I think if we went down I'd sell Carey. surely someone would pay decent money for him and it makes up for some of the tosh we've bought this season. I think Knibbs would be great in that division. I still don't think we're going down though still points to be gained and leicster still have pompey and blackburn still to play just cant see us being dragged into it that bad1

DKD shows the nonsense of football finances at the moment, especially with the Hollywood clubs. Spend £2m on a player, just to be a bench backup. He's been on the bench every game, playing 74 minutes in total since he joined.5 -
I said at season's start that I'd be happy not to go straight back down. I stand by that. Our transfer business last summer was terrible, that at Christmas was so much better, albeit most successful have been the loanees.
This summer .. if we are not to struggle again next season, a major investment in new players will be needed.
We can't go on relying on the same back three and all out effort from the front/midfield five.
Sam Smith of Wrexham is the type we need like a man bleeding to death needs a blood transfusion. TransferMarket values him at around £1.2 Million, if we have to pay twice that, even 3 times, then we have to pay it. Assuming of course he wants to join us. We MUST sign a striker who will actually score goals.
I have mentioned before, Grimsby's Kacurri. Young, inexperienced, 4th tier player, yes, yes, yes, BUT i m o a player of huge potential as a central defender
Sign Harry Clarke on a perm (all my 'selections' presume they want to join us), same as Fevrier. Two more Stockport players, Mothersille (midfielder/striker) and Pye (defender), (I'd say Brad Hills but he's out with a cruciate injury)
Ryan Oné, Sheffield United on loan at Lincoln, big, agile striker
OUT .. (minimum) .. Apter, Oloafe, Leaburn, Gillesphey, Berry, Knibbs. Burke, Berry, Campbell .. some with regret BUT we need a wholesale change of personnel IF we are to prosper in the Championship ..
All the above is just a fantasy, fever wishful thinking of course, and I doubt if the money (a lot !!) for the necessary changes will be forthcoming
AS EVER.. WE WILL SEE

You've said our transfer business last summer was terrible. The general criticism of our business in the summer is that we signed too many players from L1 hoping they would step up. So to counteract that your plan involves signing 3 players from currently L1 Stockport, 4 if not for injury, including an attacker who has scored one goal in 25 games this season and that was back in August. We signed Tanto from them last season off 8 league goals and he wasn't good enough so I'm not sure raiding Stockport again for worse players is our best bet. Add to that a 20 year old L2 centre back with 11 appearances there to his name, spending big on a striker who has 1 league goal more than Kelman this season and shipping out Leaburn, Campbell and Knibbs for some reason and I don't think that this is a shopping list that would excite me all that much if we were relegated to L1 to be honest, let alone staying in the Championship.Lincsaddick said:I said at season's start that I'd be happy not to go straight back down. We are not going down …. and if by a miracle of results we did the squad would be to good for league one and we win it by a mile .. with no one leaving unless Jones wants them toCaptainBeefheart said:I think if we went down I'd sell Carey. surely someone would pay decent money for him and it makes up for some of the tosh we've bought this season. You know that how? It might be our lucky year. With WBA possibly getting a points deduction. Together with Sheff Wed and Leicester.RonnieMoore said:

WBA not getting points deduction this season it will be next season .. look at the fixtures ..Leicester are as far as we are concerned 99% down .. can only see Oxford getting at most 4 points that’s being generous … even if we don’t get another point I can see us being one ahead of Oxford after 46 games ….. that was the target when we started this season .raytreacy said:

I absolutely couldn't take needing anything final day against Swansea. Get it wrapped up ASAP and stumble across the line into hopefully a very busy summer.1

If we need something from the final day against Hull then that will be a challenge given we are playing SwanseaMarcusH26 said:I absolutely couldn't take needing anything final day against Hull. Get it wrapped up ASAP and stumble across the line into hopefully a very busy summer.5 -

Signing the best of league 1 don’t work last summer. I think we should utilise the loan market more as well as a few older and experienced championship campaigners1

one of, if not the best 'attacker' this season has been Sonny Carey, signed from a L1 clubTodds_right_hook said:Signing the best of league 1 don’t work last summer. I think we should utilise the loan market more as well as a few older and experienced championship campaigners
my idea is to sign some of, whom I regard as the better young(ish) L1 players, along with (e.g.) say Smith and Clarke who could be 'surplus' at their present clubs ..
I don't believe we can compete when it comes to signing 'top' Champ or lower Prem players .. loans ? .. worked quite well for us since Christmas, but is not i m o a strategy to rely on.
Lastly, even signing good 'squad' (i.e. bench warmer) players comes very expensive. I agree about signing experience, BUT beware of signing another Champ club's dead wood or injury prone veterans. We've tripped up down that road far too often1 -

We've tripped up down that road far too oftenI agree though we are not an attractive options compared to a lot of teams in the champ this could be down to financial considerations(Small and Offiah) or just plain style of play (Galbraith). We need to balance out in this league and establish ourselves before we can get the players like Watford or a Swansea or Preston are able to get. Now it depends what our ambitions are but we should most likely aim to be competing with and beating the above teams to signings as if you are going for and beating these teams who have been in the championship or higher for signings you are probably doing the right thing. For a few season it will probably mean paying a few players over and above what they would normally be worth because of the added risk of relegation.1 -
I have on no good authority that we have spies in the Luton and Ipswich treatment room. Should very be fruitful (taps nose).3

We didn't sign the best of League One last season though.
If we had we would have got Galbraith and Caleb Taylor who were two absolutely clear stand outs. Then add Poku, Kone, Burrell, Makama all from League One, I am sure there are others I have missed too.
There are quality L1 players capable of stepping up, we just a) were 3 weeks late given play offs, b) couldn't compete given we were favs for relegation and c) chose poorly.

January was clearly a much better window for us, but let's not over-egg it as our form has not taken a massive upswing really.
Clarke excellent albeit a bit patchy, Sichenje full of promise but barely played due to bad luck, Dykes works hard and an improvement but many not bothered about him staying, Coady ok, Chambers better than no LWB at all but light weight, Fevrier minimal impact, Brookes no impact.
This summer needs to be much, much better than both of our recent windows. I am hoping Chappel has 5-6 Sichenje's lined up.3 -
I think “coady ok” is a bit harsh. We’ve only lost 1 game that he’s started in, and that’s before you add his probable huge impact off the pitchAthletico Charlton said:January was clearly a much better window for us, but let's not over-egg it as our form has not taken a massive upswing really.

Also think most want Dykes to stay because he’s also been good. 3 goals and 3 assists playing up front for us is not easy8 -
Caleb Taylor wasn’t even in the top 5 centrebacks last year Jones, Klarer, Cleworth, Bindon, O‘Connor were all better and you weren’t gonna spend on him when you have Ramsay and Jones.Athletico Charlton said:Todds_right_hook said:Signing the best of league 1 don’t work last summer. Makama hadn’t played up top before this seasonArgue whether Kone suits us more which I agree but he was outscored by Kelman, and John Marquis had the same number of goals as Burrell.
Galbraith was the only clear cut quality league 1 player we missed out on that would have actually fit in our team and that wasn’t even down to us not wanting him.We did horribly choose wrong Apter, Kelman even Tanto never suited how we play but there wasn’t many players that were better options for what we try and do, Maybe a Pye, Wing, Erhahon, DKD but not too many options1 -
We did in Kelman & Knibbs.Athletico Charlton said:Todds_right_hook said:Signing the best of league 1 don’t work last summer. I think we should utilise the loan market more as well as a few older and experienced championship campaigners

Kelman top goalscorer and top goal contributions for the season with 26, Harvey Knibbs ranked 8th with 20, Knibbs also in the top 20 players statistically in the league, and only 6 midfielders out of the lot rated higher than him. Don't think people would have argued with either of them making team of the season, particularly Kelman.
The problem is, they both didn't get a proper pre-season, both got injured and it also doesn't help they play under one of the most boring and least attacking managers in the whole league statistically.
I have far more faith they can still make an impact at Charlton at some stage, they were both ready to make the step up, just don't think the circumstances suited them is all. Kelman has the technique, just concerned about his character/attitude atm, I think Knibbs has just been unfortunate.5 -
I would not sell Leaburn now. We would be lucky to get half a million for him after the season he has had. With a full pre-season, and if injury-free, we could sell him for 3 million plus.Lincsaddick said:

I like Campbell, but he would be worth more to a club that used him properly. I think there would be two or three clubs willing to pay 1.5 million for him.1 -
I was impressed with both Max Lowe and Tayo Adaramola today. Two players that would improve our left sided options in defence.
Richard Cawley then mentioned on his podcast that we are interested in Adaramola.14
