Chambers arrived as a young inexperienced stranger.
Whilst here he fulfilled a role and wasn’t a liability.
He wasn’t particularly a progressive asset or force for positive change, but was what you might call OK.
From Liverpool he has respectable provenance and he is young.
My question is whether he is markedly better than what we already have coming through, and how much a deal would cost.
I have nothing against the lad.

Do we have any decent Left-Backs coming through in the immediate future?

I would hope we get significantly better than Chambers.  He was ok, but higher League One ok imo.

I seem to remember that when he arrived he had just recovered from injury?
Thought he did alright and with a decent pre season he would be a decent signing with little risk.
l wouldn’t like to take a risk on a youngster. Anyone with potential should be ideally tested on a loan first.

Who do you have in mind?

I don’t think we had anyone in the u21s or u18s last season who’d I’d feel comfortable being our 2nd choice LWB at Championship level right now.

I hope we sign better than Chambers but he showed he can play at this level and is young enough to improve.

You mean the player we released two years ago because he wasn’t good enough?

As opposed to a player who has played in the championship with two teams

Plus he just signed for another club in Scotland

    Maybe not Chin then!
Phoenix Valentine can play there and he is a prospect.
I suppose my point (again) is about signing players who are markedly better than what we already have.

Wonder if we're still looking at Will Ferry.
I thought Chambers did okay and wouldn't mind him back.
  • It simply isn't that easy though, if we were able to sign player who is markedly better than Edwards within our budget then clearly we will. Jones will make the assessment on if that is needed based on how Josh has recovered from injury.

But if Chambers is available to come in and play understudy/rotate with Edwards on a free then that is a strong signing, given Jones has already been able to assess whether he has what it takes to develop at this level.

It then leaves budget to spend in other areas. But is entirely dependent on Edwards fitness

Surely the question is how he compares with all the other left backs we could realistically sign?

In January, the number of options is relatively small, but we have all summer to bring in a left back from somewhere.

Would expect Ferry and Luke Graham to both be targets but I wonder if the Old Firm will gazump us especially for Graham

Isn’t the poster Ronnie Moore a convenient conduit for those people who have bullying tendencies and have a compunction to make themselves look and feel superior?
Or is it gentle tolerant loving ‘banter’?
Is calling someone a rapist bullying?

Isn't that what you got banned for?  Again.

Any news on Fevrier?  Of the two, him and Chambers, if we were going to pursue one, I would’ve thought he’s in pole position

Following the sublime skill and cross from Chambers away at Leicester, we never really saw those traits again.

I'd like to think we can "do better," but only NJ and the management team know that.

Wouldn't be surprised if we're scouring Europe for at least of the wingback slots. Had that link a few months back to a Turkish U21 left back who is playing in Germany.

Edit - Berkay Yilmaz , has signed a new deal at Freiburg so cross that one off.

    Exactly.

I have no idea who posters think we are going to be signing. We will need to sign around half a dozen new players & with a budget around £10m-£12m that wont be stretching to buy many established Championship players.

A youngster from a Premier League side who has shown he can do a capable job seems to tick a lot of boxes.

Only 18 and is a right back.

We'd genuinely be better off playing Apter there again ahead of him, and no-one wants that

A day measuring their fitness by doing sprint runs up Shooters Hill seems do-able to me.

Too many snowflakes on here 😄

Disappointing if we sign either of these, I don't think NJ will.

    You lie.
There would need to be evidence regarding what you say.
Maybe you’re irritated because you’re one of the posters that digs Ronnie Moore out a lot, and I have a different point of view.

Ronnie has posted on another forum that he only posts on CL to wind people up.

That said he fully deserves what is in all honesty a gentle ribbing. Nobody "digs him out"

Hmm... Seth was banned in April, 2025. You joined in... April, 2025.

And then filled his regular slot on the jokes thread.

    Probably just a coincidence.
