Charlton players that received dog’s abuse from pretty much everyone…

Considering the tangential discussion on the transfer thread as to whether or not TC gets/has got “Dog’s Abuse” from the Valley faithful, it got me thinking:
Which Charlton players have our fan base really given it to? I mean where pretty much the whole stadium is slaughtering them.
Was it justified? Did they leave soon after? Did you feel sorry for them?
Just wondering.

I remember Kim Grant getting loads of abuse and Mark Aizlewood....i think our fan base is quite good really considering some of the shite we've had to put up with.1

I honestly feel so bad for players that do I can’t imagine how soul destroying it must be. None of them go out before a game and purposely try and play crap. They’re usually not good enough and low on confidence, should blame the manager for picking them.4 -

Slightly separate but Michael Appleton's last game in charge had about the most toxic atmosphere I've ever witnessed at The Valley. He got both barrels from everyone9 -

Simon Francis was absolutely shredded by the fans. So much so that a player capable of playing 136 Premier League games looked like he couldn't hack it at National League level. Alan McCormack also wasn't a popular chap. I remember Dave Mooney and Darren Ambrose not getting much love from the fans as well1

My Brothers and me used to shout out huge abuse to Kevin Smith, from the back of the East Terrace. I don't think we were alone but the nearest other fans were over 50 yards away.1

Kim Grant and David Mooney for their failings received some really nasty undeserved sustained abuse.
Funny how some players get away with being shit and others don't - it's part of pack mentality picking on the weak/more sensitive really. Especially in the case of Francis - and look what he went on to do.2 -

He used to attend games quite regularly, I don't know if that is still the case.

Hasselbaink came on as sub at Anfield in our last game in the Premier League.He was met with the away end singing "You're just a fat Eddie Murphy". I'll take that as abuse.6

For some younger fans, using the term horrendous abuse, two scenarios from back in the day
Peter Shaw - The Covered End during the first half of a game sang We all agree, Peter Shaw is a wanker.
Kim Grant - We were one down to a poor Notts County team, when Grant missed an absolute sitter in front of the CE, just before half time. The fans in unison chanted OFF OFF OFF. I saw tears in Grant's eyes. We won the match 5-1.4 -

I'm convinced that our fans destroyed him. He was our best player for the first few games of the season. While he'd only scored one goal at the time, he was either getting assists or played a part in the goals we were scoring.follett said:Simon Makienok
However, this wasn't enough for our fans and they started heckling him for not scoring enough himself. His performances noticeably dropped after that, causing the abuse to get worse, and he was never the same player.
At one away game I was sat behind two people who were laying into him before we had even kicked off. It only got worse throughout the match. At one point, to take the piss out of them, I started berating Makienok (who was by the half way line) for a defensive error made just outside our box. They didn't twig that I was mocking them and also blamed Makienok.
I don't recall him getting much abuse, but he's comfortably the worst keeper I have ever seen play for us (I'd take Thuram-Ulien over him any day). He was a great shot-stopper, but could never catch the ball.sam3110 said:Nicky Weaver, I think just before Pardew was fired?0 -
The first player I remember getting dogs abuse was Terry Bullivant back in the early eighties.There’s always at least one player who is unfairly ( and fairly sometimes) targeted and it feels like a Charlton thing but I suspect it’s the same at every club ,0

I don't remember Makienok getting abuse as such but there was a collective groan whenever he lost a header. People assumed that because of his height he would win everything in the air but that wasn't really his game.3

Simon Church got it a bit. David Mooney has been mentioned before...always thought it was harsh as he did try, just wasn't good enough. I also remember Lisbie being sarcastically clapped when he got substituted. He sought of paused as he was running off the pitch as he realised what was happening... wasn't nice at all.1
