I thought he was talking about Tyreece Campbelll...?se9addick said:
I know I shouldn’t engage but… do you seriously think Coventry is one of the best midfielders in the division? He’s not even one of the best midfielders at Charlton!RonnieMoore said:
We are not selling one of the top 3 keepers and in this division and one of best midfielders in this division who we turned down a bid for in January .. ridiculousGarrymanilow said:
Why? The ones we have in contract we can hopefully get a fee for. A bit of money for Gillesphey, Mannion/Kaminski, Coventry, Mitchell and (in a magical world) Ahadme is all money that can be put back into signings. For lots of the deadwood there’s little incentive to do the hard yards to find a new club. We need to be actively flogging them.valleynick66 said:The real list we want (but won’t ever get) is who has been told to find another club or accept not being involved.

Quite a few of that lot will be sold,Scoham said:

There’s several expiring in a year:
Mannion
Asiimwe
Jones
Mitchell x 2
Ramsay
Gillesphey
Coventry
Docherty
Kanu1 -
I’m just checking that everyone knows the list is purely who’s out of contract and won’t be offered a new deal, and not the list of players the club wants to retain.A few people expressing disappointment that we haven’t offloaded more players have either completely misunderstood the situation or are on a wind up17
-
This is just really an interim update, jones conversations would also have been to players that are under contract that he wants them to move on. We wont announce those until a deals done.3
-
Will jones ever change?!CafcSteve said:Disappointed that we’re still in talks with Dykes, as don’t think that he’s someone we should be after if looking to change our style of play.
all fans of ex clubs he has managed have come to the valley and sung ‘your football is sh!t’ and, it still is!He just needs to get the quality in to make his shit football effective2 -
We may need to temper our expectations a bit. We’re not suddenly going to sign top end championship players who have options to play higher up the league. We still need to build something and that’s likely to involve some unknowns in the short term.5

Who we can sign will inextricably be linked to who we can get rid of.TheHerminator said:We may need to temper our expectations a bit. We’re not going to attract top talent yet. We probably need to be a solid mid table club for a while before people take a proper punt on us1 -

Exactly what I expected, give or take negotiating with Dykes.
Just a reminder, we can't "release" players under contract. But I expect we'll see a fair few moved on, either via loan or sale.
We have the start of a decent squad for next year, but we have a lot of players who I expect to be far more squad players than they were this season, particularly in midfield. I think up front, who stays and who goes (probably on loan) between Leaburn, Mbick, and Kanu will be one of the storylines of the summer. I expect we'll keep one around unless two really blow NJ away with their development. Right now my money is on Mbick sticking around, with Leaburn second and my guess is Kanu goes to L1 on loan. But we'll see.
Bigger things to come. I was not expecting this to be particularly interesting. I would have been worried if we'd tried to retain Berry, but he goes with my best wishes having score some vital goals (Leyton Orient home, Wycombe away with a screamer, and his brace last year, Hull away this year was massive as well). Terry Taylor, we hardly knew ye, but given he was relegated from League One quite handily I think we can conclude that he wasn't the player we hoped for when we signed him--and I suspect years of injuries probably played a role in that.
Bring on the summer. Expect it will be a few weeks before we really see business ramp up, and expect everything will be delayed by the World Cup, but it would be nice to have Godden and Dykes signed before then. I would then look to add one more forward potentially, though I think our biggest uptick in scoring will need to come from better service out wide and in midfield--which is where the big money will need to be spent this offseason.4 -
He wasn’t on about Mannion & TC!RonnieMoore said:

Well that was a bit meh but I didn't think we'd see 20 players leaving either.
Nathan probably shouldn't have used the word 'ruthless' as it raised a tiny expectation that we would see more than just two players leaving.
However, perhaps the ruthlessness was possibly him telling players like Adhadme and others that they have no future role and to look for new clubs...as we haven't got owners that can simply pay off contracts.
As for Dykes and Godden it has to be Godden, as I've said before he deserves a good contract, we simply wouldn't be in this Division without him.
Only problem I can see happening is will any new signings have to be after a few leave the building first and then you would worry about what would be left to buy?

Again, this is just players out of contract. Jones can’t suddenly shorten players contractspeterreeves said:Well that was a bit meh but I didn't think we'd see 20 players leaving either.

This is why it’s a project, unless the owners want to pump in cash. We wanted stability, and didn’t expect promotion last year, it was supposed to be this year and build on that squad for the upcoming season. I think I’m being a year early has resulted in us having some players around for one year too long in the Championship. I can’t imagine we’ll be getting much in fees for the players we’d want to offload - I think they’d be happy to let them go on frees if the other team picks up all the salary.I don’t think we can just pay them off, as they’d insist on paying up the full value of the contract, and I think that would accelerate the full value into the current financial year, with implications for FFP, or whatever it’s called now.0

An asteric against those players Jones wants out would be good
Surprised he wants to keep Dykes and i really hope they do a deal on Godden0 -
Every time I pass the merch stall outside The Valley, my son and I keep an eye out for the Gassan scarf the guy is selling. Each match he takes the time and effort to put in on display, packing it away at the end, only for it to return again for the next game. I wonder if at some point he will just think, fuck it, this will never sell, and toss it in the bin? Maybe mark it as a sale item, get a token quid for it?ParkinsonOut said:shirty5 said:
🤦🏻♀️😩30 players in contract as it stands heading into next season. Good luck trying to ship a fair few of those out the door. Fingers crossed that there are clubs who are shopping in SE7 for cheap deals
Ahadme - 2 years remaining

Wonder if we have an extension clause for Ahadme if he comes good!swords_alive said:A list of player names without Chuks Aneke still doesn't feel right. Hopefully a deal can yet be done prior to the new season.2 -
Now that I'd pay to see! Maybe even Players in the Stocks. £5 a bag of rotten tomatoes? All proceeds to Upbeats, that way the players can't really say no without looking like a ****. That could even be a more popular half-time watch than the Crossbar Challenge.se9addick said:

So long as we retain the invaluable services of Ahadme im satisfied with this decision.0
-
Well yes, that's the point. Used to be lots of 2 year contracts for players or legacy players we spent too much on and couldn't get rid of whose contracts were finally up. There's only really one contract in there that was a real error and that's Ahadme. The contracts have been planned out much better in recent years and the signings have been much better so we don't have to rebuild every season like in the past. Handing out the right length contracts to players is a big part of getting a transfer strategy rightvalleynick66 said:

It's all a far cry from yesteryear when players were routinely having to sign a new contract with their club. Gary Nelson's autobiography "Left Foot Forward" is great at describing what players went through in securing a new contract.5

So on a practical note I wonder if the conversations with the players this week are with or without agents present?
Just curious as if a player is told you are free to look to get away because you aren’t in the plans presumably the agent needs to know what sort of fee is or isn’t being sought for those under contract.0 -
we're stuck with a load of deadwood who were given contracts that were too long .. surely there must be discussions going on with the agents of some of our recent loanees0
