Millenic Alli joins on a four year deal

Looks like another option when we need to give TC a break and some rotation. Which is very welcome.
Four years is a bit long; paying a pacey winger until he's 30 comes with risks, but maybe that was what was needed to get it over the line.0 -
At last … we have a player who can do a backflip 🤸♂️Bedsaddick said:7 -
Is this guy any better than Fevrier?0

For a start he's much quickerpaulsturgess said:Is this guy any better than Fevrier?0 -
Looks two footed and able to score from acute angles, also a couple of headers, so should prove to be useful...Bedsaddick said:1 -
I don't believe all of this, I'll wait until the Plymouth Herald gives their opinion.fenaddick said:2 -
My Pompey season ticket mate says: ‘on his day he is great but he’s inconsistent’.So sounds like every single winger we could realistically sign.I thought he looked useful when I saw him play for Pompey last season but then again he lacks end product.Think £1.5m sounds very steep but then again fees these days are just ridiculous, so what do I know!2
-
I know nothing about him, some 'eye witness' reports look promising. I hope he turns out to be an inspired signing. Welcome Millenic2

He is pretty much TC on the right wing. Dangerous taking defenders off the dribble but crap end product1

Can he play wing back?0

He played there a lot for Luton actually, can't have helped Bell's hamstring issues!SantaClaus said:Can he play wing back?0 -
I don't see Nathan Jones tolerating anything less than a player that gives everything they have whilst on the pitch.3

An ok signing, but hard to get excited by what feels like a squad signing, rather than a step change real injection of quality.
I agree that the 4 year contract seems generous, on someone who is a squad player/punt rather than someone with a much higher chance of being a Championship regular for 4 years. Especially as our track record when it comes to signing attacking players on long contracts hasn't been great.3 -
Grant and TC on the left. This fella on the right is going to shit up a lot of defences, if we can just buy some central midfield couod be dangerousBostonaddick said:He is pretty much TC on the right wing. Dangerous taking defenders off the dribble but crap end product2 -
Welcome to The Valley Millenic.2

It’s going to be a tough season- scrapping for every point.Obv no money for NJ after last year’ buying yielded no stars.2
-
Dunno why but I’m not feeling this transfer. Was expecting an up shift in quality and spend after we managed to stay up and we are just not investing the required quality to stay out of trouble IMO.2

Obviously. Despite the window being open for another monthValiantphil said:It’s going to be a tough season- scrapping for every point.Obv no money for NJ after last year’ buying yielded no stars.2 -
Out of interest would this change if we spent a Kelman/Apter type fee on a midfielder? Because Alli is essentially Knibbs when it comes to fees and there was a lot of positivity thereDamoNorthStand said:Dunno why but I’m not feeling this transfer. This is also my concern. Karlan aside, we don't appear to have improved our quality going forwards or in the middle of the pitch. I thought we'd get a bigger injection.DamoNorthStand said:Dunno why but I’m not feeling this transfer. As I was expecting an uptick in quality and investment and taking into account we have spent little relatively in this window - I would want to spend more than Apter money on our CMs as they are so important.fenaddick said:

likewise if Alli is Knibbs money, I’m not sure that is enough. Also Knibbs had 15 odd goals the season before which is still something I think we can hold on to. I am not seeing the goal contributions from Alli2 -
I'm still holding out hope we might break our transfer record for the right CM. Surely the budget is there to drop £5m on the right player?DamoNorthStand said:

The window hasn’t closed yet. How do you know we’ve finished spending?Chunes said:

Welcome Alli - type of player we desperately needed and i'm not concerned that he's another Luton / Chapple or NJ connected player - in fact that's a bonus to me - surely if you've worked with somebody previously, you have a much better idea of what they can and can't do than if you've just scouted them / had them recommended. If we've ditched the wing back thing and Apter is gonna be in the picture as well, then we might just be down to needing a couple of quality midfielders and a centre forward.3

Have we really started spending? I say that tongue in cheek as in comparative terms to the quality required.TheHerminator said:

It might not be anything to do with budget maybe the players we want don’t want to join us ? You can’t force a player to joinTheHerminator said:

I’m wondering if we’re holding some of the budget back did January in a way we didn’t do last season0

Nail on head.sirjohnhumphrey said:Wide players/wingers at this level are all inconsistent. That’s why they play at this level. Any wide men that can produce quality every game is not going to be found at Championship level. That’s the intriguing thing about them is that they can have a blinder one week and an absolute mare the next game.Lloyd Sam, Kyle Reid, Blackett Taylor all capable of the outrageous and all capable of dross.
So reviews of him will be very similar - capable but inconsistent. Let’s hope for more of the former than the latter.
Has there ever been more than a handful of wingers in the history of the game that are consistently good every single game?
The only Charlton player that was consistently good and played wideish was Graham Stuart and he wasn't a winger.4
