He's not as bad as some make out. I think he was a key reason we improved a bit after Jan. Playing with wingers if we do, has to benefit the central striker whoever is there. Last year was attritional ugly stay up football, hopefully a bit more pleasurable to watch this year. Although if we don't sort the midfield it probably won't happen.3

Just hard to know how much of the fall off was down to the WC and if he was over performing before that to make the squad.Chunes said:

Interestingly, Adebayo is still on trial at Bristol City even though they’ve signed Tolaj. I wonder if we both want Adebayo and have Dykes as the next option2 -

I wouldn't be displeased but I'd be confused. If we are playing 4231 then we'd have 4 strikers (Leaburn, Kelman, Dykes, Godden) competing for one spot plus Mbick to come back from injury and TC/Grant who can play that hybrid role. I wouldn’t mind in the sense of he's effective at what he does, but it would really convince me that Jones wanting more of a cutting edge and quality going forward is nothing more than empty PR speak. If you want to evolve to a more technically skilled style up front, you don't sign Lyndon Dykes.LargeAddick said:

We have to be realistic that, purely in terms of budget we have a battle on but I remain optimistic that there are 3 more good signings coming our way to give us a better finish than last season.
Realistically, there are 15-18 teams who are all but guaranteed to finish above based on squad strength, league history and/or wages.
It is extremely unlikely we finish above the likes of Burnley, Wolves, West Ham, Boro, Norwich, Millwall, Southampton and Sheffield United.
Probably unlikely we finish above the other Championship regulars in Bristol City, Watford, Derby, West Brom (last season was a bit of an anomaly), Preston
Newcomers like Wrexham and Birmingham City just have too much financial muscle on us, and being blunt ambition as well. That makes 15 teams minimum we would do well to finish above.
It then leaves the remaining teams who are a bit mediocre like us in Pompey, Stoke, QPR and Blackburn. I would argue all of which except Blackburn are more likely to have a stronger season than us on paper.
21st is very good. It keeps us in one of the most competitive leagues and means we are always one good season away from Premier League football. I don’t know how anyone who looks at the quality of this league and how low our budget is, and can think 21st isn't a big achievement. I would take that right now.
So, in summary, HMS Piss The League is in dry dock this year.1 -
I think Dykes is a little underrated in terms of his pure footballing ability.He was a lot quicker, mobile, and technical than I thought he would before seeing him play for us.
It’s not the most exciting signing, but I think when he came in he improved us - and would improve us again if he came back.11
