F'ing hells bells it was hot this last week.  Why does it always feel hotter in England at low-mid 30s than when I've been elsewhere in the world when its been low 40s?!

Mightily relieved this was my only commuting day in this week.
It could well be due to humidity. I live in Australia, down south in Victoria. We get summer days over 37 centigrade but, its a dry heat. Ive been in north australia when its only been 27 but humid and its horrible.
To be fair, you're probably right there.  We just came back from Singapore and Bali and the humidity was ridiculous.  Thats the only time I've been abroad where I've proper disliked the heat and was not rushing to sit out in the sun.
Did you visit Ubud? That place was torture to me - sweatier than Rik Waller at an all you can eat buffet 24/7

How about we park the climate change debate and just go back to lighthearted anecdotes about this mini heatwave

I bet AFKA must be tearing his hair out, thinking 'why on earth did I kick this one off'? Then again, whether we recognise it or not, climate change is the biggest thing in our lives and for some of the younger people it could very well be the thing that kills them. Yet, collectively we're still pissing around doing next to nothing and some are even at the point of denying it. Asking people to share, 'light hearted anecdotes about this mini heatwave' is akin to asking for some funny stories about people dying of COVID. The difference being, that this is far far more serious. We can remain silent. We could even close the thread. Sooner or later though the subject will bubble up again because it is so monumentally important.

@cantersaddick and @Garrymanilow you both make very valid points in your information regarding all topics. I’m not denying burning fossil fuels is good or healthy for the planet but do I think every time it goes over 28 degrees it’s for that reason no, do I think it will be end of the world no, do I believe cow farts also warm the planet no. So let’s agree to disagree otherwise we will go on forever.

Sometimes just enjoy the fact it’s sunny and warm rather than put a negative spin on it which unfortunately seems the norm nowadays. Thanks to everyone who didn’t call me stupid or other insults much appreciated takes the bigger and more intellectual person to not go down that route. Although the person who called me thick as Boxing Day turd that was pretty funny to be fair 😂.

Not sure what the problem is with discussing climate change? Having a discussion is not really putting a 'negative spin' on things.

You obviously don't seem worried by it and hopefully you're right. There are numerous people in the world who can't ignore the problems facing them regarding the climate.

Well methane is the second biggest contributing gas to the greenhouse effect which is directly driving up the temperature of the Earth, and the biggest contributor to methane emissions is livestock, but sure we'll let you wave the play the ultimate Denier's trump card of "agree to disagree"

Wouldn’t be nice if the intellectually superior could get their point across without personal insults though?

There are lots of opinions on this thread, and that's a good thing, but as someone that has literally experienced weather every day of my life, I like to think that I have a good handle on what's going on. Just saying.
Yeah, but I've been experiening the weather through this and thin, for 49 years mate. Even though the Upton Park and Shithouse Park years. There's nothing about the weather I don't know about. Especially seeing as I use a weather forecasting stone, which is very rarely, if ever, wrong -

I’m quite sure I’ve seen that sign. Did you take that picture in Suffolk?

This week has been a typical week in the life of a south east water customer, either we have had no water, or very low pressure.
We are already being told that, when we have water, we should only use it for essential purposes.
This follows on from a hose pipe ban last summer that went deep into the winter, and all signs are that another ban is just around the corner.
For this ‘service’ we pay almost £70 a month.
Before long I expect to see a tv ad with Ewan McGregor asking for donations to provide water supplies for West Kent.

I go by my own experience of things and also doing my research I choose not to believe someone standing in front of the TV with a posh voice pointing to a graph it takes more than that for me. So please stop sharing the graph it isn’t working.

In my life on this planet I feel the weather has been the same, some hot days some cold days and rainy days. I then took time to look at how many climate and weather surges cold and hot have happened over the centuries and it’s happened a lot.

Again if you want to believe Mr Scientist standing in front of your TV pointing to his graph then please feel free to continue that way of receiving information that’s your choice but I choose differently, this will be the final thing I post on the topic because clearly some of you can’t accept people are different and enjoy throwing words around like “stupid” and “ignorant” so best to walk away.

To the original post yes it is f**king hot 😂 enjoy the weather everyone.
I realise this has been said again and again, but you might not have heard it before, so here it is

"You're entitled to your own opinions. You're not entitled to your own facts"

    Hope this helps

Interesting though looking back over the thread, there are some  who are happily trying to put those who have an opposite opinion to right, but were happily bragging about driving gas guzzling cars for a bit of fun on the fuel shortages thread, but didn't understand the damage they do to the environment, or didn't care when it suits.

You can acknowledge the fact that global warming exists, but not actively do anything to help stop the effects you know

There are some fundamental issues here. Firstly London  is in the wrong place. If it had been in Applecross, Scotland then would have peaked at 14 degrees C last week. Can't blame the Romans, just blame the English.
Secondly cannot believe a thread about hot weather has got a few posters all riled up cause they cannot accept differing opinions. Happy there were a few funny posts in between. But blimey lighten up everyone 🙃

part of the hopeless south east water wankers as well. I live now in a rural place. I cant get on their priority list. Last year several times I was without water for weeks on end. They expected me at the time to be able to get to their water bottle station in west kingsdown... i don't have transport so couldn't get to it from my place near borough green. now i know in africa they have to walk miles to get some water and that is a disgrace but i actually pay, my latest bill of £156 over the last 3 months is out standing because i refuse to pay for a service that is not provided. that and i dont have 156 quid spare.

There's nothing wrong on being well read on a subject and acquiring knowledge. I never understand those who seem to see ignorance as a virtue.

I'm not aware of anyone on here claiming to be an expert but there's nothing wrong in being open to debate.

We have a perfect storm of a privatised monopoly that has prioritised profit, shareholder dividends and high executive salaries and bonuses. The South East being the most water stressed and driest part of the country. Climate change that is bringing wetter winters and drier springs and summers. Too many new houses without the infrastructure to cope with the extra demand. All new houses should be built with rainwater harvesting, water recycling so that grey water can be used for flushing toilets. Solar panels should be mandatory on all new houses. New houses need to be fit to cope with the problems that climate change causes.

Slash and burn of national industries by Conservatives led by Mrs T to cut public spending. This has led to a lack of investment in infrastructure and all done to increase dividends and the share price.
Arthur Scargill was derided as a Leninist Marxist ideologue , but when opposing pit closures he said,

”It’s not just pits we are defending but communities as well “

I'm confused, surely by closing all the coal mines, Thatcher was actually helping the fight against global warming much earlier than most, and trying to stop the root cause at source, instead of having to then build infrastructure to try and combat the effect? 😉

Thatcher , destroyed the NUM,and coal mining, then the “Dash for Gas” commenced.

And for some reason despite being a nuclear power we let all that knowledge drain away and now if we want a nuclear power station we have to beg a French company to build it for us. I mean i know its a stretch to say nuclear power is green but still.
