If we defend like yesterday we go down and we have to stop conceding corners/freekicks from careless mistakes. Embarrassing at times...

    Ramsay was shocking yesterday

Until his senseless red card against Millwall, Ramsay could walk on water with the Charlton fan base.
TBF he was excellent and deserved the praise but I noticed one match sometime before the Millwall home game when he did a swing and a miss in the six yard box and he got away with it. I was the only poster to mention it because Kayne couldn't do any wrong with most fans before costing CAFC the win in the home derby; Plus he had a shocker down the Den.

Against Reading, Ramsay had such an erratic game:
3 needless corners given away, a simple pass going under his feet, and generally looking lethargic. Kayne did some good work but nothing that will make his showreel.
Ramsay is a Championship level player but maybe the OTT praise went to his head and he needs to buckle down and forget any Torino link because if he plays to the standard he reached before, then in the winter window or at the end of 26/27 season he can move on but not if he keeps making sloppy mistakes and emulates a Harrogate standard defender !

Kayne needs to be careful not to go down the Michael Hector path. Hector had the assets to be a very good centre back, and had some good clubs too, but was let down by a lack of concentration and casualness.

I agree with this. He is without doubt a Championship level player and one of our best players, but the step up last season wasn’t as seamless as I thought it would be after he completely cruised L1. TC gets pelters but I would say he adjusted no differently to the Championship than Ramsay - a lot of good, but a struggle at times. I think they would both absolutely thrive at better teams btw.

I had the opportunity a couple of years back to talk to various scouts on a few occasions while watching  matches arranged by an independent football academy for 16-18 year olds.
Despite some representing National league Premier and others Championship clubs the common denominator was can the young players concentrate for long periods, first touch and spacial awareness.(Did they scan the pitch)
They were all raving about the keeper because he was so good with his feet and was a sweeper keeper and he was a shot stopper.
The lad did end up at Brentford but it wasn't until he had a growth spurt and reached the minimum height for a keeper of 5ft 11in !

They expected the youngsters to be raw and I wonder how a young Kayne would've been rated if he put in an erratic performance like on Saturday.
The fact that Ramsay had to leave London and go to the hotbed of football in Harrogate tells me he hadn't impressed enough scouts and coaches in his youth and into his 20's.

I still want him to stay and show the qualities he showed at Bristol city and not Millwall away or the brain freeze at home to our nemesis.

It's my opinion that a good goalie would have saved all 3 of their efforts.
Kaminski didn't move for the first goal, but he stood motionless and watched the ball enter the net.

The 2nd was a header that he moved for far too late and looked reluctant to dive.

The 3rd, he once again stood motionless and watched the ball sail into the net.

He also did his best to let in an earlier goal, by his favourite move of palming out a weak effort in to the perfect finishing area for an opposition striker.

I'd like a better keeper than the 2 we have, but if it's a choice between the 2 then Mannion has to play.
Mannion got his chance at the end of last season, did better than OK against Watford, lost us points practically every other game.

I think we will be ok -

I think we will beat Derby on the opening day -

It's going to be a more extreme season in terms of results.

Slander! Hec was el perfecto. A titan of defensive perfection and persistent action. His godly spirit will haunt The Valley pitch for eternity as he sleep forever in centre-back elysium!

We've lost 3-0 to Reading and 2-0 to Wimbledon this pre-season. I know that they are only friendly matches but it's not a good look. Do we have cause for concern?

We don't know what the training regime was on match day. I suspect most were knackered due to a hard morning session and apparently several were ill.

Supposedly there was/is a game today. Don't suppose anyone has heard anything since NJ mentioned it?

We're currently beating Barcelona 6-0, using an experimental team with Kaminski out on the right wing and Docherty in goal.

All 6 of our goals have been scored by Leaburn, who will now be joining Barcelona straight after the match for £30m

Interesting that we appeared to have a full training day too, I wonder if there was a number of players that didn't really show up in that, that played a bigger role in the game

I’m sure someone with time on their hands could do a list of players missing from the training video. Kanu wasn’t in it and I don’t think Tanto was.

Other possibility is Apter and Mbick were doing individual work because they weren’t ready for the match

    Charlton vs Charlton, we lost
For older people, a pre season friendly was billed as a game between "The Probables" and "The Possibles"

It may be that they're on two a days still. That the training footage was from the morning and that the match is in the afternoon/evening.

I suspect that's the case for some of the PSFs where they at least do a light session in the AM followed by a game in the PM. I'd be a little surprised if they're still doing it this late on. But I really don't know, I'm just guessing here.

With the programme listing what colour knickers they would be playing in, I'm being serious.

That all finished with Trevor Francis, England's first million-pound footballer. He wore a mink-lined jockstrap but no knickers.

So the game yesterday was an U21 game away at Ipswich that we won 2 - 1 but some, unnamed, first teamers played to give them  minutes.

So who was missing from the Inside Training video? @Crispywood on the rumours thread said it was Brooks, Asiimwe, Sichenje, Edwards, Fullah, Tanto, Godden, Kelman, Kanu. All of them could feasibly be getting minutes beyond maybe Kelman. Edwards would be a push but would be great if he'd got 10 minutes

So no Edwards (no surprise), Fullah, Godden or Tanto. I’m guessing they just weren’t in the video but were training
