Charlton Athletic are reportedly weighing up a surprise move for Silkeborg winger Callum McCowatt as Nathan Jones looks to add creativity and attacking depth ahead of the new season.
Sources close to the club suggest Charlton's recruitment team have been monitoring the 27-year-old New Zealand international for several months, impressed by his versatility across the forward line and his experience in Scandinavian football.
While no formal bid has yet been submitted, it is understood that preliminary discussions have taken place regarding the financial viability of a deal. Silkeborg are believed to value McCowatt highly, but Charlton hope the player's desire for a new challenge could open the door to negotiations.

Also, when one of their clients is entering the new contract negotiations phase, any agent worth their salt will want to create interest in the market, even if only to strengthen their hand when negotiating with the player’s existing club. If you can find a club that needs to give the impression they’re being active and ambitious in the market despite not actually having any dogs, with which you can collide, all the better. TC, Lloydy, Ramsay all very well could move on and they all did enough last year to get decent Championship gigs. However, as others have said, so many chess pieces get moved during these negotiations and there’s lots of parties with competing priorities that use public noise to further their agendas, that none of it means much in isolation.I’d be equally unsurprised if they all left by next summer or all signed new deals.0
