NJ very open about specific positions. I thought the 'that's why we've kept our powder dry' comment was interesting.
Sounds like these two will cost a bit.

I wonder if it is Holsgrove and Kamara?
Going to fun on the forums and social media if we sign a couple of players for £3-5m each.

Not so much if we only end up with Chalobah and similar on a free.

NJ mentioning Micah in his injury update suggests that he's going to be involved with the first team this season. Could be why a deal for Dykes isn't being pursued

" Dominant midfield player and a right winger to compete with Apter and this is why we've kept kept our powder dry"

Suggests to me these 2 ins will be for substantial fees.
I thought the exact same mate.

So is Chalobah a bonus or a placeholder to test the signing works/show them this is what we want you to do?

Going from how Jones is speaking about him it certainly feels like Mbick is part of Jones first team plans.

Ok so that should settle us down a bit,to hear NJ say the positions we are looking is encouraging and hope I’m not wrong but intimated pretty much holding back the budget for a couple of good money signings. I think the appearance of Chalobah has probably helped if he stays fit , maybe the budget had to allow for two cm’s, but now it can go on one and just worry about wages for Chalobah if he impresses enough. I like the fact it appears Apter is going to get a go.

Oh ffs the highs and lows of being a Charlton fan. 3 hours ago we were shit ! Skint & relegated. One PSF and an interview with NJ about transfers and we are back to pissing the league lol
In my defense I didn't pile on with the skint chat. I tend to sway between an attempted calm neutrality and blind over excited optimism.

Obviously this is the former, you don't need optimism to read those signs from NJ so I can calmly and neutrally say we're definitely going to win the league

Mills would be a class rw option.

We saw tonight how good we was first half with Godden and Knibbs …. No need for a target man when we play like that

Dare I say it we are actually looking in a promising position. 2CM’s would have been nice but if Mwamba can step up and Chalobah earns himself a contract squad looks very healthy especially with some of the injuries coming back as well

So, if the plan is 4-2-3-1:

    GK: Kaminski, Mannion, Brooks

    RB: Ramsay, MacNamara
    RCB: Jones, Collins, Gough
    LCB: Koumetio, Bell, Burke
    LB: Mesik, Edwards

CM: Docherty, Coventry, JRC, Mwamba, **NEW**
    CAM: Knibbs, Carey, Fullah

    LW: Grant, Alli, Campbell
    RW: **NEW**, Apter

    ST: Godden, Kelman, Leaburn, Mbick

I fully expect Asiimwe, Kanu and Tanto to be gone by the end of the window.

I will feel much more positive if the two signings are Kamara and Holsgrove. Wonder where that'll leave Chalobah though, would like it if we signed him too really.

Think it'll be an " are you actually fit enough to make a contribution " and then a 1yr deal as a bonus. I would expect the CM signing NJ mentioned to ultimately be competition for Doc.
  • Sounds like a first choice RW and a first choice ‘dominant’ CM as a minimum.

Presumably we’d bring Chalobah in as well if we feel it’s a sensible deal as well.

Lloyd is potentially the difference between us staying up and going down. Surely no one offers us that much for a 30 year old for it to make financial sense
I don't think it is. We have some decent centre backs, some of whom are better on the ground. We will go down without a very good midfielder to run the show. One thing we do not have at present

I’m not sure about that. We have Docherty and Costello for the number 8 role, and then also Mwamba and we’ve seen Carey used there too.

For the deeper role we just have Coventry. I think that’s where we need the signing to be if it’s only going to be 1. I suppose if we brought Chalobah in as an extra then the CM signing could be in the 8 role

Stand down everyone it's just going to be Redmond and Chalobah, we have no money remember

I love Lloyd but there’s no guarantees he will be as good in a back 4 as he was in the 3 for us, the back 3 played to all his strengths, a 4 would ask a lot more of him, not saying he couldn’t do it, but worth remembering before the meltdown if he does move on

Nj saying a CM and RW are what he wants to complete the squad
Think Kamara is our number one target for that RW position.
    Or is he 👀
    Welcome home JRS!!!!!
Nope, not seen the name mentioned once on here
    Amario Cozier-Duberry?
    Going rangers
Not sure on that now. Rangers have agreed a deal with Cov tonight for Janoah Markelo
Oh fair enough but no not the name
Could you tell us all please mate. Will save about 350 messages on here. 😂
Can’t say a name but I think the name I know is our second choice if the first don’t happen. Played a fair amount of time for top 10 team from last year.

If we do slap down good fees on a winger and midfielder now, can we just agree to delete the last 50 pages of this thread and pretend they didn’t happen
Can't be spoiling some fans' misery now. Even after signing Alli some were still complaining about not signing a CM (even though we all know we need one) rather than being happy we'd signed another wide player.
