  • Here's 25 minutes you won't get back, but tbf this bloke looks into every facet of Karlon Grant and whether he should sign or not.  (For Cardiff City not us).

    That phrase.

Christ, I hate that phrase. It is like something out of The Office.

Same with 'I imagine' or 'a top pick' and 'breakout season'.

Grant will be a "cheat code" at this level
Will he fit in with “Nathan Jones ball “ ?
Of course. That's why this signing is a "no brainer".

Not sure about this signing. Definitely ticks the Championship experience box but he’s not especially prolific and there’s a slight question mark over hamstring strength!
That said, he cost nothing in terms of a fee and he knows the club.
As always, you can only really judge when he’s played a few games - and when we've seen the club’s summer transfer plan as a whole. This is only one piece of the overall jigsaw.

Good luck KAG, I mean, KG.

I think it's worth noting that Grant is absolutely not injury prone. He had an injury last season but his availability record before then is exemplary, looks as though he made over 30 appearances every season since leaving us, most of which he made over 40 appearances.

    Needs a song.

    'Welcome home Karlan Grant,
    Soz about our little chant,
We know you're not really a rapist,
Now we think you're the greatest'

Good luck with getting that one going 😬

He went into his stats over the last couple of seasons which are ok (ish) - although not a prolific scorer.

The nagging doubt of course is the three injuries he's had in three seasons, especially the last one - a hamstring tear which required surgery.  Our hero wisely points out that Grants skill base is next to useless if he's sitting on the bench with a soft tissue injury that can't stand up to the rigours of Championship football,

He concludes by saying, sign him on a years contract with moderate wages that can be bumped up dependant on performance - that would minimise the risk to club whilst still incentifying the player.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by it all tbh.

PS.  I'm knocking on too and have just donated those valuable 25 minutes to you.  You owe me!

Why did they make him sign his contract in the dark?
Don't they want him to know what he's being paid?
Or trying to save money on the electric?
It is so he cannot see that he is signing one of Henry's dummy contract forms. If he is rubbish, we can throw him out, as no valid contract. If a success, we can say the dog ate his form, so could he please re-sign.

For once I got one of those "I'll ask my x club supporting mates"

One of my friends at work is a Baggies fan, and I've never heard such an underwhelming review.

The issue is, the lad who told me is very religious and has a rep at work for being overly kind, so wouldn't have said anything for dramatic impact, he really wasn't fond of him.

He basically told me, that he's absolutely useless, a waste of wages, and him and every West Brom fan he knows is delighted he's off the wage book being one of their big earners.

Said he was a complete one trick on the wing, could only ever knock it round someone, after all the injuries he has genuinely lost a yard of pace not to be cliché (his words). Says he is wasteful infront of goal on the rare chances he gets, surprised he got a championship move, and said if everything aligns, he plays his very best and the other teams aren't on it and he plays a full 46 (unlikely as he's too unfit) then and only then may he get high single digit goals. Said no chance he can play out wide for us, as he's too slow, and a complete turn around and pass back to midfield merchant.

Also said he is an absolute knobhead and a thoroughly dislikable bloke.

I don't think I have ever heard a more harsh review on a player when I have asked someone. 😂

    Will certainly be interesting.

Yes, really knows his stuff. Isn't one of those fans who said to me when he found out I was a Charlton fan "oh I remember yous when you were in the prem" was actually discussing our current players and recent games.

It's just concerning cause he's genuinely a really nice polite lad and he well went into one.

At the end of the day, fans can be wrong, and sometimes they'll say x player is brilliant and he's not, or x player is terrible and he's not. It either clicks or it doesn't.

My view of Grant is, his best years are probably behind him. He's a month and a bit shy from 29. The recent injuries are concerning, as he is a player who relies on pace, and that's what earned him all his transfers probably, the raw potential. You have to wonder if will see him decline now with his raw talent fading and coming back from a serious injury.

I never saw Grant as a overly intelligent striker personally, just one with quick feet and good pace. He now has a lot of Championship appearances under his belt though, and more than a handful of prem.

I think it's going to be somewhere in between my friends review and the positive predictions on here. I think he will be a steady player who won't particularly have great games, but not too many bad either.

One thing that is curious, is he turned down West Brom who you would assume would have offered a similar wage, so it seems he has come here to play and prove himself.

This made me wonder what the Baggies on Twatter were saying when he left. Seems most of them hold him in positive regard

I think a lot of negative reviews from Baggies fans would be markedly different if they hadn’t paid £15m for an average Championship striker. Price tags and wages massively impact opinions.

This what most of their Reddit fan comments have been, he failed in the sense of his fee, wage and position but agree that as a free signing for a side that'll play him wide left and like a workhorse, he's a decent bit of business.
