Sheffield United have just sold winger Andre Brooks for around £9m. They’ve been interested in TC previously, wouldn’t be surprised if he’s still on their list
    Hopefully
Ah yes, the great idea of a team that struggles to create any chances selling their only player that creates chances from open play. Thankfully Nathan Jones isn’t that stupid and will be desperately trying to persuade TC to commit his future here, hopefully he manages too
If Sheffield United have just received 9 million for their player and we get an offer of say 2 million for Campbell is believe we should take it.
No need to get your nickers in a twist because someone has a different opinion.
And it’s my opinion that it would be stupid to want him to leave. Not sure why any Charlton fan would want a young player with potential to leave the club?

If he doesn’t sign a new contract then fair enough we will need to sell. Though £2m would be a poor deal if that’s the case

I doubt we would get anywhere near that.
I think we definitely would get that. If we’re getting no where near £2m then I’d just keep him even if he’s leaves on a free. Not worth losing him unless it’s a decent fee

So you would rather let a player go for nothing rather than receive some money.  I hope you don't own a business.

Well we haven't signed a dodgy player yet and this thread is like a badly dubbed 1970's kung fu movie...
    Peace and love all x

It feels like we’ve essentially gone from a very rousing NJ speech on the pitch about kicking on next season and the owners being ‘proper people’ (or words to that effect) to basically very little happening for an extended period now - very few inbound or outbound rumours, and even fewer of any credence. I know the WC will distort things somewhat but I don’t see how it would have all that much impact on our specific dealings as a club and where we are fishing.

The lack of activity/noise can be interpreted in two ways - a more positive outlook would be that activity is taking place and the club is keeping its cards close it its chest. Perfectly plausible. The second interpretation is that very little is getting out because, effectively, there’s very little to shout about and this takes the chat in the direction of underwhelming budget for next season and us struggling to shift the expensive recruitment mistakes of last summer.

I am hoping for the former, but I feel like there would be a much more positive and promising vibe if we were really trying to kick on. It feels like next season will present an enormous challenge to stay up again and, if offered now, I would snap your hand off for it. I hope that’s just presumptive bed wetting and we are plotting some serious business.

Players come and go, it’s always been the case, if enough is offered for TC or any other player they will go whether we think they should or not. The most important part is how we reinvest.

Sounds like we ain’t got no dough going off the other forum …
Think that was said last summer too. There's no chance anyone on an internet forum actually knows what our budget is.
Other than Ronnie Moore, who says it’s £18m so we’ve got loads of money
I’ve heard the same figure 6 weeks ago
What does this supposed £18m figure relate to? Is it additional player budget funds compared to last season? It can’t be just transfer fees as they are spread over the duration of the contract and if we signed someone on a free they would likely be asking for more wages, £20k a week (an average wage in the Championship) is £1m a year, the same cost as paying a transfer fee of £3m on a 3 year contract. You cannot split transfers fee from wages, they are from the same pot.
All I got told was the figure for budget. Not sure if that is just fees or wages also. They are someone I trust. So we shall see
No worries, and as ever, thanks for sharing! From what others have just posted it sounds like it’s the entire playing budget, wages, and the yearly instalments of transfer fees. I suppose it means little unless we know what it was last year. If it was £20m last year then that’s not so good.

What is it in relation to the rest of the Championship, there must be accurate figures from clubs financial results we could get a rough comparison.
Last year budget was the 12 mill we got for going up also TV money that has been increased this season ..
Thanks Ronnie but I wasn’t asking what we got for going up and extra tv revenue, I was asking what our entire player budget was last year compared to the rumoured £18m @21cws had heard it was this season. £16m has been mentioned, so it looks like a modest increase.

I feel as those Reams has been spot on with some stuff and miles off with others

Only time will tell which camp this lack of funding talk goes into

Every meeting with the directors seems to mention how we are ahead of schedule with our plans for the club

With that being said, I don’t see any reason why the owners would just up and say we don’t feel like putting in more dough

As it stands I’m taking the lack of info as a good thing, it’s the way these owners operate, it’s the way our old good owners operated with success. Don’t see after the way NJ was talking on the pitch with one of the main men next to him sounded like they were ready to throw in the towel. People didn’t have any patience before the window and now those people are showing even less, I think it’s a slow burner what with the World Cup, which doesn’t mean we are waiting for World Cup players by the way.🤷🏻‍♂️

£2 million for Campbell would be a huge mistake.
Agreed. Campbell needs to play out wide instead of where Jones plays him. Play him in his best position and then he is worth at least double that. Would rather keep him if he plays out wide.
    He does play out wide!!!
Oi. Let’s not start a climate change row in this thread pls.

I’m told not as merry as it once was.  There’s a reason why it’s zero signings and it’s not down to planning. Plenty of clubs have done business.

I think more info is required if you are throwing this type of comment out. That’s a real chuck a grenade and run for cover.

Didn’t @RonnieMoore say earlier NJ and the coaching staff haven’t been in yet as it’s all about fitness/conditioning initially ( obviously bullshit) but has NJ lost the dressing room before he’s even found it?
