    It’s the only system this squad can play.  It protects the defenders and it ensures the midfielders’ lack of ability is masked .  It’s the smart thing to do - I don’t blame Jones for that, as much as I can’t stand him 
    It might be the only system the squad can play but it's not the system we've recruited for and that's the rub.

    TC trying to up the tempo, good to see. I know some don’t rate him but until we sign a couple of dangerous wingers he’s an important player for us.

    Also think it’s notable that we made a bright start in the first half, did well immediately after the drinks break and are moving it quicker here too. The players clearly take the instructions well but can’t sustain it for some reason

    That one definitely wasn’t on him, he did well to stop the initial shot but the defence have to be more alive

    Don’t like to read too much into preseason, but this formation switch worries me until we strengthen out wide and in central midfield. Ideally need two wingers and two CMs but I’m expecting to be disappointed.

    Feels way too much like square pegs in round holes to be playing this shape currently.

    Great example there of that extra bit of quality lacking - Coventry sprays a nice ball over to TC, but he has to try to control with his head and loses it.

    The right idea but better players weight that pass better, and read and control it better.

    Everyone has known we needed two CMs and wingers since last season. Still plenty of time left but you'd would be nice to bring them in fairly soon

    Neither of them are just mistakes by him, it's lack of awareness and anticipation from the defence.
