Allis stats make for poor reading.

It seems a really odd signing if true
Jones has been saying for months we want to add pace and 1v1 ability in wide areas. So it’s really not that odd

Fans expecting us to sign a player with that who is also scoring 10 goals a season or getting loads of assists are deluded unfortunately. That’s just never going to happen. It’s why the stick TC gets is ridiculous because he’s better than most wingers we’d be able to sign and he’s still only young so can get a lot better
NJ always says a player has to be categorically better than what we have, is Alli categorically better than Apter? For example, it’s a genuine question as I don’t know, it feels like we are scraping the barrel a bit, I have nothing to substantiate that other than a feeling. At some point we have to spend/pay the going price for the quality we need if we want to be competitive, not every sustainable signing is going to come up trumps, if we keep gambling with this approach we will shoot ourselves in the foot. Rumours of coady and Dykes are not going to calm people down I don’t think.
At the end of last season NJ said we have proper people running this club now and asked the fans for their support and patience. Our first league game is in three weeks. The transfer window doesn't shut until the 1st September. NJ has made it very clear that these signings will take time. People just need to pay attention to what he says.

Signing experienced players, like Coady and Dykes, to fill out a squad doesn't necessarily mean we are neglecting other areas. Not all signings are made in order of priority, that's just not how it works. When it does come to spending money we are going to have to take risks on certain players from abroad, players with injury histories or flaws in their game because of our financial position relative to the rest of the league. It is not rocket science.

Forgive me for remaining positive and patient, even though you have 'a feeling' that we are scraping the barrel.

Surely we’re well below what we spent last summer? Even accounting for higher wages.

I'd be surprised if including the brought forward Sichenje fee if we've spent more than £3m so far. Plenty of headroom compared to last summer's spending.

Listening to Cawley and Louis’ pod, Rich mentions Kamara is likely an end of the window move and Holsgrove might be too expensive for us but hasn’t ruled it out.
If we have to wait til the end of the window we will be 0 points from 5 with the current squad by then. It is mediocre at best just now.
We have pretty much the same players that started the season last year, we probably have a better squad now than we did last August against Watford. Don’t think we got 0 points then did we?

We also had the benefit of being on an amazing run & confidence being sky high from winning the playoffs, pushing the water more uphill this season in that regard
Yes of course, but it's not like this squad is incapable of getting results in the championship. Some serious doom and gloom about when we have a better squad than we did last season at this stage, and we are obviously still working to bring more in
I would say it’s more realism than anything doom and gloom. There is an obvious mismatch between the messaging about kicking on, and the current reality of our transfer business to try and achieve that. We are well short.

In the last few days we’ve signed Millwall’s back up right-back who has had a fairly recent major injury and have then been largely dominated by AFC Wimbledon. It doesn’t scream kicking on at this stage

I haven't the slightest idea how much we will/won't strengthen the squad.
    NOR DOES ANYONE ON CL.

Wrexham haven't signed a single player this summer.
Has Parky had a row with the owners are Wrexham skint?
You think not, then would people quit saying it about us until the window has closed and we see our final squad?

Forgive me for expressing how I feel after a shitshow of a performance friendly or not, I’ve advocated plenty of times the need for patience and I still stand by that, however looking at things from the outside at this particular moment which is all we can do things don’t look great, Nj and club can tell us what they want as many times as they like, as it stands the actions are not matching the sounds, obviously time to change that, but the type of players we are being linked with don’t scream categorically better. Nothing has suggested we aren’t scraping the barrel yet.

I think reams is doing overtime on all his accounts currently.
  • In all seriousness I am slightly worried but will reserve judgement until we see what CMs we bring in. Which needs to done asap ideally. Derby have a serious squad and come the 15th, I maybe sinking into my seat.

Tbf if we’re still hunting for key positions on 30th August, 5 or so games into the season, I think we’d all agree our summer hadn’t gone spectacularly well.

This feels more cryptic than the Nice clue
  • 1.5 mill for alli is peanuts compared to what other teams are spending. If the board are not prepared to spend then what’s the point of them still being around sell up and move on

If every other championship team was getting lots of business done and we were falling behind then I'd be concerned. The reality is that it has been quite a slow window so far, with both the world cup and the season starting later than usual, delaying movement for everyone. In fact if we sign Alli over the next couple of days then there's only a few championship teams that have signed more players than us this summer. Jones has said all along that the quality will come later in the window

Players signed by each team so far:

Centre midfield reinforcement we've needed since January it's so obvious but guess it's hard to get real quality in that position

Reckon we'll get a few late loans in for that position

Exactly, 83 signed by 24 clubs, which is less than 4 on average and we've signed 4.
Ok, not top quality but let's just wait and see.

See that’s the point maybe people are getting edgy about, NJ said it was about quality not quantity, so far two of the four are unknown and we are hoping they are better, the two freebies you could argue have things to prove and could go either way, on top of that the glaring problem hasn’t been dealt with as yet whilst rumours of players that probably should only be thought of as bench starters are all we are hearing. Once we see a centre mid things will probably calm down, question is who will it be? Don’t think many of us will know them when they sign to be honest, as I can’t think of anyone we could realistically sign/prise away from any of our competitors, or if we are prepared to pay for it.

Kamara and Alli seem downgrades on Fevrier, and £1.5m for a L1  unproven shortarse winger. Wtf?

And Thierry Small must be getting itchy feet at Preston.

Only 23 as well. I think he’s going to look a real bargain and a great bit of recruitment from us

I’ve stated for a year now the midfield needs replacing as if we go in with this lot now and don’t replace we’re getting relegated

Rumour on the Stockport forum that Blackburn have snapped up Fevrier. Says for a 'big fee'.

No bedwetting here but Alli is not the level we should be aiming for to stay up next year IMO. As I mentioned earlier, Pompey fans gave him a 5 out of 10 for last season. He'd be a mediocre signing if we were in League 1. Has something changed with the ownership? They've got serious financial muscle but it doesn't appear to be reflected in the calibre of signings needed just to keep our heads above water. I'm not saying we should spend multiple millions but this squad definitely needs some help.
As always, we'll wait to see where we are once the summer transfer window (slams) shut. But it's looking like C rather than B or A level signings.
