    Because the ones that are half decent are already around the first team, like Fullah, Mwamba, Enslin and Gough. Anderson and Asiimwe too are still "under 21" players, I'd imagine a team with those 6 in it are a very different prospect 
    Plus most of the u21 squad are effectively u19s - the majority were u18s last season. I expect they'll get plenty of u21 minutes this season and won't even be seen as ready to go out on loan.

    Gough didn’t have much to do to be honest but was fine, Fullah looked like our most dangerous player 1st half but still looks incredibly lightweight, Asiimwe looked alright not bad not amazing. Mwamba was the standout easily

    Brownie was quite interesting on how he needed full 90s to get match fit for the season, whereas Rufus didn't. With the size of modern squads, I do sometimes think we don't play enough games to get the full squad match fit. Or enough minutes, with the 45/45 or 60/30 splits.

    It gets messy because spectators are invited, but for our final game at Reading for example it would be much better for there to be an 80 minute game between one set of Charlton and Reading players, followed immediately by another 80 minute game featuring the rest of them, as that way all the players can have decent minutes, and not just the starting 11.

    Didn't we have a similar thing last season, or maybe 2 season ago, where we played 4 30 min quarters?

    What I was looking for was a young potential stars going up a level. That happens to two or three of them and we can't match that with signings. I didn't see any of that. Fullah looked ok but his touch wasn't great and he was no better than last season. This is a season where Leaburn and Campbell could make a big step up. But looks like they won't so far. Id put Kelman in that category to. I like the look of Mwamba but he is a year behind.

    There will probably be a behind-closed-doors training ground friendly for those that don’t play at Reading. Usually how they do it

    I think it's too early to judge if they will be able to step up or not from the few minutes we've seen so far in pre season.

    I think it's too early to judge if they will be able to step up or not from the few minutes we've seen so far in pre season. 
    I suppose so. I just wanted to see a much better first touch from Fullah for instance.

    I’ll be honest I worked late and only watched the second half after the changes and by then it seemed to be mostly the youngsters with a couple of the newbies and a couple of the first teamers and players coming back from injury . Struggle to get interested with friendlies

    The second half team, which was what it was by the time I tuned in. Neghli the only first team regular. Sykes, Metcalfe and Baggott are newbies. The rest are U21 players. Oh, Jenson in goal, has just came back from being out injured for over a year.

    Only pre season ‘friendly’ I can remember actually enjoying in recent years was that one against you lot a few years back. Good atmosphere, decent game of football, and it actually felt like it meant a little something to the fans. Most of the time they’re pony.

    My main point was that pre-season results mean very little. And our fans overreacting to only beating Gillingham 1-0 were being quite silly (as would any Millwall fans overreacting now after tonight, as I’m sure there are some). It has no bearing on the season whatsoever

    We were very good in that game, but then went on to lose 5 of our first 6 games and had a terrible season 

    The year after we lost to league 2 Wimbledon in pre-season, and went on to get promoted. Just shows how little the results actually mean

    I wonder if the Charlton TV feed will be either non existent or useless as it was last week and how it often is.
    No commentary and ambient sound would be OK though if the Charlton voices are cut off because somebody treads on the microphone wire.
    Steve Brown is a nice guy but his ‘expert analysis’ is often repetitive lacking insight and depressing and he talks over interesting action. He could up his game a considerable amount, although Terry Smith has actually improved season by season.
    However ambient crowd and player noise with no commentary replicates the authentic experience of actually being there.

    I am a Charlton fan so do have to watch (if the feed is working).
    Muting the sound loses the crowd noise and players shouting.

    I went to the pre season there just after Godden signed, as well as going there for the Innis game.
    I am unable to go today because of an injury believe it or not, so stuck with the feed if it works,

    I know this game's only a friendly but It's time Jones stopped fannying around with systems everyone knows he's not going to play once the season kicks off. Fully expect to see McNamara and Campbell playing wing backs in a 5-3-2 formation today.
