I know the thread has gone off piste and is now the TC debate, but looking at it from a "mortimerwasgod" point of view, i loved Morts until he was played at left back i think through injuries etc in our relegation season in 89-90. He was utter guff but I would never abuse him as i knew he was out of position and doing his bit for the team. TC if we're honest rarely played in his natural position last year so didnt know if he was coming or going. Yes as a wingback he was shocking sometimes but do think giving dogs abuse will have no effect that's positive. Play him on the wing, limit his tracking back (yes i appreciate it's every wingers job these days too) and i reckon he will flourish. I'll be gutted if he leaves tbh.1

Personally, love TC and it is not at all his fault he was played out of his natural position a lot of last season which I think contributed to some mixed reactions at times - but in general “when the rhythm…” was sung more than less.Wingers traditionally blow hot and cold and many conserve energy in game in order to have a 6-12 blistering bursts of pace or a mazy dribble or two etc - watch Messi as a prime example even in his prime (who in the World bemoans his body language though at Galactico levels not Championship admittedly). Part of our problem is that our only threat was down that left and so too much was expected on one player. Snuff him out and we were snuffed out in a lot of games (particularly H2 of season).Anyway, if he has to go - note Grant and Alli both play LW or LCAM, then hopefully for a sizeable enough fee that we can get a JRS or the like replacement for the right hand side with Apter as back up (and who I don’t believe will disgrace himself in his NATURAL position).With the squad size as-is we knew something would have to give so if not him, would have to be a Doc or Cov or JRC + Tanto and Kanu.6

Without NJs development, belief and trust in TC, when many other didn’t, he would have been released a few summers ago.He still has a long way to go with his end product being more consistent but this new formation should really give him a lot more space to operate in. Plus being in London for him is a major factor.Not shocked to read there has been enquires. There was last summer too. So unless he’s asking for silly wages, then selling him becomes the only real option, I suspect his agent is doing what Greg Docherty did. Giving his name to journo to create rumours to force the clubs hand even more16

We have so far lost no one I wouldn’t have wanted to lose and brought in 3 players who definitely feel like upgrades. A bit of a wildcard in Alli and a very journeyman feel right back who apparently has an excellent attitude.
We still need more but the manager has already said that and we’ve only had about 60% of the window so far.9 -

I wasn’t saying it was just a Charlton thing, but as we were talking about Campbell I related it to Charlton. no it don’t .. it’s been a good window with players coming in better then we had which is what NJ told everyone .. two more coming in .. if TC goes not a great loss was it 3 assists all season .. think Apter given the same amount of games will have far better stats then that .. don’t see TC as a starter.

Regardless, the smart financial move is to pay him the money now so we can retain him, and then sell him in a year or 2 for much more money. We should be doing all we can to keep him and really pushing the boat out, if we’ve done that and he still won’t sign then fair enough2 -
