I know this game's only a friendly but It's time Jones stopped fannying around with systems everyone knows he's not going to play once the season kicks off. Fully expect to see McNamara and Campbell playing wing backs in a 5-3-2 formation today.
I think most people have now realised that the 352 is being replaced as the primary formation by the 4231. The signings we have made so far point to this, and using it in all 3 friendlies so far backs that up.

Once again the only important thing today is no injuries … going to be hot playing today

That seems to be the plan. Whether it actually works given our recruitment to date and how we looked in the Championship last year when we played a more open formation is another matter. If it doesn't it's back to square pegs and round holes...

Against Hull, we played a more open formation and was one of the best home performances of the season.  Hopefully we can be flexible and change formation based on opponents.

I always thought the best way to approach friendlies was to treat the last couple as your first league games and build towards this. Jones doesn;t do this and it is impossible to read anything into them other than fitness exercises. Still I watch them.

I would like to see us trying to build a relationship between Grant and Leaburn as they look like our starting strikers.

Hopefully the Hull game is a better indicator of how it can work for us than the following game was at Swansea.

Btw with that Hull game in mind has anyone heard anything about Jayden Fevrier? It felt like there was quite a bit of momentum behind getting him signed up but he hasn't been mentioned on here for weeks.

Stockport appear to have only played one Pre-Season Friendly so far by the looks of things
They beat Bristol City 2-0 in Spain last Friday, with Jayden scoring the second goal of the game
So guess the new Manager is wanting to take a look at him

Looks like building up minutes for players again, presumably we’ll have a settled side vs Reading?

No DannyMac or Grant which is puzzling

Coventry and Docherty both starting this close to the season starting is a bit of a worry.

    Kaminski
    Asiimwe Jones Koumetio Bell
    Docherty Coventry
    Fullah Carey Campbell
    Leaburn

    Second half/60 mins team

    Brooks
    Ramsay Burke Gough Mesík
    Mwamba Rankin-Costello
    Enslin Knibbs Olaofe
    Godden

No Grant, no Trialist, no Kelman, no Mannion, no Edwards, no McNamara, no Apter

Presume most aren't fit or injured, Mannion is the surprise as Jones said he'd feature "100%" this game and he's missing again

Wonder if Redmond is off or if we're just looking at different things in the wide areas

Expect Asiimwe, Enslin and Kanu to not be in the squads by August, hopefully Gough, Mwamba and Fullah are fringe bench options at most, any more and we're not looking strong enough in depth

I mean from the current crop who do you want to see starting ahead of them?
If they cant start games with current options, then that would be a bigger worry for me
    No Apter though...?

The first thing that springs to mind seeing that line-up:
When will Jones realise that Bell can’t seem to play left-back or left wing-back any more?

When he gets injured and is out for 2 months again and we are down to just Mesik as Edwards is still nowhere near fit…

Jones said the the other players who didn’t get sixty minutes in the last game would start today.

This line-up suggests to me that Jones, Koumetio and Coventry are guaranteed starters against Derby.

I think these two elevens could play out a 0-0 between them.

Just sums up how badly we need central midfield quality in the building and width looking at that.

I really hope Mwamba takes his opportunity to rip it up today and show he is worth keeping around the matchday squad this season I have a feeling this kid is going to go very far

Just my opinion but I don't rate him and Docherty as a partnership.
Docherty played his best football last season when Coady replaced Coventry.
I think he’s OK as a squad player but not good enough to start.

I know after Gillingham he mentioned that Apter had “Bone Bruising” but that was a fair few days ago now. just seems real bizarre that he’s not even in the squad.

Grant and McNamara not being included is really odd also. Surely you need them playing ASAP even if it’s just 15 mins at the end.
