They expected me at the time to be able to get to their water bottle station in west kingsdown... i don't have transport so couldn't get to it from my place near borough green. now i know in africa they have to walk miles to get some water and that is a disgrace but i actually pay, my latest bill of £156 over the last 3 months is out standing because i refuse to pay for a service that is not provided. that and i dont have 156 quid spare. 

We have a perfect storm of a privatised monopoly that has prioritised profit, shareholder dividends and high executive salaries and bonuses. The South East being the most water stressed and driest part of the country. Climate change that is bringing wetter winters and drier springs and summers. Too many new houses without the infrastructure to cope with the extra demand. All new houses should be built with rainwater harvesting, water recycling so that grey water can be used for flushing toilets. Solar panels should be mandatory on all new houses. New houses need to be fit to cope with the problems that climate change causes.

Farting isn't as big a problem as belching, apparently. Here's a graph for you showing the main trends. The good news is that emissions from agricultural animals in the UK are falling. I suspect that this is probably more than counterbalanced by an increase in imports from abroad though. I'll let you figure that out, seeing as you're a fan of 'doing your own research'.

Works fine with mine . Got a battery as well so our bills are very manageable.

Don't need direct sunlight all the time for many modern solar panel units, and excess can be stored or sold back to the grid making bills cheaper

Funny you should say that as sheep methane output was discussed this very morning on Radio Four's farming program.  

There has been a 'portable accumulation chamber' trundling up and down the country these past three years measuring sheep methane.  They are researching how different breeds and sizes affect the output and how future breedings can reduce the problem.  Only a matter of time before we're all checking our super market lamb for the the 'low methane sheep' label.

When I was at uni (30+ years ago) my dissertation involved painting a silicon substrate with one heavy metal (no not that kind) paint on one side, a different paint on the other and baking it. It became a fuel cell. Always wondered how long it would take to get an electricity producing paint to market. Hopefully within next 10 years.

Perovskite solar paint seems to be a front runner but who knows what the breakthrough will be

This is a great point. For those that choose to ignore the overwhelming body of evidence on climate change there are still massive benefits of "green" improvements. Cleaner air, healthier lives, cleaner water both for drinking and swimming, more green spaces, more energy independence, less reliance on price gouging multinational corporations. There is no downside.

When I was at college in Croydon, we seemed to spend a lot of  our time in the pub up the top of the escalator in the Whitgift Centre.
When that shut for good, we went to the Ship Inn and often saw Duke McKenzie in there of a lunchtime in his post office uniform. Lovely humble guy.
He was world champion at the time, don't think boxing paid that great at the time for some of the lower weights.

I saw this really cool graphic recently. About how Queensland Aus have invested heavily in batteries both at a household level and as a state government investing in large scale energy  storage. This isn't about energy generation, it's the evening peak in energy usage that previously had to be met with gas due to solar not generating in the evenings but now due to investment in storage it can largely be met by energy storage despite no solar generation at that time. Amazing and shows what's possible.
