It would then allow us to play 5/3/2 4/3/3 4/4/2, which unless your Southampton you won't know how we will set up on the day.
Is Golden our new signing? I hope he can provide some sparkle to our attacks, and proves to be worth his weight...1 -

You don't have to be ultra quick, just clever enough to outthink a defender with a break, and of course have the kind of midfield that can find the pass...Kelman could work out fine...SantaClaus said:

Over the last 2 years we have consistently played better football and had better results, whenever we’ve had TC in that role drifting out wide and then an attacking wing back on the right hand side. I think we should go back to that, because when we were doing it well we won a load of games to get promoted and then started the season brilliantly well in the championshipSword65pf said:

I think we are too easy to defend against in the traditional 3-5-2. The hybrid 3-5-2/4-2-3-1 gets us playing much better football
When TC plays there he presses from the front, and then when we have the ball he is a left winger, not a striker. It works perfectly well and isn’t shoehorning him in at all because he gets the ball in the exact areas we want him too
TC has been a key player and regular starter for the last 2 years. If we can get him on a new contract I don’t see that changing6 -
Similarly Nicky Ajose down a level; 24 goals in 38 L1 games. A proven L1 striker? Nope, that was the only season in his entire career he got more than 8 goals at that level. It was pretty clear even when we signed him that Ajose had had a bit of a one-off seasonthenewbie said:

For that matter, Kelman got 7 for us, is he suddenly going to "prove" and get 20+? Seems unlikely too.
Strikers are always a gamble, we're much better off looking holistically (what else do they bring, what are there strengths in general) rather than just goal records - that will get you a Kermorgant instead of a McCleod.3 -
There will be lots of almost unknown players at the World Cup that will attract interest from English and other clubs. Should they sign a talent spotted at the World Cup it might free up existing players for a move. There will be a knock on effect in the chain but I doubt very much that’ll impact on Charlton. I've been wrong about players before, but I've also been right about my fair share. To my eyes, Kelman has "it". No argument that "it" has only surfaced in flashes, and I do not know for sure if NJ is the right manager to help Kelman unlock his full potential more consistently, but there is just something about him that gives me hope he could be really very good.
The Hull goal was great, but for me it's more his strikes vs Oxford and Birmingham at the Valley that stand out. Proper strikers' goals - tight spaces and limited time to react yet proper pings right into the corner with little backlift and without having to look up to check where the corners were. Great technique in the way he controlled and struck the ball, and great instincts to just know exactly where he needed to aim without looking. Maybe Godden would've taken them too (even for him it's only maybe, especially the Oxford one), but certainly no one else in the current squad. The last Charlton player who scored goals like that was probably Sir Clive.
Yes, he needs to figure out how he impacts the games outside the box more (e.g. how he linked up so well to assist Dykes vs. Bristol City), and get more shooting opportunities more often (more creativity in midfield will help him here too, as noted by many), but, personally, I see a lot of potential and very much have him down as one worth persevering with.
If there is an interested buyer, I can't see them offering more than we paid, or enough for us to buy a more established and proven Championship goal scorer. In that case, I don't see the point of selling - there will already be a decent amount of squad turnover this year and we need to have a bit of an eye on some consolidation and maintaining culture (Charlie seems a good lad too).11 -

We have 2 options as a club and always have done. Sell your better players, or sell those with potential. Mbick will be in the squad next season and Kanu will be loaned to league 1 hoping he progresses.CharltonManor1966 said:
