Is that with the 18m budget?RonnieMoore said:To finish around 12th - 14th would be our target next season2 -
Seat number stickers in the West Stand.Might as well be employed by the club for directing the lost newbies with their half and half scarves in the wrong direction every match…who buys those things

Copy Coventry City, end of. Think they finished 16th on their first year back in the Championship (although they are bigger than us).3 -

They mention the u18 game being afterwards so it sounds like it’s purposely been planned that way.Stig said:

Gavin, right now what would benefit Charlton Athletic most. The purchase of the Valley and Sparrows Lane to bring those facilities in house, or category one status for the Academy.
Or could we get both?1 -

All great points, especially concerning fans patience, but we kind of know a lot of the answers. Carter has said he aims for our player budget to get to mid table in 3 years time. That means a modest increase from last year. From bottom three to perhaps bottom six, I can't imagine it's much more than that.Lincsaddick said:Same old song I'm afraid, all depends on what we (the board) can rustle up to spend. Be good to get another money man or three onto the board, chaps who are keen to invest in this super, progressive, ambitious club. We are always looking for committed investors.
At a minimum, we will give Nathan Jones the capital to strengthen the side, either to cement ourselves as a Championship club or to be more ambitious and to make a stab at the play offs. All depends on the Money Money and Money we can make available
My job is to ensure that whatever money is allocated to signings and player contracts, is better spent than the money given last summer which was mostly wasted
We need to ensure that players like L. Jones, Ramsay, Edwards (if fully fit) and Carey are given contracts lucrative enough to keep them at the club, we need to be very selective in who we sign and for how long. To ensure that all signings new and old are fully fit and not potentially injury prone passengers. All areas of the team need strengthening. A striker who actually scores a few is a priority.
I expect to see a quite large turnover in players. Many of the current squad are not good enough. This will happen irrespective of funding, we will cut out coats according to the quality of the 'cloth' we can afford.
Our scouts need to thoroughly assess their targets. Access to a quality player database would be fanstastic, although the 'data dons' would need paying very well for such access.
We, the board must let the player management manage whilst still overseeing how our money is spent
Survival as a Championship club is imperative as a minimum. We also need to play a more attractive form of the game whilst still maintaining a strong defence. All this won't come cheap and will need a lot of effort from everyone at the club. We will also need the fans to be as patient and generous as they have been for the past years.
You say money was wasted last summer on L1 recruits but I would argue they were the best we could afford at the time and the failure rate of those players making the step would have been built into the plan. We got excited about the amount of money that was spent on fees last summer, but that money is spread over the duration of their contracts, not just a season and in theory some of that money will be recouped if the player is sold, and that will be accounted for. The real test if a team can compete in the Championship is the wages budget. You offer the better wages you attract the better players and as we know with Kaminski the highest paid player on £20k a week, we're a long way off being able to compete for proven, talented Championship players.
Playing more attractive football is a goal, but I'm happy to grind it out to stay in this division and wait for the funds to arrive. I'm also hoping Chapple will make a difference this summer. Last year he'd just arrived and I think we went for players he knew well, most of them from his old club Luton. Now he's had a year to study and work with the brief he must be better prepared.2 -

It won't be a big number, because not many will go to that match and not many are overly interested in boardroom machinations. And it's Friday evening so most normal people will be gearing themselves up for whatever they normally do with their Friday evenings. The point is not about numbers per se, but that there's likely to be a cross-over in the audiences for both.Stu_of_Kunming said:

Worth reading Rich Cawley's latest substack for a transcript of what Gavin Carter said about the board's plans this summer and beyond or you can watch it on CharltonTV.
Mainly player based.1 -
I really hope we aren’t going to be waiting for players to leave before we can bring players in. Realistically a lot of our deadwood is going to be tough to shift, and will probably leave in August when our demands on wages and fees drop to the level where clubs will do the deal.Henry Irving said:Worth reading Rich Cawley's latest substack for a transcript of what Gavin Carter said about the board's plans this summer and beyond or you can watch it on CharltonTV.
Mainly player based. We need to be more proactive and signings in early, even if we end up with a “bomb squad” of players training away from the first team until we find them moves, because we’ve got too many players. We might need that anyway with 29 players contracted already0 -

Non-Executive Chairman Gavin Carter joined the CharltonTV monthly panel's end-of-season special to discuss the club’s plans and priorities over the summer.
Carter outlined that the club’s objective for their second season in the Sky Bet Championship is to keep moving forward and building on the foundations that have already been put in place.
"We’ve got a five-year plan," he explained. "We had one before in League One, we executed that ahead of schedule so we reset the five-year plan. The first year we’ve achieved our objective.
"We got more fans in the stadium than we had targeted, which is great, so thank you to everybody. Already we’ve generated more revenue from [2026/27] season tickets than we did all of last season - we’re ahead on season tickets which is fantastic because we can’t execute this plan without the supporters. The second year of the plan is to continue to build.
"We have a lot of work to do. As you can see from the player released list, there are not many players that are out of contract. We've got to look at the squad. If we're going to bring in players then we've got to move some players on, which isn’t easy.
"Commercial revenues are doing well, well up on last year. We’ve got a couple of things which we’ll be announcing shortly in terms of partnerships which is exciting. Next year we want to be even more competitive than we were this year in the Championship. The play-offs coming down to eighth position, so a third of the league now has an opportunity to compete to go to the Premier League - that's exciting for us. We’re managing expectations and next year is another year where we're going to build. We’re going to keep improving all aspects of the football club."
CharltonTV host Scott Minto asked Carter how he believes the ownership group and the Board need to approach the club’s summer business.
"I think you have to be pretty ruthless and this is tough. It's a great group of players that have got us this far and there are a lot of youngsters in there as well who have been with us for a long time. There's a team there which is making the choice about what the squad needs to be," he said.
"Players are under contract which is great. When Global Football Partners came in, the squad was in a terrible state in terms of contracts. Players weren’t under contract, so assets were leaving without being monetised. People didn’t want to play here and now they want to play here.
"We believe we have some assets there and we know where we need to strengthen. We will be ruthless. There are some obvious positions we need to strengthen where we had loan players come in for the second half of the season.
"We need more up front. We didn’t score enough goals this year and that's painfully obvious. In the middle of the park, we don’t just want to rely on Sonny Carey. We need to make sure that we’re carrying the ball and we’re what Nathan [Jones] wants us to be - fluid and aggressive.
"But I don’t think there is one area of the pitch we can’t improve. That has got to be the mentality. But there were clearly some areas of the squad, where there were loan players, that we would like to bring in squad players for next season," he added.
The club appointed Richard Law to the club's board as a Non-Executive Director earlier this month and Carter explained what he'll bring to Charlton.
He said: "You’ve got to strengthen the squad, you’ve got to strengthen the Board, so we’ve added another independent director here, someone that clearly has a lot of experience and knows what elite looks like. Part of our vision statement is to be elite and Richard is someone who knows what good looks like. He’s been around and he’s got a very international view on things. We’ve been expanding the recruitment team - Collins [Sichenje] is a good example that we brought in from Serbia. We want to look more internationally and he’s someone that can bring experience of what international trading looks like.
"Dick’s role isn’t to select or choose players. He, like me, will look at governance structures and make sure we're doing what the process says we should do. It's about assuring that those processes are being undertaken."
