The referee today was either
1)Registered blind
2)too cowardly to award the penalty
3)Bent
There is no way that is not a penalty he was 5 yards away,perfect view,also referees assistant,what a joke,they dont assist,just give offsides and throw ins,even on throw ins any 50-50 calls they wait for the ref to give the decision.
I am not moaning about the result,Norwich where good,they found space,passed the ball quickly and accurately,we did not.There goal should have been prevented but was not closed down,we did miss opportunities to score,but overall the better team won.This is the standard we must achieve to remain in this league and compete.I dont really think we are that far away,we have the defenders,we have the battling midfielders,in Kelman we have a striker who could well come good,plus Kanu coming back.We need the cool calculating midfielders who can put their foot on the ball and play at their pace,e.g. Norwich nos.21 and 25 who never seem hurried.They would cost money,so I await with baited breath the summer transfer dealings.4 -

Well morning after on reflection it did look like some of our players were a bit off of it.... Dykes, Carey, Cov, Chambers and Clarke for starters.
Not sure why, too many games? Lost heart going one down... Who knows but I expect much better from all of them in two weeks and there's no excuses then. We need to be at it from the off.
My only concern is Nathan... Will he make changes or stick... I hope after losing yesterday he does something especially with Kelman to start from the beginning or earlier than 6 mins to go.
Bristol will not roll over, they're not in good form and they're not exactly over the line themselves with 1 win in 6.
Hate waiting two weeks but if it gives some players a chance to recover then good as we are not safe yet and we need to look at it like 7 cup finals. I dread the thought of that league one again.

I think that yesterdays game highlighted the recruitment needed in the summer. I couldn't fault the players effort but we have seen quite a few teams who have visited the Valley who open us up with quick passing and good movement off the ball. Criticism of Campbell yesterday was harsh, Chambers provided nothing and was rightly pulled, when Campbell went to the wing back position, we looked a threat and he had the beating of both their wing back and covering defender. We certainly need to recruit better wing backs than currently in the squad, also the middle two of Coventry and Docherty is short of quality despite that pairing working their socks off. Up front is still open to question, as I believe you would see a better return in the goals column with better service. Lets get the points we need, remain in this division and build for the future.6

I think it was more option 2. The ref deemed the tug on the arm to be not that hard. He completely forgot to question why their player was tugging his arm at all but he was that sort of ref. As Nathan Jones said, that was a foul anywhere else on the pitch. That explains it. I said to my brother he was going to ignore their time wasting at the end and he did. I did have a line in recent seasons that we can't complain about the refs too much in League One because it is our fault we were in League One. We have gone up and the standard of refereeing is just as bad, if not worse. I think there is a crisis in refereeing generally, even at the higher levels. It is sad as it takes away from the game. I am a great believer in punishment for poor refs and I hope yesterday's gets that. He deserves it.

Norwich looked soooo much more comfortable on the ball than us and they moved with purpose forward .
Their support was impressive and sung a lot , our team like plenty of our fans have zero personality and I can only guess that’s why the majority are on TC’s case because yes he’s a bit lame at times but he is the only one with any creative instinct to go at the oppo and offer a threat and we can’t have any excitement when we can pass it sideways and backwards zzzzz
It says it all when our best attacking threat is Delap’s Clarke’s throws in to the opposition penalty area .

Our main problems:
We're too slow and too defensive.
We have three central defenders, two defensive wing-backs, a midfield three where two of them (out of Coady/Coventry/Docherty) are defensive, covering the back line) with Carey nominally playing the centre-half forward role but having to drop too deep to get the ball, with some combo of Leaburn/Dykes and TC/Kelman up top ... and even then the big men (especially Miles) have to drop deep to help out.
When we do get the ball it takes an eternity for anyone to get forward to help TC ... who then gets pelters for no end product.
I'm assuming that this is by instruction from the Rev Jones and not just a collective introverted team as I'm sure there are some attacking instincts in these players bursting to be unleashed.7 -
Bit of a strange one really. Norwich were the better side overall and could have scored more, but at the same time we weren’t far off nicking a draw, especially if the ref had given that penalty — looked a stonewaller to me.
Feels like we’ve had a poor record against Norwich at home in recent years as well. I don’t think we’ve beaten them here since the 4–2 back in 2009?

Norwich were the better team. The movement of players off the ball and their quickness in which they moved it was so much better than us. It’s our first year up but we have to improve on that next year.
although we could have nicked a point when he hit the bar we got what we deserved. In the last 5 games we have created about two chances from open play.
But…….surely even the die hardest of their 6 finger brigade must agree that we were denied the most blatant penalty all season.0 -
I have had doubts about the whole wingback system and some aspects of Nathan Jones tactics, selections and style of play. I fully admit it’s not pretty at times, although there are flashes of more entertaining play.
However,
He got us promoted from the horror that is league one after a truly dreadful decade - I know this isn’t something which altogether excuses mistakes now, but this is really recent and a real achievement
He has kept us up when the step from League One to the Championship is larger than ever. Frankly I would rather stay up and get the points than play pretty football and be back in league one! Although I don’t think it’s an either or situation- It’s still in essence a L1 team.
I think it’s fairly obvious that the owners are in it for the long haul and have spent money where and when it matters. They are clearly still learning however. I would far rather have sustainable development than the reckless spending and boom and bust of some of our competitors, especially after the last decade.
I have no problem whatsoever with discussion, debate about the manager, players tactics etc - it’s a football forum after all!
I do find reminiscence for football two or three decades ago very irritating however. I also find the borderline glee from some lifers when we don’t turn in a good performance baffling. Especially since some freely admit they no longer attend, often appearing to revel in a “ I told you so’ repetition of the obvious. We know we need a better team and recruitment, we know we need greater depth, we know we need some finishers and we know we need more flexibility from the manager of occasions. Personally I think if we stay up, carefully build a championship squad and make sustainable investments, that at least some of those concerns will abate

Jones may be forced into changes done the left as Bell and Cambell may be playing for Jamaca on 31st March If Jamaca reach the playoff final, with Charlton playing on the Friday that gives them very little time to recover.0

Good post - pretty much sums it up - if people want pretty football they can either stick with us until such time that our squad has developed enough to do that or they can go and watch another local side much further down the pyramid playing in a division where maybe they have a better squad than the norm and are able to do that. Norwich are a decent team. I think people sometimes forget that they are much better than their league table position shows, because of their horrendous start to the season under Manning.
Looking at the form table, they're 3rd in the last 6 games, and 3rd in the last 10 games, just behind Soton and Coventry.
