It’s too f***ing hot

I did try to take the discussion off the main forum, but several posters have made unfair criticisms of me. I try never to be abusive, but to back up what I say with facts. We're living in a very polarised, divided world.AFKABartram said:Some of you need to take a deep breath and a step back.
It was started as a light hearted topic. Ironically, it’s got too heated!
seriously, just chill out (sh* I’ve done it again)7 -

Always interesting to hear about people's personal experiences on a matter.arthur said:
In 2026 my rooftop solar has reduced my elecricity bills by £450. Its not great in winter but the infrastructure associated with it has allowed me to save a further £700 on cheap rate night charging the batteries for the house and heat pump. Might get close to £3k savings this year as electricity prices increase.CaptainRobbo said:

and the solar runs our air conditioning when we need it. Last week my g/f complained our house was too effing cold!1 -

Hi Fanny. You and I have always operated on some level of mutual respect and we've always got on. I hope you take the post I am about to make in that spirit - and as you were unhappy to get a DM, even referencing it in a reply to Len where ME14 hadn't even been part of the previous chain of messages, I'm just going to do it out in the open.Fanny Fanackapan said:

Watch out for a pm from "the usual suspects" with "proof" that you are seriously misguided in querying the statstics & that they're concerned for your wellbeing & gullibility...
Yes, really ! Welcome to my world.
My response ( oh & AI was even utilised to "prove " their points) was to quote Mark Twain.
" Lies, damned lies & statistics "
You really don't do yourself any favours do you . Just can't leave it alone. Making "sure" you cover all angles just in case.....
I'm seriously tempted to share your arrogant " know it all" lecture on here so that others can share my contempt of you & your fellow supporter.
Un feckin believable.
Well, actually NOT unbelievable seeing you didn't learn your lesson with the covid thread.....
Merely seriously deluded.
Don't feel sorry for me ( as you piously stated )
I'd respectfully suggest those "kind" words would be more gratefully received closer to home.
It looks like you are sceptical about the scientific consensus on climate change. On the General Things That Annoy You thread, it also looks like you have certain views on another topic (that I won't bring to this thread here) that would be - for instance - directly at odds with my own.
Neither of those viewpoints are ones I agree with, but obviously, you're entitled to hold them.
What I will say is that the overlap between climate change denial and other (potentially) prejudiced viewpoints is a known phenomenon, and my sources are here: Link 1 and Link 1b, with 1b the study that informs the article in 1a, and Link 2. This could be for a variety of reasons. Whatever.
But what ends up happening, is that I end up receiving messages.
These are the DMs that I receive, thankfully not on CL:
- "You're a fucking weird mixed meat mutt and a faggot. [...] I pray you rope" (NB rope in this context is internet slang meaning "kill yourself", and is used to get around social media hate speech detectors)
- "You are not European. You will never be European."
- "Deport" (followed by a series of rice emojis)
That's just in the last week. There are countless more that I just move on from.
These people, these trolls, are real. Some of them I've been able to find identifying information on, when I'm in the mood. And this is because they are motivated and empowered to be so overtly racist because of your Farages, your Robinsons, your Lowes.
Fanny - if that's where your vote is going, to the parties of those I've just mentioned - remember the people you are getting into bed with. Remember that it's people like me who are being made to feel unsafe - people who you might have always thought are "the right kind of immigrant".

AFKA, Ali, mods - I'm so sorry to have taken this thread to this point, but... this is fucking me up at the moment man, that people I know and like are being sucked in by rhetoric that is going a long way to making me feel unsafe in the country I was born in, and in the skin I live.25 -
£3k savings per annum on electricity alone sounds very impressive.arthur said:

and the solar runs our air conditioning when we need it. Last week my g/f complained our house was too effing cold! How much do you / did you pay pre solar as that sounds like a huge annual bill ? I can only assume your heating is electric ie not gas and you live in a large property. My only concern with solar for most domestic users is the long payback window so I think the mooted mobile plug in things which apparently should hit the shelves this year make this an option for more households (albeit they only generate moderate amounts of energy).0 -
I looked at solar and batteries a few years back, payback was supposedly 12 years…… although the report said budget to replace the battery every 10, so not sure i’d ever recoup the outlay.
to the poster who says may save £3k this year, blimey, what are you doing/how bigs your house!? I thought my bill was bad at about £1500 a year….0 -

Sorry you feel like this, maybe don’t engage/post on threads or forums that make you feel like that or where you get abusive messages? Life can be difficult enough as it is. Take yourself out of the situations, life’s too short, do what you enjoy with people you enjoy spending time with.
this thread was started about a week of sweating temperatures, sadly I was on the beach in Cyprus so missed it (a mere 29 degrees).1 -

As the father of a 'mixed meat mutt' I really hope when he's as old as Paddy, the world might have advanced a little bit further than 'don't use the internet' as a way to stay safe and free from racial abuse.Rob7Lee said:PaddyP17 said:Fanny Fanackapan said:

Now that I’m no longer hot I’m going to close this now as I can’t see what could be achieved positively from it. First thread I think we’ve had to close this year.
Paddy - I’m so sorry you have to experience that. Awful. Social media has created and encouraged a massive race to the bottom and there are some truly vile people that should not have access to it.14
