ELON MUSK - World's first Trillionaire

Sure I agree its best we dont do politics on here. Its not the place for it. But on a thread about Musk and full of reasons to dislike him - not least that hes responsible for an estimated 14m deaths worldwide by 2030 due to the cutting of USAID - just saying you like him isnt really enough to claim youve put out a contrary point of view. He doesnt have to have a reason but if he likes him enough to come on the thread and say it there must be one surely?Carter said:
I think what he is saying, and I'm happy to be proven wrong. Sometimes people just don't instill absolute abject hatred. Also, we don't always have to lay every single reason we like or dislike someone or something. I never liked Norman Lamont as his eyebrows freaked me out, couldn't tell you anything else about him.cantersaddick said:
I dont think anyone has said you cant post a contrary view. What I would challenge is whether you have actually posted your point of view. Beyond saying you like Musk and another individual you havent exactly stated why you like them or why others are wrong to dislike them. A bit of your reasoning might help.RodneyCharltonTrotta said:

Should be able to post a view contrary to the general consensus without being called weird for having a different point of view.
If, objectively I think for example Donald Trump has done something good, or sensible or that would make life better for me/my friends. I might not have a totally negative opinion of him, I'd probably not say it as its fashionable to hate trump/musk/farage/starmer and would just get piled on, called weird, called racist, transphobic, misogynistic delete as appropriate
Probably why it's fir the best we don't do politics on here
To take your example if Donald Trump had done something good, or sensible or that would make life better for you/your friends, you wouldnt just say "I like him" - you'd say "he did X which made my life better".3 -
Which is exactly what Yarvin, Thiel et Al wantWSS said:If the governments around the world don’t grab hold of tech hard we’re well on the way of Wall-E being a documentary.1 -
Agree with this. Everything has to be black and white these days, on the left and the right.Carter said:

If he cured cancer, it wouldn't be him, it would be "the scientists behind him, he did nothing oh and by the way he has killed 14 million people (
), he's worse than Hitler" etc etc.
This idea that he's some fascist Mr Bean who has done nothing, but somehow stumbled into becoming a trillionaire is such a weird view that people seem to push to help them come up with a narrative that he's never done anything right.
I think the guy is an absolutely bellend, but I think Starlink is incredibly cool, and he made electric cars look like something that someone other than weird virgins would drive.
Always reminds me of history essays. "Yes, but, so."
Nothing is black or white, everything is a shade of grey.

Yeah it's other people making it black and white when you say things like the bit in bold, which no one on this thread has even close to said. Plenty of people have pointed out he's been very good as a financier, showing a remarkable ability to get investors and governments to put cash into projects they wouldn't otherwise fund in a million years. Others have said he's had a great ability to build publicity around himself and his projects. That's not saying he's done nothing or he's never done anything right. In fact it's much more balanced than your post.Huskaris said:

However pointing out that he's a nepo baby who inherited a massive amount of cash which is what got him access to the places that made him able to leverage that finance, that the concepts and in some cases designs existed long before his finance put them into reality, pointing out that he unethically took control of Tesla, didn't make a profit for 20 years, that he is the largest recipient of government subsidies ever by a factor of 5, that he avoids tax, that he's grifting an IPO on a company operating annual losses of $4.2bn are also valid points thay show he didn't stumble into being a trillionaire but that he ruthlessly expoited his position at every stage but that it came at the cost of others.
Pointing out his funding of Trump and promotion of ICE to have more powers has done untold social damage in the US, pointing out what he did at DOGE was both a grift to prevent regulation and investigation of his companies and massively damaging to the US and the developing world including resulting in millions of deaths a large proportion of them children or pointing out his vision for the world is an authoritarian evil speaks of his character.
Pointing out the influence he has over governments and institutions (see changing the stock market rules) shows how dangerous having anyone that rich is for society and democracy.
Maybe what's black and white is your reading of other people's valid criticisms of a man.5 -

Not gonna get into this. Nonces like saville or any other type of nonce should be strung up as far as im concerned and even then that's letting those cunts off lightly.
To equate Trump with Saville is ludicrous.
If it ever turned out Trump had done anything like Saville then of course any positive views i had for Trump would vanish immediately and i'd want him strung up.
Out of respect to AFKA I'll leave the thread before I derail it by speaking to you exacly how I want to after your last couple of comments directed at me.

Did you notice how I managed to make all those points without mentioning his racism, facisim, nazi salutes, stirring up of hatred across the west, or the begging to be allowed onto pedophile Island.cantersaddick said:

Erm it's off topic but have you not followed anything about the Epstien files? Even with Trumps people redacting the worst bits of what has been released and not releasing a lot of the bits that implicate him - there is more than credible evidence he did quite a lot of things quite a bit worse than Saville.RodneyCharltonTrotta said:arny23394 said:

Trump is a felon, and *allegedly* a groomer, a rapist, and a paedophile, amongst other things.
Anyone admiring anything about him is a wrongun IMO8 -
I would politely suggest you take a bit of a look into it. If you feel as strongly about nonces as you say then you'll probably want to remove your support for him PDQ.RodneyCharltonTrotta said:

I admire some of his policies rather than his personality. You calling me a wrong un Sam?1 -
What of his policies are you in support of?
That will probably answer the question0 -

Fair enough like I said if there is any truth of any nonce allegations then yes it would entirely change my view of him.
I'll leave it there as this is not what the thread is about.0 -

Speaking of paedo allegation, Musk is in the Epstein Files asking twice for an invite to Epstein's island for his "wildest parties", and that was after Epstein's 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor.

I think it would be fair to say why are you even commenting if you are this ignorant on the topic? You're critical of other people's negativity towards someone where you admit yourself you're not at all up to date on what information has come out about him. There's a whole internet out there, do some reading.RodneyCharltonTrotta said:

Leave me out of this now fella. I've said a number of times I'm out and don't want to derail the thread. Move it on.
