We'll obviously bring in at least 1 midfielder. Indeed I imagine that's where the biggest transfer spend will be.

Karoy scoring at Derby started the revival that kept us up.
He then played his part in us winning promotion.
More than good enough to have a good league career.
Good luck to him.
Ruthless was the key word for this window.43 -
Would expect us to pay more than the Kelman fee for a midfielder.killerandflash said:We'll obviously bring in at least 1 midfielder. Indeed I imagine that's where the biggest transfer spend will be.6 -
Absolutely wish Karoy all the best and think he can and will have a good career at League One level.
He has time on his side to improve and make the step up to Championship level but I haven’t seen enough technically from him to make me think that’s anytime soon.
He gave everything to us and that was never in doubt. Genuinely wish him the best of luck going forward and will keep an eye on his progress.32 -

Absolute Rubbish!RonnieMoore said:Spoke to an ex employee of the club last week who still has very good contacts within the club hence the reason I not posted till now ..cause I think one of our targets he was telling me about has signed for Swansea ( 6 mill been quoted ) .. New Zealand international who played for Motherwell he said he would have broken our transfer record , but he did say that NJ requested bigger wage structure which the owners have agreed , that should see a former player return now we know it’s Grant and most likey our first 25k plus a week player. NJ very happy at the club and on the recent tour one of the owners turned up and spoke to the players about the season ahead. He believes Apter will stay and Jones and Ramsey contracts are not a problem .. only bids received are for Kanu.1 -
No doubt he gave his all for us, unfortunately …at the moment he isn’t at the level needed, he will always be one of ours and his career followed closely no doubt, with every good performance and goal scored someone saying we should have kept him. Good luck karoy, wish you nothing but good in the new journey ahead of you.2

I was a bit surprised we didn't spend decent money in that area last summer, seeing that Doc and Cov weren't star players for us in L1.MarcusH26 said:

Berry was the clear one to replace from the 3, so we signed 2 attacking midfielders. Knibbs was a decent feekillerandflash said:

We also signed Costello for 750k I think it was. So it’s not like we didn’t invest much in the midfield1 -
I would be pleasantly surprised if we surpass that fee this summer. Just a hunch but I think we are upping the wage budget to attract better players and have a bigger squad but will probably not be spending as much on fees as last summer. I think that’s the right approach tooMarcusH26 said:

I think and hope you're right. Whether it's loans or released players or even permanent signings with whatever budget remains on filling out the areas that need addressing, it's that midfield signing of real significance that could make the difference. A Holsgrove or De Keersmaecker standard please🙏MarcusH26 said:

Wish Karoy all the best, he always gave 100% and I enjoyed watching him play. As has been said above, at a very young age he played a big role in NJ’s first few months keeping us up in L1. Shame he’s gone6

Mamba won't count towards squad member limits, as he's still under 21 years oldNabySarr said:
Possibly, but we do still have Coventry, Docherty, Costello and Mwamba so it’s not like we really needed to keep him around to make up the numbers. Hopefully a sign that one is close thoughCB1 said:Maybe a midfielder is close?

Big fan of Karoy as a person and worker. Haven't ever thought he had the technical chops to succeed at a higher level at L1, but he will have a career in football. As he gets older it might even be with a team in the Championship, but not soon enough for us.
Leaving is the right decision for all parties and I wish him the very best.16 -
Unfortunately I have thought for a long time he would never quite cut it here.
Always a shame when it's a genuinely good human. Extremely polite lad and always been positive when I have spoken to him. I wish it worked out here for him, but a move is definitely right for both parties.
Wish him the very best and will follow his career, hopefully he can improve his game and end up back here in an ideal world.5 -
This is all lining up for Karoy to sign for a Champ club and run the show against us. Good luck to him and Alex 👍🏼11

Rumours are that Karoy has gone back to Blackpool.1

Ah man! Love karoy. Good luck. I think he will develop into a great player.0

Well we all know we need to sign some quality in midfield but I’m starting to think that it’s going to be players that none of us have a scooby about. From Scotland maybe or from abroad. No idea if there are free agents worth a look but I’d have guessed they would be out there on the rumours if there were. Doubt we can afford to buy “quality” from a Championship club and League One bit us on the backside last season. It’s a conundrum.2
-
I’ve been quite convinced that we won’t have heard of most of our signings this window, especially the ones we pay for, just don’t see us prising good enough players we need away from other clubs in England due to the value of them. I’d imagine the net is being spread further than it has for a long time.ShootersHillGuru said:Well we all know we need to sign some quality in midfield but I’m starting to think that it’s going to be players that none of us have a scooby about. I remember that pre season game against Millwall when he absolutely ran the game. Thought he was going to go on to bigger things than us that season.Hasn’t quite worked out, but doesn’t mean that it won’t eventually.Sad to see him go.6

Great kid, physically brilliant, appalling decision making9

Remember NJ is looking for character and determination in a player, not just ability.Sword65pf said:

Seems like a nice lad but unfortunately not good enough for the Championship.2121 said:Ah man! Love karoy. Good luck. I think he will develop into a great player.0 -

I thought his decision to sign for Charlton after coming through the academy and being scouted by other, bigger teams was a great one and a noble one personally.15
