Agree. I don’t quite know where some people get their valuations of our players sometimes. We’ve got a long hard season ahead. If Kanu had gone on loan to a league one team last season and delivered similar numbers, there’s an argument Jones includes him in our striking options. Losing him may come back to bite us, but from timing perspective, it’s one of those things if he goes, and I’d expect 300k is a more realistic figure, if that2 -

I think there were reports that the fee could be up to that with certain conditions met. There may have been one in there for promotion but I would say he won't have got near any other add-ons based on his time with us. I hear you but strikers at that age are on every clubs radar. Look at what happened with Brightons attempt to sign Mbick. Kanu had a good loan spell last season. He’s just a repeat of that away from being easily worth a million and probably more. Unfortunately for us he’s out of contract soon so at an awkward call for the club. Personally I’d offer him a couple of seasons deal and put him in league one. Ahadme got his goals in a poor Cambridge side, fighting to survive in L1, whereas Kanu got his goals in a Walsall side who for 60% of the season were a promotion form L2 side, and thus dominating games.LittleAddick said:Didn't we sign ahadame for £1m? Well, either a) we don’t think he’ll cut it at Championship level and so with a year on his contract it’s better to cash in now or b) we do but he won’t sign a contract extension so it’s better to cash in now. Either way, I don’t think he’s good enough, just my opinion, so any fee now is a bonus. I’d be surprised if we got over 500k plus a large sell on clause just in case.ShootersHillGuru said:

Even then, Ahadme had scored 11 goals in 29 appearances in League One in the previous season, against Kanu's 15 in 40 in League Two. So both had averaged around 1 goal every 2.6 games but Ahadme had done it a division higher. Plus, I'd argue scoring was a less important part of the role we signed Ahadme to play compared with the role teams would likely sign Kanu to play. Ahadme was only 2 years older than Kanu is now when we signed him.All that aside, I don't think Ahadme is a great benchmark for player valuations. A lot of people weren't happy when we signed him and felt we'd overpaid, and he's turned out to be a terrible piece of business. I don't think you can use him to justify a valuation of £1 million for Kanu, who's arguably been less successful so far than Ahadme had been when we signed him.1

I've got a sneaky feeling the midfielder could be Alex Gilbert. I hope its not, but feel like this is the area we are operating in. I would be disappointed if he was positioned as the 'marque' midfield signing, but in a way getting him in as a squad player on free to add some depth and give options. I remember at The Valley he was playing a little deeper for Boro and had a decent game, mind you had better players around him.8

I think it has got to the stage that there is so much input on this thread that it is getting longer more quickly than I can read and digest the comments. Still I can catch up on those dark winter evenings.2

People are also forgetting that he has scored at League 1 level and Alfie May even complimented him when he was years younger saying that he was the perfect striker to play with. That season he scored 6 goals in 30 apperances in the league with a lot of that under Micky Apples and being a substitute. When Jones came in, Kanu started scoring and starting with Alfie May. Whatever happened between Jones and Kanu that summer is another question as the next season he was reduced to a few cameos or not even in the match day squad ahead of Hylton.
So £1mill is not too much for someone with experience in the league, has been complimented from one of the top goal scorer in recent seasons, league 2 young player of the season last season whilst scoring 15 and is only 21.

The fee for Ahadame was undisclosed of course - but if I remember, it was hinted by ITK that it was actually around £400k .....plus various add-ons could bring the figure perhaps to nearer the £million mark.Garrymanilow said:

As he is still waiting for international selection and he never became our leading goalscorer, let alone any appearances milestones, I guess Ipswich are still hanging on hoping for maximum payout.
We did win promotion, of course, so that may have triggered a payment.1 -

Like he knows we’re almost there/there with one or two of our bigger targets.16 -

It will be behind closed doors, obviously, but I wonder if it'll be similar to when we played Palace at their training ground a couple of years ago.

Indeed. I was making reference to the fact that all though it had been talked about by Jones, and widely rumoured we had been looking at midfield players - posters on her seemed to think that our back room team completely missed our need for a player in this position.RC_CAFC said:
