Sounds like there was more than one red flag then. I never bought the agent line being the only issue that was rolled out. As airman says, it was a big investment for us and one I wonder if Nathan could have got signed off if we hadn’t won our first 3 games. Who knows how long or short term our owners look at things.

Seeing as @stjohnshill told us earlier we’re possibly looking at getting a striker in is this because we now want to send Mbick out on loan again?
Personally I’d still keep Kanu as long as could convince him to sign a new contract although I know that won’t be easy.0 -

I do agree with what you say, but it is frustrating for fans who choose not to subscribe to his substack for what ever reason to not hear 'first hand' important news through official channels e.g one interview with reporters and one through the official channels after the match last night.Henry Irving said:

So after all of our continued injury troubles, we were also still potentially in for another player that’s spent the last 3/4 years plagued with injuries and has barely been able to manage 20 combined games in that time. What exactly is our transfer strategy here, surely that can’t have even been a consideration as our back up for Rak Sakyi? I’m not quite sure we’ll ever learn and it’s worrying. So, if the half-told inside track is to be believed, and is being interpreted correctly, it's part down to a shitty agent and part down to something worrying showing up on his medical.
Very disappointing, because I think we were pretty much universally agreed that if we got JRS and he's at or back to anything like his best (with room still to improve) it was a potentially transformative signing both in terms of his potential impact on the pitch, but also what he said about the shifting ambition and capabilities of the club in the transfer market.
However, as Airman says, it would have been a huge investment, for us, and not one we can afford to have not work out in the way Apter, Knibbs, Olaofe etc. have, so far. For that reason alone, the club are right to be careful to get this one absolutely right and, just because the deal is apparently dead, doesn't mean the ambition and shifting approach and capability was not real.
There's a safety principal in aviation called plan continuation bias - it basically refers to pilots and crews sticking rigidly to a flight plan because it's been predetermined and feels the best thing to do because it gets everyone to where they thought they were going with, minimal disruption, despite various external information and changes like weather, fuel loads, mechanical issues indicating that a change of plan is the correct action. It causes multiple air crashes and deaths every year.
Or - to put it into the ever-popular house buying analogy - you find the "perfect" house; nice building, good layout, big garden, right location, modern kitchen but room to add value through other manageable improvements. As soon as you saw the place you could imagine yourself hosting summer barbecues or curled up on the sofa watching a movie in deep mid-winter. You have an offer accepted but it's at the top of your budget. Maybe even a bit over. Then the survey finds structural issues that could make it uninsurable or require major repairs in the future and, on the second visit, you meet the neighbour and get the vibe they will be a total pain the arse and always sticking their nose into your business. Do you push ahead with the purchase, or do you remind yourself there are other houses out there - maybe not quite as nice as this one but good houses, nonetheless, that can still provide you with a very nice family home - and back out of the deal? You'd be really disappointed, the family would all be gutted, and it would absolutely not be what your heart wanted to do, but backing out would probably be the right and sensible decision. Of course, someone else would eventually buy the house and you might occasionally drive by and see them living there, apparently happy enough, but that's their risk to take, and maybe they have more cash in the bank that the structural issues aren't such a risk for them.
This is why deals are either done, and can't be undone, or not done and open to collapse until they are done, and any "ITKs" who say any different are full of crap.
Maybe these potential medical issues might be a contributing factor in why he pr'aps hasn't been able to kick-on in his career in quite the way we all thought he would after his loan spell. Who knows.
As hard to swallow as this and last night's injury debacle has been, after a reasonable night's sleep, I still think it's been pretty good few weeks, and a long long way from the worst I've seen following this club.
TC's and Lloyd's new deals are huge. Okonkwo is a positive improvement. We're 6 pts from a possible 6 in the league. Shitty as the injuries are, they at least happened before the transfer window closed so we can react and there is still money in the budget to do deals. This all feels like a setback that will slow the forward progress, rather than halt it or push us backwards, which has tended to be what has happened in the last decade, so it could all be worse.
Let's try not to let all this evaporate the positivity that had built around the club because we have some momentum and need to maintain it if at all possible.23 -

I'm not saying he will sign for Burnley, and I'm certainly hoping his heart is still set on Charlton and that there's a way to resurrect this deal if it makes sense for us, but I wouldn't rule out him going elsewhere solely because of a medical issue.
Now, if there's questions over his representation/silly buggers there, THAT I could see holding up a move.1 -

I also wouldn't - in this day and age, having seen a few too many high profile instances of worrying medical situations on the pitch - want to see us sign a player against medical advice and there even be the possibility of us regretting it.2
