, what a tangled web we weave"6 -
Appreciate the info 👏👏👏. Would also make sense why Jones has been so tightlipped about JRS, Palace may not wanting it get out that he has injury issues whereas the agent can take blame if that’s a stumbling block as wellstjohnshill said:Last bit from me on JRS - Yes the agent was an issue, as Cawley reported, but the concerns from the medical I mentioned earlier were 100% genuine and also a big factor. glad we’ve missed out on Ogbene as well done nothing for the last 2 years of his career.9 -
Cheers for the info mate. If there's a red flag on the medical we need to avoid in my opinion. Luckily we've got a bit of time and things have changed with new injuries so let's see.stjohnshill said:Last bit from me on JRS - Yes the agent was an issue, as Cawley reported, but the concerns from the medical I mentioned earlier were 100% genuine and also a big factor. Nice segue into what we think we’re going to do now the JRS transfer has been put to bedstjohnshill said:Last bit from me on JRS - Yes the agent was an issue, as Cawley reported, but the concerns from the medical I mentioned earlier were 100% genuine and also a big factor. thanks St JH re; the winger that’s off to Stoke. It would imply this position is still key despite the CB shortage
ideally I would still like to see a RW and a CB
Cawley mentions Notts County re: Kanu, but anything on Doc, Asiimwe, Apter or anyone else that may be on the way out. I’d assume Kaminski is all but gone, it’s just where.Personally I think it has to be Doc ahead of JRC now given he played last night and only has a year left of his contract
could we see a surprise departure, maybe someone like Knibbs0 -
He hasn’t been the same since we didn’t sign Alex DaveyElfsborgAddick said:1 -
Cawley also mentioned interest in Doc is there, there was also an article going around that A team in Cyprus were heavily looking at Kaminskicabbles said:
