Kelman will be better with a midfielder who can pass forward in the final third
Praying this is the case because it’s the only thing giving him any sort of leeway at present. If we do get the creative midfielder and he still struggles to get the best out of him he has nothing left to stand on

Last season at Orient didn’t look like a fluke to me. Kelman scored all sorts of strikers goals. Jones has said he’s the best finisher he’s worked with. That’s some reference. He’s had a disjointed start to his Charlton career and I’m sure early in the season he was fairly downbeat for his form and fitness. Since he’s come back in I think he’s showed enough in a team that doesn’t score goals that as Rothko says given better ammunition he’ll be scoring more. He’s definitely got a future at Charlton unless he bombs next season which I don’t see happening.

Think even second season up you're going to need the nous and experience of Godden and Dykes. Invaluable to have around the squad and to bring on the likes of Leaburn and Mbick.

Kanu new deal and L1 loan , Ahadme and Tanto sold , not convinced we'll hold onto TC (not because I don't rate him, but I think we'll get some offers)

The creativity needs fixing more than the actual strikers themselves.

This is the main thing for me. Other than TC are any of our strikers poor finishers? I don’t think so. If we create more chances they will score more goals
    Seriously ?
    Seriously!!

I think today’s result might have thrown a spanner in the works
  • I'd temporarily close this thread for the time being until we know what league we are going to be in next season.

The list of players people are saying we should get rid off will change dramatically should the worst happen.

Think you could sell any midfielder or forward this summer and it wouldn’t hurt us in the slightest

Yet he doesn't get a second on the pitch yesterday.

If we keep to the general rule of ex Luton, but if we stay in the Champ it’s the ex Luton of the season they were in the Prem, if we drop down to League One it’s crap ex Luton from the conference years

we can keep the thread open this way

Kelman is obviously a good finisher - we've seen him do it in flashes and clearly did it last year but godden is a great finisher but can also do all the other side of the game that kelman has shown no evidence of being able to do - or even try to do - he's the complete opposite to someone like coburn at millwall - a clearly terrible finisher/ striker but a bit of a nuisance in a team that doesn't play much football - that's the sort of player who is more valuable to us atm. Not that i'm advocating signing coburn - he seems to have had a decent spell recently but will never be a striker in a successful team that achieves anything - thankfully.
Let it go mate. It’s getting embarrassing now.

If we are back in league one, then most of the current squad are good enough for mid table.

Not convinced Kaminski is going to stay around
Where could Kaminski remotely match what we are paying him?
Only paying him 14k a week
so he would get more at most championship sides
    Oh bless him.

5 more years in that league would be incredibly depressing, bet the club are glad they haven't announced hospitality prices just yet... although im pretty sure this is the exact reason why.

Not if we’re in league one he shouldn’t.

Kelman and Knibbs with the right tactics should be good for 40 goals a season based on previous performance.

If you was the owner would you give NJ money to buy players with the choice he made this season, all his main buys loaned out or on the bench

A very simplistic view to ignore the improvement in recruitment in January

Forty goals a season, really! Have you seen the way we play?

If it is improvement why are the buys not starting every game?

Dykes, Chambers and Clarke are. A 60% success rate (not including the injured Sichenje) is pretty good!

Chambers and Clarke are both loans, I am talking  about players we have spent good money on.
I do agree with Dykes and Sichenje

So the two players we bought you think are good? Is that not an improvement then?

Its a 6 month deal, so yeah pretty much a glorified loan.
  • 27 points from 28 games since the promotion halo fell away.  We need meaningful changes in the squad for next season just to stay up again imo.

We do, but I'm fairly sure that Jones is very much of the same opinion. He's used the style he has to try and make sure we stay up and hopefully it will do just that, but I genuinely don't think he's looking at the football we have played and are playing and thinking "this is fine."

The real question is what the owners and SLT think about it and are willing to do about it.
