Climate change does not equal purely scorching days! Besides, it's May and still 23 degrees where I am at 6pm, that isn't normal either!

I don't understand the mindset at all. It's been roasting in May, but it's cloudy today so Climate Change must all be a load of nonsense. 😐

Oh dear Large addick don't go against the scary graphs and BBC man reading from the teleprompter and think for yourself how dare you and also the well educated scientists who also say cow farts are contributing to it as well. By the way do pig and sheep farts not count as they might feel left out? Can we get some graphs please for sheep and pig farts? 😆

This week has been a typical week in the life of a south east water customer, either we have had no water, or very low pressure.
We are already being told that, when we have water, we should only use it for essential purposes.
This follows on from a hose pipe ban last summer that went deep into the winter, and all signs are that another ban is just around the corner.
For this ‘service’ we pay almost £70 a month.
Before long I expect to see a tv ad with Ewan McGregor asking for donations to provide water supplies for West Kent.

part of the hopeless south east water wankers as well. I live now in a rural place. I cant get on their priority list. Last year several times I was without water for weeks on end. They expected me at the time to be able to get to their water bottle station in west kingsdown... i don't have transport so couldn't get to it from my place near borough green. now i know in africa they have to walk miles to get some water and that is a disgrace but i actually pay, my latest bill of £156 over the last 3 months is out standing because i refuse to pay for a service that is not provided. that and i dont have 156 quid spare.
We have a perfect storm of a privatised monopoly that has prioritised profit, shareholder dividends and high executive salaries and bonuses. The South East being the most water stressed and driest part of the country. Climate change that is bringing wetter winters and drier springs and summers. Too many new houses without the infrastructure to cope with the extra demand. All new houses should be built with rainwater harvesting, water recycling so that grey water can be used for flushing toilets. Solar panels should be mandatory on all new houses. New houses need to be fit to cope with the problems that climate change causes.
All new homes to have solar panels from 2028: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/czjw7klkjm2o

Farting isn't as big a problem as belching, apparently. Here's a graph for you showing the main trends. The good news is that emissions from agricultural animals in the UK are falling. I suspect that this is probably more than counterbalanced by an increase in imports from abroad though. I'll let you figure that out, seeing as you're a fan of 'doing your own research'.

Had an amazing meal on holiday at Pellegrini in Sibernik, Croatia. they must have heard about the climate crisis and decided to act decisively as the portion of lamb they brought out as the 'main course' was less than 1cm x 3 cm.

Was delicious and part of a 7 course licaly sourced tasting menu mind. But notably teeny

Read an interesting article yesterday about the how Australia is enthusiastically embracing solar and like the Norwegians just as enthusiastically exporting their fossil fuels elsewhere.

Well if anyone has the weather for it and the sheer volume of land for solar panels, it's the Aussies.
    Uk not so much.

40% (and growing) of properties have rooftop solar panels.

Compared to UK, which based on the road on which I live, can’t be much more than 5%

And will grow if forced in by Government's.
Doesn't mean we get enough sun year round though.

Works fine with mine . Got a battery as well so our bills are very manageable.

Don't need direct sunlight all the time for many modern solar panel units, and excess can be stored or sold back to the grid making bills cheaper

Funny you should say that as sheep methane output was discussed this very morning on Radio Four's farming program.

There has been a 'portable accumulation chamber' trundling up and down the country these past three years measuring sheep methane.  They are researching how different breeds and sizes affect the output and how future breedings can reduce the problem.  Only a matter of time before we're all checking our super market lamb for the the 'low methane sheep' label.

When I was at uni (30+ years ago) my dissertation involved painting a silicon substrate with one heavy metal (no not that kind) paint on one side, a different paint on the other and baking it. It became a fuel cell. Always wondered how long it would take to get an electricity producing paint to market. Hopefully within next 10 years.

Perovskite solar paint seems to be a front runner but who knows what the breakthrough will be

Was a decent chunk of your dissertation literally watching paint dry (scientifically)?

This is a great point. For those that choose to ignore the overwhelming body of evidence on climate change there are still massive benefits of "green" improvements. Cleaner air, healthier lives, cleaner water both for drinking and swimming, more green spaces, more energy independence, less reliance on price gouging multinational corporations. There is no downside.

When I was at college in Croydon, we seemed to spend a lot of  our time in the pub up the top of the escalator in the Whitgift Centre.
When that shut for good, we went to the Ship Inn and often saw Duke McKenzie in there of a lunchtime in his post office uniform. Lovely humble guy.
He was world champion at the time, don't think boxing paid that great at the time for some of the lower weights.

I saw this really cool graphic recently. About how Queensland Aus have invested heavily in batteries both at a household level and as a state government investing in large scale energy  storage. This isn't about energy generation, it's the evening peak in energy usage that previously had to be met with gas due to solar not generating in the evenings but now due to investment in storage it can largely be met by energy storage despite no solar generation at that time. Amazing and shows what's possible.

Edit, realised this is probably on the wrong thread but I'll leave it there for now as can't find the right one.

Michael Mann’s hockey stick. Data created to sustain a narrative in simple terms yet those who choose to question are told to “follow the science .” The University of East Anglia was also discredited for producing dodgy climate change information some years back in order to sustain the narrative.
