Kishishev was a very important player for us. If you go back to a lot of our games, Kish was key in a good number of goals. I thought it was incredible people couldn't see it. Fortunately, Curbs could.

Absolutely horrendous abuse !!! what a man he rose above it gave 100% & won over the majority of the abusers. Not the most gifted of players but gave everything.
Remember him getting a chorus from the covered end where they all sang" we all agree Peter Shaw is a wanker" but as you say he rose above it and forged a good partnership with Les Berry that got us promoted in 81.

Kish at right back was aptly summed up by Martin Tyler away at Derby "the hapless Kishishev"!

I don’t remember Kish getting abuse but he was a frustrating player at times. His ability didn’t match his footballing intelligence. He ended up being quite the fan favourite, especially after Curbs moved him into midfield.
I maintain that Kish was a really poor right back. He went on to be a very intelligent modern midfielder but he was very frustrating to watch at RB from my perspective
He was a poor right back.  Didn’t have the discipline for it.  Weirdly , he did have it when he played as a “6”
  • Hasselbaink came on as sub at Anfield in our last game in the Premier League.
He was met with the away end singing "You're just a fat Eddie Murphy".  I'll take that as abuse.
If they meant Nutty Professor Eddie Murphy, that really is abuse!
  • To nickname a player Sponge Foot takes some coming back from!

With Carl, there was a split. Some fans really appreciated what he brought to the team and others didn't and quite a few of them were pretty vocal about. They are the ones I always had an issue with.

The T-shirts with 'I saw Leaburn score' were not complimentary.

"He's fat, he's round his arse drags on the ground, Ralphie Milne, Ralphie Milne"
Amazingly he went on to be signed by Alex Ferguson for Man U.

The problem is, everybody is welcome, of course, to attend football matches. The more the merrier and that includes those that don't really undertsand it. The problem I have is the ones that can't shut up. It doesn't do anything than massage their own egos and can affect performances. It was interesting that Superclive had Carl Leaburn in his best Charlton team even if he played hardly any games with him. He knew what he brought to the team and how he complimented his own game.
